There is no single list of games guaranteed to run well on every “bad computer”: an older laptop with integrated graphics can differ sharply from another with the same age or price. Start with the kinds of games you enjoy, then compare your PC’s CPU, graphics, memory, operating system, and free storage with the current requirements on each game’s store listing.

Relaxed games for slower-paced play

Stardew Valley

For farming, exploration, and a relaxed pace, Stardew Valley is a sensible place to start. PC Gamer describes its simple graphics as laptop-friendly and notes that co-op is officially supported. That is useful guidance, not a promise that it will run on every older PC; check the current listing against your hardware before buying or downloading.

Minecraft

Minecraft is described by PC Gamer as not especially demanding and likely to run on many laptops. “Likely” matters: the edition, version, settings, and particular computer all affect compatibility. PC Gamer also notes that PC players get the latest updates and mod support. Check the requirements for the version you intend to play rather than assuming every laptop will handle it.

Choose by genre and controls

A modest computer does not automatically mean giving up your preferred style of game. Slower, lighter games are often a practical starting point, but the right choice also depends on how you want to play.

What you want to play Examples or discovery leads What to consider
Strategy and card games PC Gamer’s low-spec guide covers strategy and cards. Turn-based or slower play can be a good fit if you prefer less demanding controls and a relaxed pace.
Puzzles and adventures Baba Is You appears in Steam’s community-curated Low Spec Library. Check the current store requirements; curator inclusion is a discovery lead, not a compatibility certification.
Platformers and action Celeste appears in Steam’s community-curated Low Spec Library. Consider whether keyboard or controller controls suit you, and check the listing for your system.
Relaxed farming and exploration Stardew Valley PC Gamer highlights its simple graphics and officially supported co-op; verify requirements for your PC.
Building and exploration Minecraft PC Gamer says it is likely to run on many laptops, but version and settings matter.

These examples are starting points, not performance rankings. The available sources do not establish comparable frame-rate results across specific computers, so no title here should be treated as the “fastest” without testing on your hardware.

Check a game before installing or buying

Steam lists system requirements on each game’s Store page. Compare the exact listing for the edition you want with your computer’s specifications. Steam warns that systems at or just below the stated requirements may have trouble launching a game.

  1. Confirm the operating system. Check the required OS and whether the listing specifies 32-bit or 64-bit support.
  2. Compare the core hardware. Check the minimum CPU, graphics hardware, RAM, and storage space against your PC.
  3. Check graphics compatibility. If the game specifies a DirectX version or shader requirement, confirm that your graphics chip supports it. Meeting a CPU or memory requirement alone does not establish graphics compatibility.
  4. Look for relevant user reports. When official requirements are vague, recent reports from players with the same integrated GPU or laptop generation can add context. They are not a substitute for the official requirements.
  5. Consider the controls and play setup. A mouse can help with some games; others may be more comfortable with a controller or keyboard. Check the control options before choosing.
  6. Verify current availability and cost. Store listings, prices, and system requirements can change, and availability may vary by region. Use a legitimate current listing for the version you want.

What to try if a game struggles on integrated graphics

For integrated graphics, Steam Support recommends trying low shader detail and windowed mode where those options are available. These are troubleshooting adjustments, not a guarantee: they cannot make unsupported hardware compatible, and a computer at or below the game’s requirements may still have trouble launching it.

  • Lower shader detail in the game’s graphics settings if the option exists.
  • Try windowed mode if available.
  • If the game still will not launch or play acceptably, revisit its OS, CPU, GPU, RAM, and storage requirements rather than assuming another setting will fix the mismatch.

Why “low-spec” labels are only a starting point

“Low-end PC” is not a precise hardware category. Two older computers can have very different CPUs, graphics chips, memory, and operating-system support. Even low-spec game lists may include titles with requirements that call for a dedicated GPU, so a curator label is not proof that a game will work on an integrated GPU. Treat community lists as ways to discover candidates, then check the game’s own current requirements.

PC Gamer’s guide was last updated April 3, 2026, and offers editorial recommendations rather than controlled testing across a standard set of machines. Steam’s performance guidance addresses troubleshooting, not guaranteed compatibility. Requirements, patches, OS support, prices, and storefront availability can change, so rely on the current listing for the exact game and version you plan to play.
