Amazon’s current Xbox app integration adds another option on selected Fire TV devices, but that later compatibility should not be confused with the original 2022 recommendations.
What “compatible with Fire TV” means

Do not treat “wireless” as proof of compatibility. Some wireless controllers use a proprietary 2.4 GHz USB receiver rather than Bluetooth. A Fire TV Stick may not offer a convenient way to connect that receiver; a compatible USB/OTG arrangement may be needed. Check the exact model’s manual for its Bluetooth gamepad mode before buying.

Xbox Wireless Controller

Amazon also names DualSense and DualShock 4 as compatible with the Xbox app on selected Fire TV devices. Existing owners may be able to reuse them, but do not assume PlayStation-specific features—such as DualSense adaptive triggers or haptics, or touchpad behavior—will be available in Fire TV apps. Check Sony’s DualSense page or Sony’s DualShock 4 page for product details; used or refurbished DualShock 4 availability may vary.
Xbox Adaptive Controller
Amazon lists the Xbox Adaptive Controller for the Xbox-on-Fire-TV experience. It is an accessibility platform that can connect with external switches and devices, rather than a conventional handheld gamepad. Third-party controllers: verify the model, not just the brand
GameSir T4 Pro and G4 Pro are stronger candidates from the old list than its generic marketplace entries, but “GameSir” alone does not establish compatibility. Confirm the exact model, revision, Bluetooth pairing mode, and Fire TV behavior. GameSir’s official site is gamesir.hk; use the exact product page and manual rather than assuming all models share a connection method.
For retro games, some 8BitDo models may appeal because of compact or Nintendo-inspired layouts. A 2022 comparison article identifies the SN30 Pro and SN30 Pro+ as multi-platform Bluetooth options, but that does not establish official support for every Fire TV model or game. Check the exact controller’s modes and compatibility at 8BitDo’s official site.
For generic products such as ZD-O, Zerone T3, Sahara Micro, or Evolved Dimensions, require an exact model number and a manual that explicitly confirms Bluetooth gamepad operation. A listing that merely says “wireless,” “Android compatible,” or “works with smart TV” is not enough.

Pair a Bluetooth controller with Fire TV
- Put the controller in Bluetooth pairing mode. Its LED usually flashes, but follow the model’s manual because button combinations differ.
- On Fire TV, open Settings.
- Select Controllers & Bluetooth Devices.
- Select Game Controllers.
- Select Add New Game Controller.
- Choose the controller when it appears. Amazon’s pairing instructions are at Pair a game controller with your Fire TV.
If pairing or gameplay fails
The controller does not appear
- Charge it or replace its batteries.
- Disconnect it from a phone, console, or computer; many controllers reconnect to the last device automatically.
- Confirm it is in Bluetooth pairing mode, not a 2.4 GHz receiver or console-specific mode.
- Remove an old controller entry from Fire TV if one is present, then try pairing again.
- Restart Fire TV and the controller, then repeat the pairing steps.
- Check the exact model’s manual for Bluetooth gamepad support.
It pairs, but the game ignores it
Pairing only proves Fire TV can see the controller; it does not prove the game supports gamepad input. Test a game known to support controllers. If input remains incomplete, the app may support only certain buttons, expect a different input mode, or handle Home and Back through Fire TV rather than the game. Amazon’s input documentation explains that apps handle controller events.
Controls work, but wireless play feels laggy
First test a local game, if available, to separate controller connection issues from cloud-streaming delay. Move the controller closer to Fire TV and replace weak batteries. Cloud gaming also depends on network quality, so changing controllers will not necessarily fix internet-related lag. A USB receiver is not automatically a better option if your Fire TV setup cannot conveniently accept it.
What changes for Xbox cloud gaming
Amazon announced Xbox app support on selected Fire TV devices, including Fire TV Stick 4K Max (1st generation), Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2023), Fire TV Stick 4K (2023), and Fire TV Cube (3rd generation). Amazon’s announcement says the Xbox app experience requires Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, a supported device, and a compatible Bluetooth controller. This is a later, service-specific compatibility path—not evidence that those controllers work perfectly in every native Fire TV game, or that every Fire TV model can run the Xbox app. Check the current app and device requirements before subscribing or buying hardware.
Why the old Fire TV controller lists need caution
The 2022 roundup includes a wrong product count, vague model names, receiver-based wireless features alongside Bluetooth claims, and contradictory or discontinued entries. Its descriptions also do not document a test method or identify which Fire TV models and games were checked.
