Notebookcheck ranks the Framework Desktop Ryzen AI Max+ 395 first, followed by the BOSGAME M5, GMKtec EVO-X2, and Asus ROG NUC 15. But this is not a pure gaming-value ranking: it is primarily performance-led and includes professional workstations. For most gamers, the Framework Desktop is the best all-round compact PC, while the Asus ROG NUC 15 is the stronger choice for dedicated graphics, ray tracing, and high-resolution gaming.
This guide interprets Notebookcheck’s ranking, which carries an April 2026 update label and also contains references to a May 2026 buying list. Because that wording is inconsistent, it is more accurate to treat it as the ranking available when retrieved on September 11, 2026—not simply as an indefinitely “latest” list.

What “best” means in Notebookcheck’s list
The rating is an overall Notebookcheck assessment rather than a gaming-only score. Performance is central, but the table is not a simple calculation of game frame rates divided by price. Price and availability are displayed context rather than decisive ranking factors, and the list includes machines designed for professional workloads.
That distinction matters. A workstation may rank well because it offers strong CPU performance, certified professional drivers, business support, or serviceability, yet still be a poor purchase for somebody who only wants to play games. The list therefore answers three different questions:
- Best according to Notebookcheck: the Framework Desktop.
- Best gaming-first design in this group: the Asus ROG NUC 15.
- Best purchase for a particular buyer: dependent on resolution, workload, price, noise tolerance, and upgrade needs.
1. Framework Desktop
Notebookcheck rating: 88.4%. The tested configuration combines a Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processor, Radeon 8060S integrated graphics, 64GB of memory, and a 1TB SSD. It measures 205.5 × 226.1 × 96.8mm and weighs 3.1kg.
The reason it leads is not simply its APU. Framework uses a standard Mini-ITX motherboard and FlexATX power supply, alongside a 120mm CPU fan. That gives it a level of desktop-style flexibility unusual in a sealed mini-PC. Framework’s official product page describes the ecosystem and component approach.
This matters for repairs, storage changes, cooling maintenance, and future customization. It does not mean every part is freely replaceable, nor does it make the Framework the smallest or cheapest option. Its advantage is the combination of very high APU performance and a potentially longer service path.
Buy it if: you want gaming plus compiling, creative work, AI workloads, or heavy multitasking in a compact desktop. Reconsider it if: ray tracing, maximum 4K performance, or the lowest possible purchase price matters more than modularity.
2. BOSGAME M5
Notebookcheck rating: 87.7%. The M5 uses the same Ryzen AI Max+ 395 and Radeon 8060S platform, with a tested 128GB RAM and 2TB SSD configuration. Its 200 × 215 × 57mm chassis weighs 1.3kg, making it much thinner and lighter than the Framework.
BOSGAME advertises 96GB and 128GB memory options, dual M.2 PCIe 4.0 slots, and shared graphics-memory allocation on its official product page. The extra memory is potentially useful for local AI, virtual machines, large creative projects, and multitasking. It is not automatically a good gaming investment: most games will not gain proportionally from moving from 64GB to 128GB.
The M5 is compelling when its configuration is materially cheaper than the Framework or when the additional memory has a real purpose. Check the exact SKU, opening procedure, warranty, return policy, and power supply before ordering. Official pages have shown conflicting sale and comparison prices, so checkout—not a promotional banner—should be treated as the authoritative figure.
3. GMKtec EVO-X2
Notebookcheck rating: 87.5%. The EVO-X2 is another Ryzen AI Max+ 395/Radeon 8060S system, measuring 185.8 × 193 × 77mm and weighing 1.6kg. GMKtec lists 64GB/1TB, 128GB/1TB, and 128GB/2TB variants on its official page.
GMKtec specifies a 16-core, 32-thread processor, a 120W sustained operating target, and up to 140W peak power. Those limits help explain why performance can vary between quiet, balanced, and performance modes. A published configuration price of $1,999.99 for 64GB/1TB was a time-sensitive vendor listing rather than a permanent price; verify currency, tax, shipping, stock, warranty, and return terms at checkout.

