There is no officially established single best job for Ramza in Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles. The practical choice is the job whose battlefield role you need, paired with abilities Ramza has learned elsewhere. Because learned abilities remain usable after changing jobs, you can build around a job’s core strengths instead of treating one class as the permanent answer.
How to choose Ramza’s job
Start with the job’s role, then consider what abilities Ramza has already learned and what you want him to do in your current battles. A job is not a complete, fixed build: Square Enix describes more than 20 jobs and over 300 abilities, with skills learned in one job assignable to another. Nintendo’s official listing likewise says learned abilities remain available after a job change.
- Choose a role first. Decide whether Ramza should focus on dealing damage, supporting allies, or another battlefield task.
- Account for learned abilities. Pair the job’s own skill kit with abilities Ramza has already learned from other jobs.
- Reassess as your roster develops. A job that suits your current needs may not be the best fit for a later battle or a different set of learned abilities.
- Keep your version in mind. The game offers enhanced and classic versions. Official descriptions distinguish their presentation and quality-of-life features, but do not establish whether every job mechanic is identical between them.
These are build-selection principles, not a ranking: the official product materials explain the flexible job system but do not publish a Ramza-specific best-job list, unlock schedule, or tested comparison of builds.
Why changing jobs does not lock in your build
Square Enix’s launch announcement describes jobs as having distinct skill kits that can be customized with abilities learned from other jobs. In practice, that means you can develop an ability in one job and later use it as part of a different job configuration. Nintendo’s product page also says learned abilities are retained after changing jobs.

The official descriptions establish this broad customization system; they do not specify Ramza’s individual job mechanics or the exact requirements for unlocking particular jobs and abilities.
Enhanced or classic: what the official descriptions establish
The Ivalice Chronicles includes enhanced and classic versions. Square Enix describes the enhanced version as having updated visuals, interface changes, added dialogue, and quality-of-life updates. The classic version recreates the 1997 game with the War of the Lions translation. Those are the differences established by the official descriptions; they do not verify whether all job mechanics are the same across versions.
