For a low-cost do-it-yourself setup, use an always-on virtual machine (VM) in India or a nearby region, store your video on persistent disk, and run FFmpeg to send the loop to the RTMPS ingest URL and stream key generated in YouTube Studio. This keeps your home computer off, but you still manage the server, encoder, monitoring, recovery and ongoing costs. There is not enough verified, comparable pricing here to name the cheapest India-region VM provider.
Which setup should you choose?
For a managed option, StreamNeo is the first service to consider: it loops uploaded video to YouTube from the cloud, so your computer can stay off, with any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot and a free first day.
For a do-it-yourself setup, a VM plus FFmpeg offers control and can avoid real-time transcoding when the source file is already encoded for your intended output. It also makes you responsible for keeping the process healthy and recovering it when something fails. Compare options on total cost, administration and recovery work, whether pre-encoded media can be relayed, region and ingest reliability, and whether you need an archive.
YouTube’s encoder directory lists Gyre as a cloud-based prerecorded 24/7 streaming tool, but current pricing was not established here, so it cannot be called cheaper. Google Cloud’s Live Stream API transcodes live linear inputs and saves outputs to Cloud Storage; that documented workflow is not the same as directly looping a file to YouTube, and is not an evident low-cost substitute for a simple encoder VM.

What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
- An always-on VM in India or a nearby region, plus persistent storage for the video. Check regional availability and the provider’s VM, disk, network-transfer or egress, and tax charges before committing.
- FFmpeg installed on the VM, and a video file with rights cleared for the intended live and archived use.
- The RTMPS stream URL and stream key generated for your YouTube stream. Keep the key private; do not use sample endpoints or keys from documentation for another streaming service.
Set up a looping stream with FFmpeg
1. Enable live streaming and create a stream
- In YouTube Studio, enable live streaming and complete any required verification or activation steps. Allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
- Create or schedule the live stream and select the encoder workflow. Copy the RTMPS server URL and stream key shown for that stream. Use YouTube’s values, not the Amazon IVS example URL or key in its FFmpeg streaming example; IVS is a different destination.
2. Prepare the VM and media
- Choose a VM region close to your likely viewers or a reliable YouTube ingest route, subject to availability. No measured regional performance or provider price comparison is available, so test your chosen VM rather than assuming proximity guarantees reliability.
- Put the video on persistent storage so a VM restart does not remove the source file. Confirm the disk has enough room and that the file can be read by the account running FFmpeg.
- Use a pre-encoded file that matches the resolution and frame rate you intend to send. YouTube lists H.264 as a supported video codec and recommends constant bitrate encoding, a two-second keyframe interval, and no more than four seconds between keyframes. Its recommended H.264 bitrates are 5 Mbps for 1080p30 and 3 Mbps for 720p30; these are ingest recommendations, not proof that a particular VM can economically encode those settings.
3. Run FFmpeg against YouTube’s endpoint
Use FFmpeg’s input-loop option to repeat the file, and configure output for YouTube’s RTMPS URL and your YouTube-generated stream key. The exact command depends on the file’s codecs and whether you are copying streams or transcoding; do not paste a sample IVS endpoint or key into a YouTube command. If the file already matches the target output, stream copying can avoid real-time transcoding. If it does not, encoding adds CPU demand and another potential failure point.
For H.264, align the output with YouTube’s guidance: constant bitrate, a two-second keyframe interval (never over four seconds), and an appropriate bitrate for the selected resolution and frame rate. See YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate recommendations. Validate the full stream in YouTube Studio before relying on it; a successful FFmpeg process alone does not establish healthy ingest or playback.

4. Monitor the stream and plan recovery
Watch YouTube Studio’s stream health after starting. Arrange for the VM to restart the FFmpeg process if it exits, and monitor both the process and the live stream; a running VM does not guarantee that the encoder or ingest connection is healthy. You remain responsible for diagnosing and restarting failures. Test restart behavior before treating the setup as unattended.
Keep costs predictable
The VM rental is only part of the bill. Add persistent storage, network transfer or egress, and applicable taxes; a larger instance may also be needed if you transcode instead of relaying an already suitable file. Compare providers using the same region, storage size, expected outbound traffic, billing period and tax assumptions. Current, comparable India-region totals were not established, so no specific provider or plan can be responsibly named the cheapest.

Protect the channel and any archive
Clear rights for everything in the stream
YouTube’s terms say, “The Live Content must comply with the YouTube Community Guidelines.” They also require creators to hold the rights needed for worldwide exploitation of live and archived content, including music rights, and to follow applicable laws and licensing requirements. Owning or having permission to use a video does not automatically establish the necessary rights for every song, performance or other element in it. Review the livestream terms and use the copyright safety checklist before going live.

Do not assume a repeating stream qualifies for monetization
YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams. Its 2025 clarification renamed the repetitious-content rule to inauthentic content and says mass-produced or repetitive content can be ineligible; reviewers may assess the channel as a whole. A loop does not guarantee monetizable watch time or channel eligibility. Read YouTube’s channel monetization policies.
Plan around the archive limit
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If preserving the YouTube archive matters, end and restart before reaching 12 hours, and keep a separate recording backup. See YouTube’s archive guidance.

Common problems and fixes
- The stream will not start: Confirm live streaming is activated, the correct stream is open in Studio, and the RTMPS URL and key are the ones YouTube generated for it. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
- YouTube reports poor stream health: Check the output bitrate, resolution, frame rate and keyframe interval against YouTube’s recommendations, then inspect network stability and VM capacity. A bitrate recommendation is not a guarantee that a particular server or connection can sustain it.
- The video stops repeating: Check FFmpeg’s loop configuration, file path, disk persistence and process logs. Arrange and test an automatic process restart; do not assume the VM will recover the encoder by itself.
- The VM restarts but the stream stays offline: Verify that the encoder starts after reboot and can read the media and access the stream key. Test the full recovery sequence while you can monitor YouTube Studio.
- The archive is missing or incomplete: Check whether the stream exceeded 12 hours. End and restart before that point when an archive matters, and retain a separate recording backup.
- A stream or channel receives a rights or monetization issue: Review permissions for every included recording, song and performance, then check YouTube’s terms and monetization rules. A loop or permission to use only the video does not settle all rights questions.