- GAMING PC - The Radeon 760M iGPU has 8 CUs (512 shaders) running at up to 2,600 MHz. This desktop computer can play moderate gaming at a steady FPS, it also HW-encodes and HW-decodes the most widely used video codecs such as AV1, HEVC and AVC.
- DUAL NIC LAN 2.5G RJ45 - Fast Network Speeds: Enjoy up to 2500Mbps data transmission speed without worrying about lagging. Ideal for working, gaming, and surfing the internet. Great for Untangle, Pfsense or as a server office PC.
- TRIPLE 4K DISPLAY - Unlock unparalleled productivity with support for three simultaneous displays, including a stunning 8K@60Hz via USB4, plus 4K@60Hz through both HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort, transforming your workspace into a command center for multitasking and immersive entertainment.
The EVO-X2 is a strong compact alternative when it is substantially cheaper than the Framework. Its main compromises are soldered memory and less desktop-standard serviceability. GMKtec has also used RTX 4070 comparisons in its marketing. Treat those as vendor positioning, not a universal game-performance equivalence.
4. Asus ROG NUC 15
Notebookcheck rating: 84.5%. The ROG NUC 15 is the clearest gaming-first system in the ranking. It pairs a Core Ultra 9 275HX with an RTX 5080 Laptop GPU, 32GB of RAM, and a 2TB SSD. Its approximately three-litre chassis measures 187.7 × 282.4 × 146mm and weighs 3kg.
Unlike the first three entries, it has a dedicated GPU with its own graphics memory and a separate GPU power budget. That makes it the safer choice for ray tracing, GPU-heavy workloads, and demanding 1440p or 4K gaming. Notebookcheck reports that its cooling performs well under prolonged load.
The trade-off is size, cost, power consumption, and reliance on a mobile-GPU design whose performance depends on power limits. Asus’s platform material lists DDR5-6400 SO-DIMM support, Wi-Fi 7, and up to 96GB of memory for the documented platform; regional retail configurations may differ.

A European list-price signal of €2,829 was associated with the cited configuration, but it should not be treated as a current worldwide street price. Buy the ROG NUC when gaming performance matters more than modularity. For esports and older games, the premium over a Radeon 8060S system may be difficult to justify.
5. Acemagic M1A Pro+
Notebookcheck rating: 84.5%. This compact cube measures 175 × 160 × 159mm and weighs 1.9kg. The tested configuration uses the Ryzen AI Max+ 395, Radeon 8060S, 128GB of memory, and no listed SSD capacity in the ranking snapshot.
It offers the same broad APU strengths as the other Strix Halo systems: strong CPU throughput, capable integrated graphics, and high performance for its volume. Its weakness is the usual one for highly integrated mini-PCs: memory and major platform components offer limited user replacement.
Notebookcheck listed a €2,599 price signal, but that is a list-price reference rather than a guaranteed current retail price. Confirm the exact manufacturer SKU, support terms, and storage configuration before buying.

Notebookcheck rating: 84.1%. The MS-S1 Max measures 206.3 × 222.1 × 77.1mm and weighs 2.8kg. Its tested configuration uses the Ryzen AI Max+ 395, Radeon 8060S, 128GB RAM, and a 2TB SSD.
It is best understood as a workstation and AI-capable hybrid that can also game well, rather than as a purpose-built gaming box. The high-memory configuration is useful for demanding multitasking and local workloads, but gaming buyers should compare its total price with the ROG NUC and smaller APU alternatives. Check the official store for the exact current configuration.

7. HP Z2 Mini G1a
Notebookcheck rating: 78.7%. The Z2 Mini G1a uses the Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 395, Radeon 8060S, 64GB RAM, and a 2TB SSD. It measures 200 × 168 × 85.5mm and weighs 2.6kg.
Its appeal is professional positioning, business support, and workstation deployment rather than gaming value. It may make sense for CAD, engineering, certified applications, or managed fleets. For a home gamer, the professional premium is difficult to defend when a similarly capable consumer APU system costs less.

8. Zotac ZBOX Magnus EN374070
Notebookcheck rating: 78.5%. This older discrete-GPU mini-PC uses a Core i7-13700HX and RTX 4070 Laptop GPU. It measures 203 × 210 × 62.2mm and weighs 1.6kg.
It remains a credible gaming option because its dedicated GPU is better suited to ray tracing and GPU-heavy games than an integrated design, but its age and availability are concerns. Notebookcheck listed a €1,629 price signal; current stock may matter more than that historical list price.
9. HP Z2 Mini G9
Notebookcheck rating: 75.6%. The Z2 Mini G9 combines a Core i7-14700K, RTX A2000, 32GB RAM, and a 1TB SSD in a 218 × 211 × 69mm, 3kg workstation chassis.
Its professional GPU, serviceability, and enterprise features can be valuable for certified applications. The RTX A2000 is not a gaming-focused alternative to the ROG NUC’s GeForce GPU, however. High price, limited connectivity, and high emissions further weaken its case as a gaming purchase.

