That is a role-based reading of the season’s documented changes—not a measured ranking by pick rate or win rate. Takeover ran from February 11 to May 5, 2025, so this is a historical guide, not a recommendation for the current live meta.
Who were the best Legends in Season 24: Takeover?
EA’s Takeover patch notes put Ash and Ballistic “center stage” as the two Assault Legends receiving headline attention. The most useful way to choose between them is by what you want to do in a fight:

- Choose Ash for personal mobility, chasing a target, and creating or exploiting a close-range opening.
- Choose Ballistic when your squad plans to commit together and make use of his combat utility during a push.
These recommendations follow from the abilities and changes EA documented. The official sources do not establish a season-wide ranking based on player performance data.
Why Ash was a strong pick
Takeover improved several parts of Ash’s kit. Arc Snare became more reliable at the edge of its tether, and Phase Breach traveled farther and faster, with more reliable endpoint detection. Her new passive, Predator’s Pursuit, added an omnidirectional short-range dash.
#1 Best Overall
- SOLO & COOPERATIVE GAMEPLAY: The Solo & Cooperative Mode Expansion introduces the ability to play Apex Legends: The Board Game in single-player and cooperative modes for up to 2 players.
- AUTOMATED LEGENDS – THE AUTOMAS: Face off against an automated version of the six core Legends, known as the Automas, offering a challenging AI opponent to battle in both game modes.
- TWO GAME MODES INCLUDED: Enjoy both Battle Royale and Team Deathmatch modes, providing variety and new challenges in solo or cooperative play.
- INCREASED REPLAYABILITY: This expansion adds a fresh layer of excitement and replayability, allowing you to experience new tactical challenges and strategies every time you play.
- EXPANDS GAMEPLAY OPTIONS: Perfect for solo players or those looking for a cooperative experience, this expansion enhances Apex Legends: The Board Game with new ways to play and enjoy the game.
Together, those changes support Ash as a mobile entry and chase option: the dash can help her reposition in a close fight, while the updated tether and ultimate give her more ways to pursue or move around a target. That role assessment is an inference from the patch notes, not a measured result for the season.
Why Ballistic suited aggressive squads
Takeover folded some upgrades into Ballistic’s base kit, including an extra charge and Sling leveling. One Level 3 upgrade could double Whistler charges. Tempest gained a speed bonus, and the Sling could carry care-package weapons that received infinite ammo while Tempest was active.

Those changes made Ballistic a natural kit-based recommendation for a squad ready to push together and capitalize on Tempest. His strengths are more about disruption, weapon and ammunition utility, and team pressure than Ash’s personal repositioning. This is an interpretation of the documented kit, not evidence that Ballistic led the season’s statistics.
How the Assault changes affected fights
Season 24 added upgrades for Assault Legends and broadened the class’s fight-economy tools:
Rank #3
- EXCITING COMPETITIVE GAMEPLAY: Apex Legends: The Board Game is a fast-paced miniatures game designed for 2-6 players, where you can compete for victory using a variety of game modes and strategic gameplay.
- INCLUDES 6 ICONIC LEGENDS: The Core Box features 6 legendary characters from Apex Legends—Bangalore, Bloodhound, Gibraltar, Lifeline, Pathfinder, and Wraith—each with unique abilities and gameplay mechanics.
- ENDLESS REPLAYABILITY: With a variety of game modes, maps, and special features, this game offers unlimited combinations, ensuring no two games are ever the same.
- ALL-INCLUSIVE CORE BOX: The Core Box contains everything you need to start playing, including miniatures, character components, and other game pieces, making it easy to jump right into the action.
- STRATEGIC AND ENGAGING: Whether you’re playing with friends or family, Apex Legends: The Board Game offers deep tactical gameplay that will challenge your decision-making and keep you on your toes throughout every match.
- Combat Reserve added ammunition per stack and two grenade-only inventory slots.
- Stowed Reload automatically reloaded stowed weapons after two seconds.
- Battle Surge granted a speed burst and faster reloads, and highlighted an enemy for four seconds after the player broke that enemy’s shield.
EA also said it wanted encounters to resolve faster. During Takeover, armor earned through EVO was capped at Level 3, which required 1,700 EVO rather than 1,350; red armor was no longer earned by leveling and was instead available through the Mythic Armor Upgrade Helmet. These changes provide context for the season’s emphasis on timing and coordinated pushes, but they do not demonstrate that a particular Legend was statistically best.
Which one should you choose?
| If you value… | Takeover pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Personal mobility and target access | Ash | Her new short-range dash and improved tether and Phase Breach supported pursuit and repositioning. |
| Team pressure during a committed push | Ballistic | Tempest’s speed bonus and Sling changes offered utility for a squad taking advantage of its active window. |
| A proven pick for a particular mode or rank | Not established | The official sources document Takeover’s changes and playlist, but do not provide a mode-by-mode or rank-by-rank Legend performance comparison. |
The patch notes do not establish an objective skill floor for either Legend. Choose the kit you can use reliably and that fits your squad’s plan; the documented changes do not show that one dominated every mode or queue.

What the official record can—and cannot—say
EA’s official season archive identifies Takeover as Season 24, running February 11–May 5, 2025, and identifies Ash and Ballistic among the Legends buffed for the season. The official patch notes describe their kit changes and the Assault upgrades. Neither source supplies season-long pick rates, win rates, or competitive placement statistics, so a definitive data-backed tier list cannot be established from those records.
EA described the shift in its patch-note overview this way: “This new meta is cooking and it’s safe to say that this anniversary season flips the season of Support to one of aggression.” That is the developer’s framing of the update, not independent evidence that Ash or Ballistic ranked first.
