There is no single best gaming laptop for every buyer in 2026. For a compact option, start with the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14; for a premium thin-and-light, consider the Razer Blade 16; for a large desktop replacement, the Asus ROG Strix Scar 18 or Razer Blade 18; and for lower-cost 1080p gaming, compare the MSI Katana 15 HX and Asus TUF Gaming A16. These are category picks from separate reviews, not a shared head-to-head ranking. Compare the exact configuration and current local price before choosing.

Best gaming laptops in 2026, ranked by buyer type

The shortlist below reflects what each cited publication recommends or tests, rather than a universal ranking. Prices are review-era figures, not live quotes, and configurations can differ by country and retailer.

Buyer type Laptop What stands out What to weigh
Compact gaming Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 (2026) 14-inch format; Tom’s Guide’s September roundup describes an OLED panel at 2880×1800 and 120Hz, with configurations up to RTX 5080 in the model line it covered. The October review’s RTX 5070 Ti unit is a different configuration. Tom’s Guide reports loud fans under load and 8 hours 32 minutes in its battery test.
Premium thin-and-light Razer Blade 16 (2026) Tom’s Guide describes a 16-inch 2.5K OLED panel at 240Hz and tested an RTX 5090 configuration. TechRadar describes a stock RTX 5070 Ti/1TB configuration, with RTX 5080 and memory upgrades available. Tom’s Guide flags heat and fan noise under pressure. Its stated starting-to-top configuration range is $2,399–$5,599.
Large premium desktop replacement Asus ROG Strix Scar 18 (2026) GamesRadar reports RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 options and an 18-inch 4K 240Hz Mini LED display. Its tested RTX 5090 configuration had 64GB RAM and 4TB storage. GamesRadar lists configurations at $4,299.99–$5,299.99 in the US and £4,199.99–£5,499.99 in the UK. Its size and cost make it a specialist choice rather than a travel-first pick.
Budget 1080p gaming MSI Katana 15 HX Tom’s Hardware calls its tested RTX 5050/14th Gen Intel Core i7 HX configuration a truly budget model and reports solid 1080p performance in its test suite. The review’s $999.99 price is for the configuration it tested, not a current offer. Tom’s Hardware reports slotted RAM and a replaceable SSD.
Balanced lower-cost alternative Asus TUF Gaming A16 (2026) PC Gamer lists a Ryzen 7 260, RTX 5050 8GB, 16GB DDR5, 1TB storage and a 16.1-inch 1920×1200 165Hz screen for its UK review configuration. PC Gamer gives a UK review price of £1,260. Its US configuration differs: 512GB SSD, higher display resolution and a $1,550 review price. The reviewer cautions that 16GB RAM and an RTX 5050 may be less appealing for buyers seeking a long-lived system.
Large high-refresh alternative Razer Blade 18 (2026) Tom’s Hardware names it its best gaming laptop. Its dual-mode 18-inch panel supports 3840×2400 at 240Hz or 1920×1200 at 440Hz; the cited model weighs 7.06 pounds. Tom’s Hardware gives a $3,999.99 starting price and a $5,399.99 price for its tested configuration. The review praises performance, build, display versatility and ports, while noting heat and a higher price than the prior year.

Sources for these picks: Tom’s Guide’s September 7 roundup and October 1 G14 review; Tom’s Hardware’s September 29 guide; PC Gamer’s September 30 guide and 2026 TUF A16 review; GamesRadar+’s 2026 Scar 18 review; and TechRadar’s 2026 Blade 16 review. Their recommendations reflect different tested pools and criteria.

Which one fits your kind of gaming?

Choose the G14 if carrying the laptop matters

The G14 is the compact pick in this group, but its performance and behavior depend on the exact configuration. Tom’s Guide’s October 1, 2026 review tested an RTX 5070 Ti model and reported 44 fps in Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p RT Ultra and 49 fps in Black Myth: Wukong at 1080p Cinematic. Those results belong to that review unit and its test setup; they should not be assigned to every G14 or confused with the roundup’s higher RTX 5080 option. The reviewer also recorded loud fans under load and 8:32 in its battery test, which is a test result, not a general-use battery-life guarantee.

#1 Best Overall
HP Victus 15.6" Full HD 144Hz Gaming Laptop, Intel Core i5-12450H, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050,16GB RAM, 512GB PCIe SSD, Wi-Fi 6, Backlit Keyboard,Windows 11 Pro, Performance Blue

  • Boasts a vibrant 15.6" FHD IPS Micro-Edge Anti-Glare 144Hz Display for immersive gaming experiences.

