Pick Split Fiction for a two-person adventure with contrasting worlds
Split Fiction is the clearest fit if both players want to be central to the story and to play a game designed exclusively for co-op. EA describes its premise and co-op on the official Split Fiction page. The PlayStation listing specifies cross-play among supported platforms, a March 6, 2025 release, and the two-controller requirement for local PS5 play: Split Fiction – PS5 Games.
Pick It Takes Two for a lighter relationship story
Cody and May’s relationship is the frame for an adventure built explicitly for a pair, whether they play together on one screen or online. Electronic Arts describes it as “a crazy journey built purely for two in couch co-op or online through Friend’s Pass*.” Its official page lists PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch: It Takes Two.

Pick Unravel Two for gentler local co-op
The two Yarnys’ friendship and mutual support make this a quieter alternative. It allows solo play as well as local co-op. PlayStation lists the PS4 edition and notes PS5 backward compatibility, with possible feature differences: Unravel Two.
Can you play together if only one person owns the game?
Split Fiction and It Takes Two offer Friend’s Pass options for inviting a co-op partner, subject to supported platforms and account requirements. For each game, the owner needs the full game for the partner to access the full co-op adventure. Check the game’s current platform-specific instructions before arranging a session, because availability and requirements can vary.
