Rockstar’s official material confirms HSW eligibility and race rules, but does not publish current head-to-head lap times or a ranked performance list. For a useful choice, match an HSW-eligible vehicle to the race class and course, then confirm the lobby allows HSW modifications.
What HSW upgrades do—and where they’re available
Hao’s Special Works is an in-game performance upgrade service at the LS Car Meet, not a real-world tuning shop. Rockstar introduced it as a feature for selected vehicles and described the upgrades as offering “elite driving performance.” The launch announcement named PS5 and Xbox Series X|S; Rockstar later brought HSW upgrades to PC Enhanced. Rockstar’s 2022 announcement and its PC Enhanced announcement describe the feature and platform expansion.
HSW support is edition- and vehicle-specific; it should not be assumed to work on every version of GTA Online or for every car. For example, Rockstar’s July 2026 update lists the Grotti Veleno GT as an HSW-upgrade vehicle on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and GTAV Enhanced. The list of eligible vehicles has expanded over time, so check the current supported roster for your edition before building a race choice around a particular car. Rockstar’s GTAV Title Update 1.73 Notes identify that example.
How HSW affects race eligibility
Race rules determine whether an HSW build can help. Rockstar’s update notes establish three important cases:

- Races that include HSW-capable vehicles: The lobby can allow or disable HSW modifications.
- HSW races with stock vehicles: HSW upgrades can be applied automatically to stock vehicles.
These distinctions come from Rockstar’s GTAV Title Update 1.64 Notes. Read the event’s class and modification settings rather than assuming that an HSW upgrade is enabled in every race.
How to choose an HSW car for a race
Because Rockstar does not publish a current comparative ranking, choose by the event and driving demands rather than by an unsupported “fastest car” list.

1. Start with the race class and eligibility
Check that your vehicle is allowed in the event and has HSW support on your game edition. If the lobby disables HSW modifications, an HSW build is not an advantage in that race. For an HSW-only event, make sure the selected vehicle meets the event’s requirements.
2. Consider the circuit
A course with long straights puts a different emphasis on speed than a tight, corner-heavy circuit. Consider whether the layout rewards acceleration between bends, sustained speed, or predictable cornering. The official sources cited here do not provide track-by-track rankings, so these are selection factors—not proof that a particular model is fastest on a given course.

3. Match the car’s strengths to the driving
When comparing candidates, look at acceleration versus top speed, handling and stability, and how comfortably you can keep the car on your chosen line. Rockstar’s descriptions of HSW as a high-performance feature do not establish numerical advantages for individual vehicles. Its PC Enhanced announcement uses the phrase “high-performance vehicles” but does not supply head-to-head lap times, handling scores, or track-specific results.
4. Compare candidates under the same rules
If you are deciding between eligible cars, keep the class, course, and HSW lobby setting consistent. A result from a different event or a lobby where HSW is disabled does not answer which build suits your race. The official sources provide no comparable lap-time figures, so a specific winner cannot be established from them.

What Rockstar’s published figures do—and don’t—show
Rockstar’s 2022 launch announcement listed five new vehicles and five existing vehicles in the initial HSW roster. That is a launch-era count, not the current number of eligible vehicles. In July 2026, Rockstar named one HSW-upgrade vehicle in that update: the Grotti Veleno GT. Neither figure is a performance ranking or evidence that those vehicles are the best racers.
Rockstar’s public descriptions characterize HSW qualitatively, but the cited materials do not provide a current universal winner, lap-time advantage, or comparative handling score. Treat specific “best HSW car” claims as unverified unless they show comparable tests for the same race conditions.
Check promotions separately from race advice
HSW-related offers can be temporary. Rockstar’s GTA Online page carried a time-limited Penaud La Coureuse/HSW-upgrade offer associated with September 2026; that promotion should not be treated as a permanent benefit or a current offer. Check Rockstar’s GTA Online page for live promotion details.
