The available vendor benchmarks do not establish which current retail model handles one 4K60 stream best over long periods. Choose a GPU with hardware encoding for a codec YouTube accepts, then verify the exact card, PC, cooling and internet connection under sustained load. For 4K60, YouTube recommends 35 Mbps ingest for AV1 or H.265, or 50 Mbps for H.264.
What matters more than a model name
A 24/7 playlist is a single, continuous encoding workload. A GPU’s gaming performance, number of encoder engines or peak benchmark score alone does not establish that it will deliver stable 4K60 encoding in your setup. Compare candidate cards using the same codec, resolution, frame rate and quality target, and pay attention to sustained temperatures, power use, dropped frames, driver and OBS support, system compatibility, warranty and current price.
- Hardware encoder and codec: Look for a dedicated encoder that supports a codec accepted by YouTube Live. NVIDIA describes NVENC as a dedicated GPU component separate from graphics and CUDA cores. Its guide discusses AV1 and HEVC for streaming.
- Single-stream performance: This is the relevant capacity for one playlist. Multiple NVENC engines can improve aggregate performance across concurrent sessions, but do not by themselves establish a better result for one stream.
- Continuous operation: A 24/7 target also depends on the whole computer, its cooling and power, the network connection and your recovery plan. The available official documentation does not certify a consumer GPU for 24/7 uptime.
- Workload-specific evidence: Ask whether a published result tests 4K60, the codec and settings you intend to use, and a sustained single stream. A benchmark at another resolution or for multiple sessions is not a substitute.
4K60 YouTube ingest bitrate by codec
YouTube’s encoder guidance gives the following minimum and recommended ingest bitrates. These are platform recommendations, not a guarantee that your upload connection can sustain a stream or that viewers will receive a particular picture quality.

For context, YouTube lists recommended bitrates of 24 Mbps for AV1/H.265 and 34 Mbps for H.264 at 1440p60; at 1080p60 the listed recommendations are 12 Mbps and 17 Mbps, respectively. YouTube transcodes incoming live streams into different output formats for viewers, so the ingest setting is not the only factor in what they see.

Test the actual upload connection under sustained load, with headroom beyond the chosen video bitrate. YouTube advises testing with movement and audio similar to the intended broadcast and checking stream health. A speed test at one moment does not demonstrate that a connection, encoder or PC will remain stable around the clock.
How to choose and configure an encoder
Choose a supported codec, not a benchmark headline
NVIDIA’s current streaming guide recommends AV1 as an OBS option on supported RTX GPUs and also discusses HEVC. NVIDIA says AV1 livestreaming is supported in 4K60 on YouTube. Treat that as a capability statement, not independent proof that a particular graphics card is the best 4K60 choice. H.264 is another option, with a higher recommended 4K60 ingest bitrate in YouTube’s table.
YouTube’s Live Control Room workflow requires the encoder’s resolution, frame rate and bitrate to be configured. It detects encoder settings and transcodes the incoming feed for different viewer devices and network conditions. The names and locations of encoder controls can vary by OBS and driver version, so check the current software interface rather than relying on a fixed menu path.

Start with stable rate control and test the full playlist
NVIDIA’s OBS guidance suggests constant bitrate (CBR). Its SDK distinguishes CBR, variable bitrate (VBR) and constant-QP rate control; for a different use case—game-casting or cloud transcoding—it offers high-quality tuning, CBR, a medium VBV buffer, B-frames, look-ahead, adaptive quantization and a finite two-second GOP as starting guidance for Turing and newer. Those SDK suggestions are not a guaranteed YouTube or OBS preset. Tune against the current platform-compatible encoder settings and your system’s performance.

Watch both the encoder’s performance indicators and YouTube’s stream-health status. NVIDIA warns that GPU utilization can affect smooth streaming when CUDA-accelerated look-ahead is enabled; if frames become unstable, check that setting and test again.
HDR requires a separate check
NVIDIA’s guide says YouTube HDR streaming requires HEVC and an appropriate Main10 configuration, with YouTube latency set to Low or Normal rather than Ultra Low. This is specific to the HDR path; confirm the current encoder and YouTube settings before building a workflow around it.

Why published NVENC figures do not identify a 4K60 winner
NVIDIA’s encoder performance table is not a direct 4K comparison. Its stated test input is 1920 × 1080, YUV 4:2:0, 8-bit, with named software and platform assumptions. Under that test setup, NVIDIA reports 624 fps for Blackwell AV1 P5 CBR/low-latency and 512 fps for Ada. The figures are vendor-reported 1080p results; NVIDIA says performance varies with GPU class and clock speed. They do not prove 4K60 quality, continuous-load stability, thermals or a retail-model winner.
NVIDIA explains that multiple NVENC engines can increase aggregate throughput for multiple simultaneous sessions. A single session does not exceed per-engine performance simply because a GPU has multiple engines, unless supported split-frame encoding is used. For a single playlist, buy for verified single-stream performance rather than encoder count alone.

That vendor material does not provide an independent comparison of 4K60 24/7 performance, temperatures, power use or prices. It is a candidate to evaluate, not a proven best GPU.

Plan for channel eligibility and continuous operation
Check YouTube’s live-stream limits
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days to stream live. Its stated concurrent limits are 10 active streams per channel and three active streams per stream key; both limits apply. These requirements are separate from the GPU’s encoding capability.
Design the PC and recovery plan as a system
Before leaving a playlist unattended, test sustained upstream bandwidth, the complete playlist and its transitions, encoder load and YouTube stream health. Plan how to recover after power, host or network interruption; the cited platform and vendor guidance does not describe an end-to-end auto-recovery design. If keeping a local recording is part of your plan, account for storage: NVIDIA advises allowing sufficient space for recording, and AMD’s Radeon ReLive documentation notes that archive size varies with profile and session duration. Neither provides a universal retention estimate for your stream.
- Check that the computer’s power, cooling and network remain stable in the exact configuration you intend to run.
- Monitor the encoder and YouTube stream health during testing, including playlist transitions.
- Decide what should happen after a PC restart or lost connection, and test that recovery procedure rather than assuming it will be automatic.
- If archiving locally, estimate storage from your own recording tests and intended retention period.

Copyright and reused content still matter
A technically stable encoder does not grant permission to broadcast the music, gameplay, video or other material in a playlist. Check that you have the necessary rights for every item and for the way you intend to use it. YouTube eligibility rules also apply independently of the hardware or service you use. Practical verdict
For a PC-based 4K60 playlist, select a GPU with a hardware encoder for your chosen YouTube-compatible codec, but do not buy a named model on the strength of 1080p encoder tables or gaming benchmarks. YouTube’s recommended 4K60 ingest rate is 35 Mbps for AV1/H.265 or 50 Mbps for H.264; stable continuous operation still has to be demonstrated by testing the complete PC, network and playlist.
