For most people buying a laptop for Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced, the best balance is an RTX 4060 or RTX 5060 Laptop GPU, 16GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD, and a good 1080p or 1600p display. Choose an RTX 5070 if you want more headroom for higher resolutions and newer games. An RTX 4050 can work as a budget option, but its 6GB of VRAM makes it a less compelling long-term choice.
These recommendations focus on the Enhanced edition. GTA V Legacy has much lower requirements, so a laptop selected only for Legacy may not be a good buy for Enhanced or other demanding games.
Check which GTA 5 edition you plan to play
Rockstar publishes separate PC requirements for GTA V Enhanced and GTA V Legacy. Enhanced is the sensible target when buying a new gaming laptop; Rockstar continues to make Legacy available for hardware that does not meet Enhanced requirements. Rockstar’s announcement about the PC upgrade explains the continued availability of Legacy.

What laptop specifications make sense for GTA V Enhanced?

Rockstar recommends an RTX 3060 8GB or RX 6600 XT 8GB for Enhanced. That makes an 8GB-or-better laptop GPU a sensible buying target; it does not mean every laptop GPU with the same name performs equally. The published requirements also call for 16GB dual-channel memory and a 105GB SSD.
Choose a laptop tier by budget and display goal
Best value: RTX 4060 or RTX 5060
For most buyers, this is the right place to start: pair either GPU with 16GB RAM, a 1TB SSD, and a quality 1080p or 1600p screen. The RTX 4060’s 8GB of VRAM is a better fit for a new Enhanced laptop than the RTX 4050’s 6GB. The RTX 5060 is another mainstream target, with 8GB memory listed by NVIDIA; do not assume a performance advantage over every RTX 4060 laptop without comparing the specific machines’ power limits and cooling.
An RTX 4060 can suit high-quality 1080p play and may suit 1600p with settings adjustments. A higher-resolution panel does not guarantee that every game will run at its native resolution and maximum settings at a high frame rate.
Best budget: RTX 4050, with compromises
An RTX 4050 laptop is an entry-level Enhanced choice for buyers who prioritize price and primarily play at 1080p. Look for 16GB RAM, a 144Hz display, and a decent cooling design; choose it only when it is meaningfully less expensive than a well-configured RTX 4060 or RTX 5060 alternative.

The RTX 4050 has 6GB of VRAM, so it offers less headroom for demanding settings, higher-resolution screens, extensive mods, and newer games than 8GB-or-more alternatives. It is not the preferred pairing for a 1600p or 2.5K panel if high settings are the priority.
Best for higher-resolution play: RTX 5070 or RTX 5070 Ti
An RTX 5070 is a stronger choice for buyers targeting high settings on a 1600p or 2.5K display, or seeking more room for future games. NVIDIA lists 12GB of memory for RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti Laptop GPUs. A well-cooled RTX 5070 Ti configuration is a premium option for demanding play, streaming, or other heavy workloads; its value depends on the price and the exact laptop specification.
Premium desktop replacement: RTX 5080 or RTX 5090
These GPUs are unnecessary for GTA V alone. Consider them if the laptop will also handle demanding recent games, content creation, or high-resolution external displays, and if the added cost, weight, and cooling demands are acceptable. NVIDIA lists 16GB memory for the RTX 5080 Laptop GPU and 24GB for the RTX 5090 Laptop GPU. Its RTX 50 Series laptop specifications also cover the lineup’s advertised platform features; support and benefits vary by game.
Most portable: a 14-inch RTX 4060 or RTX 5060 model
A 14-inch gaming laptop is easier to carry than a large performance system, but its compact cooling may limit sustained GPU performance. Compare the exact GPU power rating, fan behavior, upgrade options, and screen rather than assuming a small laptop will match a thicker model with the same GPU name.

