There is no single best graphics preset for every Battlefield 2042 PC. Start at your display’s native resolution, choose a frame-rate target your system can sustain, and use the Custom preset to adjust settings around your priorities: image quality, steadier performance, or lower input latency. The values below are a tuning starting point, not a tested or patch-specific benchmark.
Start with a sensible baseline
- Set your display mode, display device, native resolution, and refresh rate. Use the resolution your display is designed for unless you have a clear performance reason to reduce it.
- Choose a sustainable frame-rate target. If the game cannot hold it reliably, reduce demanding graphics settings and retest rather than assuming the highest preset will work well.
- Select Custom if you want to change individual options. EA lists Low, Medium, High, Ultra, and Custom presets; some setting changes require a restart. See EA’s Battlefield 2042 PC settings reference.
- Change a few settings at a time. Compare performance and image quality in the same kind of gameplay, then keep changes that meet your target without making the image distracting.
EA advises players whose PCs are near the minimum requirements to lower some graphics settings. Meeting the minimum requirements does not mean the game will run well at the highest settings, according to EA’s system-requirements guidance.
Which graphics settings should you lower first?
Higher-quality options can cost performance, but the impact varies by system. EA’s reference identifies texture quality, terrain, undergrowth, effects, and post-processing as settings where higher quality may reduce performance. Adjust them selectively instead of assuming that one preset is best for every PC.
- Textures and filtering: Favor higher texture quality if performance remains acceptable; reduce quality if you need more headroom.
- Terrain and undergrowth: Lower these if you need to trade environmental detail for performance.
- Effects and post-processing: Reduce them if visual effects or processing appear to be limiting your target.
- Ambient occlusion: EA describes HBAO as the highest-quality ambient-occlusion option and also the one with the highest performance cost. Choose it for image quality only if its cost is acceptable on your PC.
EA documents these tradeoffs but does not publish current-build comparative benchmarks or fixed frame-rate gains for individual settings. Your own system and target determine which adjustment helps.

Dynamic resolution, DLSS, and ray tracing
Dynamic Resolution Scale
Dynamic Resolution Scale can help deliver a more consistent frame rate by reducing resolution when needed, according to EA. The tradeoff is image resolution: the picture may become softer while the setting is working to maintain performance.
DLSS
EA’s settings reference says DLSS requires an NVIDIA RTX graphics card and cannot be used at the same time as Dynamic Resolution Scale. If you use DLSS, compare the resulting image and performance on your own PC rather than relying on older launch-era claims as a current benchmark.

- QHD Resolution (2560 x 1440) has 1.7 times the pixel density of Full HD for incredibly detailed pinsharp images
- HDR10 provides brighter highlights and nuanced shadow for added depth - making every scene feel more vivid and realistic
- The 180Hz refresh rate minimizes lag for gameplay with ultra-smooth action. Plus, the 1ms response time helps capture your moves in real-time, allowing you to react fast for gaming precision
- AMD FreeSync reduces choppiness, screen lag and image tearing, ensuring that your fast-paced, complex in-game action is stable with minimal stutter
- Ergonomic stand allows for tilt, pivot and height adjustments to maximize gaming comfort
Ray-Traced Ambient Occlusion
EA says Ray Traced Ambient Occlusion overrides the selected ambient-occlusion method. Treat it as a separate image-quality choice, not an additional ambient-occlusion option layered on top of the one you selected.
Balance smoothness and input latency
Future Frame Rendering
Future Frame Rendering buffers future frames. EA says turning it on can improve visual smoothness while increasing input lag; turning it off can improve responsiveness but may degrade visual performance. Choose based on what matters more to you, then compare in play.

- Smooth motion: 240Hz refresh rate and fast 0.5ms response time provide crisp visuals and fluid movement with less input lag.
- Seamless gaming: FreeSync Premium and HDMI VRR eliminate tearing for smooth, responsive PC and console gameplay.
- Fast IPS: Faster 0.5ms response with excellent color accuracy across wide IPS viewing angles.
- Rich color: 99% sRGB color coverage delivers vivid, detailed imagery with strong accuracy.
- Eye comfort: TÜV Rheinland 3‑star certified display lowers blue light while preserving color quality.
V-Sync and variable refresh rate
EA describes V-Sync as locking the frame rate to the full-screen display’s refresh rate. Its effect may differ when variable-refresh-rate technology is enabled, so do not assume that the toggle behaves identically on every display setup.
NVIDIA Reflex
EA identifies Reflex as an NVIDIA-specific latency option. Its availability and relevance depend on your hardware; the official settings description does not establish a universal performance result.

Display and image-quality controls
Battlefield 2042’s PC display settings include brightness, HDR, vertical field of view, vehicle third-person field of view, ADS field-of-view behavior, and motion blur. EA documents a vertical FOV slider from 50 to 105, with 55 as the default. That range and default are not evidence that one value is best; choose a field of view you can see comfortably and evaluate it in play.
The game also provides toggles for chromatic aberration, film grain, vignette, and lens distortion, alongside post-processing antialiasing. These let you tailor the picture, but the official reference does not identify a universally preferable combination. Adjust them according to the image you want rather than treating a particular choice as a guaranteed performance fix.

How to tune settings for your PC
- Set a baseline. Use native resolution and your intended display refresh rate, then choose a preset close to the quality level you want.
- Check whether you can sustain your target. If not, use Custom and reduce the quality settings most relevant to your priorities, such as terrain, undergrowth, effects, post-processing, or ambient occlusion.
- Choose a resolution strategy. Try Dynamic Resolution Scale for steadier performance if variable resolution is acceptable. If you have an NVIDIA RTX card, you can consider DLSS instead; EA says the two options are incompatible.
- Decide how to handle latency. Compare Future Frame Rendering on and off, and consider V-Sync in the context of your display’s refresh-rate features.
- Recheck after changes that require a restart. EA notes that some settings need a game restart to take effect.
Change one group of settings at a time and judge both clarity and consistency. This avoids attributing an improvement to the wrong option and helps you find a configuration that fits your own resolution, hardware, and preferences.
What this guide can and cannot establish
EA’s official settings reference explains what many controls do, but it does not provide a current optimized preset for every PC. The latest update marker cited here is a Battlefield 2042 Update 9.2.1 hotfix announcement in the Steam news archive dated September 8, 2025: Battlefield 2042 Steam news. That announcement is an update-history marker, not evidence that any particular settings are optimal in that or a later build. Accordingly, no fixed frame-rate gain or universally best configuration is claimed here.
