Best place for long-term storage: a home you own
Buying a home is the clearest general recommendation for keeping items, according to GamesRadar’s Oblivion Remastered house guide. A home gives you a convenient base for items you do not want to carry, and ownership is a stronger basis for a long-term stash than leaving valuables in an ordinary container elsewhere.
That recommendation does not establish that every container inside every home is safe. The available guide evidence does not confirm each individual home container’s persistence behavior, so avoid treating every chest or box as guaranteed storage simply because it is indoors or near a home.
Why ordinary containers are a risk
Bethesda Support warns in its general Oblivion guidance that barrels, chests, and boxes can have their contents randomized every few in-game hours. That warning is not explicitly specific to Oblivion Remastered, but it is a reason not to leave valuable items in an ordinary container unless you have verified that it is safe in your current game.

In practice, do not assume a container is permanent storage just because you can open it and put items inside. An ordinary container may be fine for a temporary transfer, but it is a poor choice for valuables you expect to recover later.
Safe containers before you own a home
Some containers are described as safe in Oblivion Remastered. Game8’s guide says safe containers do not despawn stored items and can be useful before buying a house. Its cited guidance does not provide a complete, verified list of locations, so there is no reliable basis here for naming a particular free container as safe.
If you plan to use a non-home container, confirm that the specific container is identified as safe for the Remastered edition rather than relying on a list for the original game. For especially valuable items, a home you own remains the more straightforward option.