Choose the Blade 16 for a premium 16-inch OLED format

The Blade 16 is the premium thin-and-light recommendation, but “Blade 16 (2026)” does not identify one fixed specification. Tom’s Guide’s RTX 5090 test reported 65 fps in Cyberpunk 2077, 58 fps in Black Myth: Wukong and 182 fps in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, all at 1080p, max settings, with DLSS off. These are that publication’s results for its tested configuration, not expected frame rates for the RTX 5070 Ti stock configuration described by TechRadar. Check the SKU’s GPU, memory, storage and display, and consider the reported heat and fan noise before prioritizing slimness.

Choose an 18-inch model for screen space and a desk-first setup

The Scar 18 and Blade 18 both target buyers willing to carry a large system for a high-end gaming setup. The Scar 18 review covers RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 configurations and a 4K 240Hz Mini LED screen. The Blade 18 offers a different display trade-off: its cited dual-mode panel runs either 4K-class resolution at 240Hz or 1920×1200 at 440Hz. Its 7.06-pound weight and review-era pricing make it less suited to frequent travel. Treat these as distinct configurations and display approaches, not as evidence that one is categorically faster.

Choose between the Katana 15 HX and TUF A16 on the exact deal

The Katana 15 HX has the clearest budget-oriented review positioning here. Tom’s Hardware’s tested RTX 5050 configuration, priced at $999.99 in that review, produced 91 fps in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, 30 fps in Cyberpunk 2077, 65 fps in Red Dead Redemption 2, 80 fps in Far Cry 6 and 76 fps in Borderlands 3 at 1080p. These are results from its review suite, not guarantees for other games, settings or SKUs.

The TUF A16 is PC Gamer’s well-rounded alternative, but its regional review configurations differ in storage and display resolution as well as price. The listed 16GB RAM and RTX 5050 may suit a lower-cost system today, while the reviewer’s longevity caveat matters if you expect to keep the laptop for years. Compare the exact US or UK model on offer rather than assuming a specification from one region applies elsewhere.

How to compare gaming laptops fairly

Start with the exact SKU, not the family name

Before comparing prices or performance, confirm the model year and retailer SKU. Within a single family, GPU tier, memory, storage and display can change. The G14 roundup’s RTX 5080 option and the later RTX 5070 Ti review unit illustrate why a model name alone is not enough. The same issue applies to the Blade 16 and the regionally different TUF A16 configurations.

Read benchmark figures in context

Frame rates from different publications are not a head-to-head test. A useful comparison needs the game and version, resolution, graphics preset, upscaling or frame-generation setting, power mode and GPU implementation to align. For example, the Blade 16 results above were measured at 1080p, max settings and DLSS off, while the G14 results use the review’s stated 1080p settings and the Katana results are 1080p figures from Tom’s Hardware’s suite. Do not rank those numbers against one another as if one lab tested all three under identical conditions.

Rank #4
ASUS V16 16" WUXGA 144Hz Gaming Laptop, Intel® Core™ 7 240H, RTX™ 5070, 16GB DDR5 RAM, 1TB SSD, V3607VP-DS74, Matte Black

Check the screen, cooling and carrying weight together

Match the display to how you play: panel size, resolution, refresh rate and panel type all matter, and a dual-mode panel may require a resolution change to reach its highest refresh rate. Also weigh portability against cooling and noise. The cited Blade 18 is 7.06 pounds; the G14 review noted loud fans, and the Blade 16 roundup flagged heat and noise under load. Those are meaningful trade-offs for a laptop used on the move or in a quiet room.

Verify memory and storage before checkout

Look up the exact configuration’s installed RAM and whether it can be upgraded, along with SSD capacity and available slots. Tom’s Hardware describes the Katana 15 HX as having slotted RAM and a replaceable SSD; that does not establish upgrade options for every laptop on this list. PC Gamer’s TUF configuration has 16GB RAM, while the Scar 18 test configuration had 64GB and 4TB storage—different price and performance tiers, not a direct value comparison.

What the 2026 rankings do—and do not—establish

Tom’s Hardware selects the Blade 18 as its best gaming laptop, PC Gamer selects the Blade 16 as its best overall, and Tom’s Guide’s roundup names the G14 best overall. These labels are editorial judgments based on each publication’s own tested selection and criteria; they do not establish a single consensus winner. The cited shortlist ranges from RTX 5050 systems to RTX 5090 configurations, but a laptop GPU label alone does not determine overall performance.

The price figures above are review snapshots from US- and UK-oriented coverage, not verified current offers. Check live availability, local pricing and the precise display, GPU, RAM and storage configuration before buying; listings and configurations can change.