10. Lenovo ThinkStation P3 Tiny
Notebookcheck rating: 73.6%. The P3 Tiny is the thinnest system here at 182 × 179 × 37mm and weighs 1.5kg. It uses a Core i9-14900, 64GB RAM, 1TB SSD, and Nvidia T1000 graphics.
That footprint is impressive, but the T1000 is a professional GPU with weak gaming value compared with modern GeForce hardware. Choose it for corporate deployment, professional software, compactness, and support—not for serious modern gaming. Notebookcheck listed a €2,149 price signal, which reinforces the mismatch for ordinary gamers.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Radeon 8060S versus RTX 5080 Laptop graphics
The first, second, third, fifth, sixth, and seventh systems use Radeon 8060S integrated graphics. The GPU is built into the Ryzen AI Max+ processor and uses fast shared system memory rather than a conventional dedicated VRAM pool. AMD lists the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 as a 16-core, 32-thread chip with up to 5.1GHz, a configurable 45–120W power range, Radeon 8060S graphics, and a 50 TOPS NPU in its selling documentation.
That design enables impressive CPU and graphics performance in a compact enclosure, but it is sensitive to memory allocation, cooling, and power limits. More system memory can help AI and professional workloads without delivering a proportional gaming-frame-rate increase. Memory is soldered in many systems, so choose the capacity carefully.

The ROG NUC’s RTX 5080 Laptop GPU has dedicated graphics memory and a separate power budget. It is generally preferable for ray tracing, high-resolution gaming, CUDA-dependent software, and sustained GPU workloads. The result is not that every game runs at a fixed multiple of the APU systems: drivers, game engines, upscaling, ray tracing settings, and the laptop GPU’s power limit all matter.

| Lenovo ThinkStation P3 Tiny | 8,450 | 3,088 |
These are 3DMark graphics results, not game frame rates. The ROG NUC’s lead suggests a substantial dedicated-GPU advantage, especially at higher resolutions and with ray tracing, but it cannot predict performance in every title. Separate 1080p, 1440p, and 4K game testing is required for that.
Best mini-PC by buyer type

- Best compact APU alternative: GMKtec EVO-X2, if the price is materially lower and soldered memory is acceptable.
- Best high-memory hybrid: BOSGAME M5, when AI, virtual machines, content creation, or large workloads justify 96–128GB.
- Best professional workstation: HP Z2 Mini G1a or Z2 Mini G9, depending on required certification and upgrade needs.
- Best ultra-thin system: Lenovo ThinkStation P3 Tiny—but not for serious modern gaming.
Buying advice before you order
Match the PC to the resolution
At 1080p, the Radeon 8060S systems may be highly competitive. At 1440p, settings and upscaling become more important. At 4K and in ray-traced games, the RTX 5080 Laptop system is the safer choice. Do not select based on a 1080p result if your actual monitor is 4K.
Check the memory arrangement
Confirm whether the advertised capacity is usable system RAM, how much is reserved for graphics, and whether the memory is soldered. Buy 128GB because you need it for AI, virtual machines, or professional work—not merely because a larger number sounds more gaming-ready.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCompare sustained modes, not peak claims
Performance can change substantially between quiet, balanced, and performance modes. Check the power limit, supplied adapter, fan behavior, and whether performance falls after several minutes of load. A quoted peak wattage is not the same as sustained gaming performance.
Measure the complete setup
Mini-PC prices exclude a display, keyboard, mouse, audio equipment, and sometimes an operating-system upgrade. Include the cost of a suitable high-refresh monitor and account for the power brick, ventilation clearance, stand, and cable space. A gaming laptop can be cheaper once screen, keyboard, and battery are included; a small-form-factor desktop can offer better long-term upgradeability.
Investigate vendor support
For smaller direct-to-consumer brands, verify warranty length, return window, shipping region, import fees, replacement power-supply availability, BIOS updates, driver support, and the exact model number. GMKtec advertises a one-year warranty, a seven-day return window, and no import fees for US orders, but these are vendor claims that should be confirmed at checkout.
Alternatives outside this ranking
A gaming laptop is better when you need a built-in screen, keyboard, battery, and portability. A small-form-factor desktop is better when replaceable graphics, standard DIMMs, easier cooling maintenance, and future upgrades matter. A cheaper integrated mini-PC can be sufficient for esports, older games, emulation, streaming, and office work. A console remains the simplest choice for living-room gaming with predictable software support.
The HP and Lenovo workstations should not be treated as normal gaming alternatives simply because they appear in the top ten. Their professional drivers, certifications, and enterprise support can justify their cost for the right buyer, but GeForce gaming hardware is generally a better fit for somebody buying primarily for games.
