If you like Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO for its large-scale arena battles, the closest match is the earlier Budokai Tenkaichi series: Sparking! ZERO continues that lineage. For a different kind of Dragon Ball combat, try Dragon Ball FighterZ; for customization and ongoing Dragon Ball content, consider Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2. Anime-fighting fans open to another franchise can also look at Naruto X Boruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections.
Which games are closest to Sparking! ZERO?
Budokai Tenkaichi: the closest lineage match
Sparking! ZERO continues the Budokai Tenkaichi series, so earlier games in that series are the most direct starting point if you want the same franchise lineage and arena-brawler tradition. Bandai Namco describes Sparking! ZERO as an arena brawler built around battles in arenas that react to combat. See Bandai Namco’s description of Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO.
Availability depends on the particular older game and your platform; check the edition and store listing before buying. Sparking! ZERO launched in October 2024 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. Bandai Namco later announced versions for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, so check the current listing for your console. Read Bandai Namco’s announcement of the Nintendo Switch versions.
Which Dragon Ball game should you choose for a different style?
| Game | Combat format or emphasis | Best fit if you want |
|---|---|---|
| Budokai Tenkaichi series | Closest franchise lineage; Sparking! ZERO is described by Bandai Namco as an arena brawler. | A direct connection to the series Sparking! ZERO continues. |
| Dragon Ball FighterZ | 2D fighting game with aerial combos, according to Bandai Namco. | A more traditional 2D fighting format rather than an arena brawler. |
| Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 | Character customization and continuing Dragon Ball content, as described on Bandai Namco’s current page. | Building a customized character and engaging with ongoing game content. |
Dragon Ball FighterZ: choose it for 2D fighting
Dragon Ball FighterZ keeps the Dragon Ball setting but changes the format. Bandai Namco describes it as a 2D fighting game and highlights aerial combos. Choose it if that style appeals to you; it is not a mechanical substitute for Sparking! ZERO’s arena-brawler format. Explore Dragon Ball FighterZ on Bandai Namco’s site.

Naruto X Boruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections is an option for players who want to move beyond Dragon Ball while staying with anime-based fighting games. The available official information establishes the game and its platform editions, but does not establish that its mechanics closely match Sparking! ZERO. Treat it as a cross-franchise alternative, not a like-for-like arena-brawler pick. Check the official store’s platform editions.
