For more frames per second in Apex Legends on PC, start with EA’s low-settings competitive baseline, keep your monitor’s native resolution, and change only a few options at a time while watching your FPS. Treat these settings as a starting point: the best balance depends on your hardware, how much image quality you want, and what feels comfortable.
Start with these display settings
EA’s PC settings guide recommends a performance-first approach. In the in-game Video settings, use the following baseline and adjust it to suit your setup:
- Display mode: Full Screen for a one-monitor setup. Choose Windowed if you use more than one monitor.
- Aspect ratio and resolution: Use your monitor’s default aspect ratio and resolution. Keeping native resolution preserves clarity; lowering resolution can reduce GPU load if you need more FPS, at the cost of image detail.
- Brightness: Raise it slightly if that makes enemies easier for you to see.
- Field of view (FOV): EA’s settings guide lists 90–110. However, EA’s PC features reference warns that FOV above 90 may affect performance or cause visual issues. Try a comfortable value rather than assuming the widest view is best.
- Sprint view shake: Choose Minimal or whichever setting you find more comfortable.
Resolution and FOV are especially useful to consider together: lowering resolution trades sharpness for reduced GPU load, while a wider FOV can carry the performance or visual trade-offs EA describes above 90.
EA’s performance-first advanced video settings
EA recommends running the lowest graphics settings possible when maximizing FPS is the priority. These are the PC guide’s suggested advanced settings, not a guarantee that every option will improve every player’s results.

| Setting | Performance-first choice | When to adjust it |
|---|---|---|
| V-Sync | Disabled | EA’s exception is screen tearing: try enabling it if tearing is occurring. |
| NVIDIA Reflex | Enabled for NVIDIA GPUs | EA’s recommendation applies to NVIDIA graphics cards. |
| Adaptive Resolution FPS Target | Disabled | EA suggests enabling it only if FPS drops frequently. |
| Adaptive Supersampling | Raise it if very low settings make the game look poor | This is EA’s image-quality adjustment for a game that looks too rough at low settings. |
| Anti-aliasing | None | Raise it only if you prefer smoother edges over the performance-first baseline. |
| Texture Streaming Budget | Low or Medium | Choose between EA’s two suggested options based on your setup and preference. |
| Texture Filtering | Bilinear | Use this as the performance-first choice. |
| Ambient Occlusion | Disabled | Turning it off follows EA’s low-setting recommendation. |
| Sun Shadow Coverage and Sun Shadow Detail | Low | Keep both low for the baseline. |
| Spot Shadow Detail | Low | Keep it low for the baseline. |
| Volumetric Lighting | Disabled | Keep it off for the baseline. |
| Dynamic Spot Shadows | Disabled | Keep it off for the baseline. |
| Model Detail and Effects Detail | Low | Restore detail selectively if you prefer the appearance and have performance headroom. |
| Impact Marks | Low or Disabled | EA lists either option. |
| Ragdolls | Low | Keep it low for the baseline. |
To find your own balance, leave the baseline in place, then raise or lower a few settings at a time. That makes it easier to see which changes affect performance and which mainly affect appearance.
Track FPS while you adjust settings
Use Apex’s Performance Display or Steam’s in-game FPS counter while testing. EA says Apex’s display shows FPS and ping, so you can watch performance during play rather than judging a setting from its menu alone.

- QHD Resolution (2560 x 1440) has 1.7 times the pixel density of Full HD for incredibly detailed pinsharp images
- HDR10 provides brighter highlights and nuanced shadow for added depth - making every scene feel more vivid and realistic
- The 180Hz refresh rate minimizes lag for gameplay with ultra-smooth action. Plus, the 1ms response time helps capture your moves in real-time, allowing you to react fast for gaming precision
- AMD FreeSync reduces choppiness, screen lag and image tearing, ensuring that your fast-paced, complex in-game action is stable with minimal stutter
- Ergonomic stand allows for tilt, pivot and height adjustments to maximize gaming comfort
- Turn on Performance Display in Apex’s settings, or enable Steam’s in-game FPS counter.
- Play in a representative match or area and note the FPS you see.
- Change a few graphics settings, then compare under similar conditions.
- Keep changes that help your priorities; revert changes that reduce clarity or comfort without a useful performance benefit.
EA documents the PC launch option +fps_max <required frame rate> for both the EA app and Steam. It also warns that changing the cap can cause performance issues and advises checking your PC specifications before applying one. There is no universally best cap established by EA’s guide.
Keep sensitivity separate from graphics
Mouse and controller sensitivity affect how aiming and turning feel, not graphics quality. EA describes a trade-off: lower sensitivity favors controlled, larger movements, while higher sensitivity makes turns quicker but can make aiming less accurate. Its guide offers ranges as starting points and says there is no official definition of high, medium, or low sensitivity. Change sensitivity gradually and keep the setting that feels controlled to you.

Check what your PC can support
EA’s PC system requirements page describes its recommended specifications as intended for a smooth 60 FPS experience. It lists an Intel i5 3570K or equivalent, 8 GB RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 or AMD Radeon R9 290, and 8 GB GPU RAM as recommended, plus 75 GB of minimum free drive space. These are EA’s published requirements, not a current benchmark or a guarantee of a particular FPS at a particular resolution and settings combination. The page does not state a publication year.

The PC graphics preset above does not enable console 120 FPS mode. EA says PS5 and Xbox Series X|S require a 120Hz display and an HDMI cable that supports 120Hz. On console, EA’s instructions call for selecting Performance mode and using Apex’s Video tab. Check the display and cable specifications; not every HDMI cable supports the required refresh rate. See EA’s FPS guide for its console instructions.
