For Monster Hunter Wilds Ver. 1.042, the most fully specified current example is an HR 100+ Great Sword build tailored to Gogmazios: use fire for phases 1–2, then switch to dragon for phase 3. It is not a universal best build—the guide behind it says raw builds are preferred for most other monsters. Your target and progression stage should determine the setup.
Current Gogmazios Great Sword build (HR 100+)
The September 27, 2026 build guide specifies an elemental Ostrak Oblivion (R8), configured with one element infusion and three attack infusions. Its fire configuration is for Gogmazios phases 1–2; for phase 3, the guide recommends changing the weapon to dragon. The listed fire setup has 912 attack and 0% affinity; those are the guide’s configuration values, not independently measured damage results. See the build guide.

The build’s computed skill list is Offensive Guard 3, Weakness Exploit 5, Agitator 5, Fire Attack 3, Focus 3, Guard Up 3, Maximum Might 3, Counterstrike 3, Divine Blessing 3, Peak Performance 3, Quick Sheathe 3, Burst 2, and Evade Extender 2. Its armor contributes Mutual Hostility II from the Gogmazios pieces and Second Wind I from Guardian Fulgur pieces. The guide’s rationale is that timed blocks activate Offensive Guard, while tackling through attacks supports Counterstrike and the Great Sword combo; it also says Second Wind helps maintain Maximum Might. These are the guide’s explanations, not independently tested performance findings.
Is this the best build for your hunt?
Not necessarily. The cited build is a matchup-specific elemental set for late-game Gogmazios. Its author says raw builds are preferred against most other monsters, so do not copy the fire/dragon setup as a general-purpose recommendation. A separate database lists Great Sword among its S-tier weapons and Grimslayer Urgeom as a raw-build weapon, but those are that site’s rankings and descriptions—not official Capcom rankings. Its data was verified September 6, 2026, for Ver. 1.042. Check the site’s builds and database.

High Rank progression options
If you are not yet at HR 100+, an endgame Gogmazios loadout is not an immediate target. Icy Veins provides High Rank progression examples, including a Weakness Exploit option for HR 9–34, an Agitator option, and later High Rank armor examples. Its page was last updated December 22, 2025, so treat it as progression context rather than current September 2026 endgame guidance. Play the openings, not just the loadout
The Great Sword’s loop is to watch the monster, position for its next opening, then choose the shortest charge level that can connect. Tackles and offset options can help preserve momentum, but they do not replace positioning.
