Ubisoft confirmed that some players had accessed the game early, but the reports did not establish who supplied the copies, how many circulated, or whether the footage showed a build representative of the finished release.
What happened before launch?
In February 2025, Insider Gaming reported that early physical copies of Assassin’s Creed Shadows were in circulation and that streams and gameplay uploads had appeared online. The report mentioned a social account’s claim that copies could be obtained through Facebook Marketplace, but Insider Gaming said it could not find copies on Facebook’s UK marketplace. Images offered in support of that claim were later deleted, so the marketplace was not established as the source of the reported copies. Insider Gaming’s report
Ubisoft’s community team separately acknowledged that players had accessed the game ahead of its then-scheduled March 20, 2025 release. Its statement, reproduced by GamesRadar+, said: “The development team is still working on patches to prepare the experience for launch and any footage shared online does not represent the final quality of the game.” The team also asked players not to spoil the experience for others. Why was March 20, 2025 the release date?
March 20 was a revised date, not the original schedule. Ubisoft announced the change and said additional weeks were needed to implement player feedback and prepare the day-one experience. Marc-Alexis Coté, writing on behalf of the teams working on the game, said that the extra time would help deliver “an even more ambitious and engaging day-one experience.” Ubisoft’s release-date announcement

Should you watch leaked footage?
If you want to avoid story and gameplay spoilers, treat social-media clips, streams, and reposts as potential spoilers and mute or block relevant keywords and accounts until you are ready to play. Ubisoft’s warning also matters when judging what a clip shows: the company said patches were still in preparation and that circulated footage did not represent the game’s final quality. The available reporting does not establish that any particular leaked clip matched the launch build.
What does the released game’s gameplay look like?
For a reliable picture of the released game, use Ubisoft’s official gameplay material rather than assuming a pre-launch leak represents the final version. Ubisoft describes Naoe as a stealth-focused shinobi and Yasuke as a samurai, with distinct approaches to infiltration and combat. Its stealth overview covers manual enemy grabs, double assassinations, detection and investigation behavior, and how seasons and weather affect stealth.