How GPU power, cooling, and graphics switching affect performance
Laptop GPU names identify a class of hardware, not a single performance level. Manufacturers can set different total graphics power limits, and chassis cooling, CPU power sharing, BIOS performance modes, and ambient temperature affect sustained results. Check the exact configuration’s specification page for its GPU power limit and cooling details. Do not rely on a retailer listing that says only “RTX 5070.”
Some laptops have a MUX switch, which can route the display directly to the discrete GPU; Advanced Optimus can switch between integrated and discrete graphics automatically. Either can help reduce the performance or latency cost of routing through integrated graphics, but using the discrete GPU can reduce battery life. Treat these features as useful extras rather than requirements for GTA V.
For example, ASUS lists an RTX 5070 configuration of the 2025 TUF Gaming A16 with up to 115W TGP and NVIDIA Advanced Optimus. That is a specification for a particular configuration, not a guarantee that every A16 listing has the same GPU power, components, or performance.
Match the screen to the way you want GTA 5 to look
For a cinematic game, display quality is more than refresh rate. Resolution affects sharpness and GPU load; panel type affects contrast and black levels; color coverage and brightness influence how scenes look; response time and refresh rate affect motion clarity. A 144Hz-or-better panel is a useful target, but a very high refresh rate is not automatically better than a screen with richer contrast and color.

OLED can make dark scenes and nighttime driving look especially rich because of its contrast and black levels. A good IPS panel may offer a higher refresh rate, lower cost, or a preferable fit for your needs. ASUS’s A16 illustrates the choice: the manufacturer lists a 2.5K 165Hz OLED option with 100% DCI-P3 coverage and 1100-nit peak brightness, or a 2.5K 300Hz IPS option with 400-nit typical brightness. Those listed figures apply to the specified panels; they do not establish the performance or availability of every regional SKU. Check ASUS’s model page and the exact listing before choosing.

ASUS TUF Gaming A16
The 2025 A16 family is worth considering if you want a 16-inch performance laptop with a choice of display types and upgrade options. ASUS lists configurations up to an RTX 5070, Ryzen 9 8940HX, and 32GB DDR5 memory, and describes storage and memory as user-upgradeable. Exact configurations vary. A high-resolution screen puts more load on the GPU, and a performance laptop is most capable when plugged in.
Lenovo Legion and Legion Pro
Lenovo positions Legion as its gaming-performance range and Legion Pro as the higher-performance, desktop-replacement-oriented line. Its family page describes Legion Pro systems with Legion ColdFront vapor cooling. Compare the exact GPU wattage, display, RAM, storage, and chassis weight; model-family names alone do not establish those details. See Lenovo’s Legion family page.

Before you buy: check the exact configuration
- GPU and power: Confirm the full GPU name, VRAM, and TGP on the manufacturer’s specification page. “Up to” specifications do not confirm what a retailer’s SKU includes.
- RAM: Check whether the laptop has 16GB installed, whether it is dual-channel, and whether memory is upgradeable. Factor upgrade cost into the price if it ships with 8GB.
- SSD and expansion: Prefer 1TB for a new gaming laptop. If choosing 512GB, confirm whether a second drive can be installed and whether that work is practical for you.
- Display: Verify resolution, panel type, refresh rate, brightness, and color specification for the exact SKU, not just the family’s best configuration.
- Cooling and power: Check reviews or manufacturer specifications for the chassis and GPU power limit. Expect to use the AC adapter for gaming and select the maker’s performance mode when you want full performance.
- Connectivity: If you plan to use an external monitor, check the relevant HDMI or USB-C port’s supported resolution and refresh rate, and whether it connects directly to the discrete GPU.
- Ownership details: Compare weight, adapter size, fan noise, keyboard, webcam, warranty, and return terms. These affect everyday use even when gaming performance is similar.
Settings and practical expectations
At 1080p, an RTX 4060 or better is a sensible basis for high-quality play, while an RTX 4050 is better suited to a budget-focused build that may need some settings adjustment. At 1600p or 2.5K, the additional pixels increase GPU demand; a faster GPU offers more flexibility, but settings may still need tuning to balance image quality and smoothness.
Ray tracing adds visual effects and workload. Enable it only if the resulting image and performance suit your preferences on the specific laptop. Upscaling features can help where supported by the game and configuration, but their availability and quality are not universal. A frame-rate cap can help keep frame delivery consistent and reduce unnecessary heat when the system can exceed the display’s useful refresh rate. Avoid treating any one setting or universal FPS figure as guaranteed across laptop models.
Mods can increase CPU, GPU, memory, and storage demands. They can also have their own compatibility and troubleshooting requirements, particularly when switching between single-player modded setups and GTA Online. For online play, allow for the game’s account, internet, launcher, activation, and entitlement-verification requirements described by Rockstar Support.
