Tormented Souls: for classic survival-horror mechanics
Tormented Souls is a fixed-perspective action-adventure horror game. Its Steam store description lists exploration, resource use, item combination, puzzles, and combat, and says it draws inspiration from Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Alone in the Dark. That makes it the more direct recommendation if you want the measured exploration and survival-horror framework associated with the older games.
The listing gives its release date as 26 August 2021. It establishes the game’s stated inspirations and mechanics, not that it duplicates Silent Hill 2’s characters, story, or particular brand of psychological unease.
#1 Best Overall
- Fully Remade to terrify modern audiences
- KONAMI's intense psychological horror masterpiece SILENT HILL 2 is made exclusively for PlayStation 5
- The main protagonist James Sunderland searches for clues in the namesake town, after receiving a mysterious letter from his wife Mary… who has long been dead
- Experience the eerie monsters and other manifestations of James' consciousness reworked after 20 years
- Made with state-of-the-art technology to play on modern entertainment systems in 4K
The Medium: for psychological horror and dual-reality puzzles
The Medium is a third-person psychological horror game centered on a dark mystery. Its official site describes gameplay in which the protagonist explores the real and spirit worlds at the same time, with puzzles that span both. That premise makes it the better fit if what you want most is surreal atmosphere and puzzles tied to a fractured sense of reality.
The official site also describes the game’s distinctive visual style and soundtrack. Its different premise and gameplay focus make it an alternative for a particular mood, not a mechanical equivalent to Silent Hill 2.

How the games compare
| Game | Best for | What the official description establishes | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tormented Souls | Classic survival-horror exploration and systems | Fixed-perspective gameplay, exploration, resource use, item combination, puzzles, and combat; the Steam description names Silent Hill as an inspiration. Steam listing | Shared genre influences do not mean it tells the same story or produces the same emotional effect. |
| The Medium | Psychological horror and surreal puzzles | Third-person psychological horror, a dark mystery, and exploration and puzzles spanning real and spirit worlds. Official site | Its defining hook is dual-reality gameplay, rather than a direct recreation of Silent Hill 2’s structure. |
