For current-generation consoles, WB Games describes Fidelity as targeting 30 fps and Performance as targeting 60 fps. Those are official mode targets, not independent test results or a promise that the game will hold that rate in every scene. WB Games Support: Hogwarts Legacy graphics modes.
PS5: what each graphics mode does
Find the choices in Hogwarts Legacy’s Display Options. WB’s support page describes the modes as follows:
- Fidelity: prioritizes resolution and graphical quality.
- Fidelity with ray tracing: adds ray tracing; changing to or from this mode requires a reboot.
- Performance: prioritizes a high frame rate.
- Balanced: aims to balance resolution, graphics quality, and performance.
- HFR Performance: prioritizes maximum performance.
Balanced and HFR Performance are available only with supported output devices, so the game may not offer them on every display setup. For the mode descriptions and availability notes, see WB Games Support: adjusting Performance or Fidelity mode on PS5.

PS5 Pro is a separate case
A PS5 Pro update dated November 4, 2024 improved and optimized visuals and performance across modes. WB also says Pro modes have improved sharpness with PSSR compared with base PS5 and lists higher dynamic-resolution targets for Pro Fidelity, ray-tracing, and Performance modes. These Pro-specific improvements should not be taken as descriptions of base-PS5 performance; details are in WB Games Support’s PS5 mode guidance.
If PS5 keeps switching your choice
If the game displays “PERFORMANCE MODE SET TO DEFAULT” instead of keeping your selection, WB identifies a conflict with PS5 Game Presets as the likely cause. On PS5, go to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Game Presets, set Performance or Resolution to Game Default, then select the preferred mode in Hogwarts Legacy’s Display Options.

Xbox Series X|S: choose between Fidelity and Performance
WB documents the common Fidelity target of 30 fps and Performance target of 60 fps for Xbox Series X|S, and confirms VRR-supported modes for compatible displays. The available support information groups the consoles together rather than establishing a full, separate mode list for Series X and Series S. PS4 and Xbox One: use the legacy version’s options
The new-generation modes described above should not be presumed to exist on PS4 or Xbox One. Digital Foundry’s May 10, 2023 review covers PS4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One, and Xbox One X, describing significant cutbacks while judging the overall experience to hold together. Its available summary does not establish exact resolution or frame-rate figures for each model, so figures circulating without a clearly attributable measurement should not be treated as settled specifications. Display controls, VRR, and 120 Hz
Check whether your display supports optional modes
WB confirms VRR-supported modes on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S when paired with a VRR-compatible TV or monitor. Sony explains that VRR adjusts refresh rate in real time with compatible TVs and games, and that 120 Hz output requires both a compatible display and a supporting game. These display features are optional; the basic Fidelity and Performance choices do not mean you need to buy a new screen. Check PS5 video output
PS5 detects TV capabilities and selects the best available resolution automatically. To review output, open Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output. Sony recommends the supplied PS5 cable or an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable rated for 4K/120 Hz when troubleshooting 4K/120 Hz output, and advises using an appropriate supported port on the TV. Brightness and image-effect settings
Hogwarts Legacy lets you adjust brightness and toggle Motion Blur, Chromatic Aberration, Depth of Field, and Film Grain. WB does not prescribe one universally best combination. Try changing one effect at a time and keep the combination you prefer; that is a matter of taste, not a measured performance optimization.
