For recorded coaching lessons, begin at 720p/30 fps, check that your measured upload speed has enough headroom, and test the whole setup before leaving it unattended. Keep a local recording if you need a dependable replay: YouTube says a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. This approach keeps initial spending low, but a home computer and connection do not guarantee uninterrupted 24/7 operation.
What you need for a low-cost coaching stream
You do not need a new production computer or expensive studio equipment to begin. YouTube’s live-streaming tips say, “You do not need expensive equipment, what you have at hand will do.” Start by testing the computer, network and recording files you already have, then buy equipment only to address a problem you have actually found.
- A computer: It must play the lesson and run OBS continuously without overheating or dropping frames. No particular computer specification is established for every prerecorded workload, so test your actual machine and files.
- OBS: Use it to send the recorded lesson to YouTube as an encoder stream.
- Stable upload bandwidth: Measure upload speed where and when the computer will stream. Download speed alone does not tell you whether the outgoing stream will be stable.
- Storage: Keep enough free space for the local recording you intend to retain. Capacity depends on recording quality and duration.
- Optional microphone: A USB microphone is useful if you will speak live over the lesson or record live introductions. It is not necessary for a stream that only plays finished lesson files.
- Optional UPS: A UPS for the computer and router may help with brief power interruptions. The required capacity and runtime depend on your equipment load.
For a spoken coaching stream, prioritize clear, intelligible audio over a high frame rate. For slide-heavy lessons, check that the text remains readable at the resolution you choose.
Prepare the channel and connect OBS to YouTube
- Check live-stream eligibility. Verify the YouTube channel for live streaming and make sure it has no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days.
- Create or select a stream. In YouTube Live Control Room, create a stream or select the one you intend to use. Copy the stream key and stream URL into OBS’s YouTube/streaming connection settings.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like access information for broadcasting to your channel. Do not post it publicly or include it in a screen recording. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube before continuing.
- Set up the recorded lesson. Add the lesson video as an OBS media source. For a single lesson file intended to repeat, enable that source’s loop option. If you have several lessons, arrange the files in the desired order and test how the chosen OBS source or playlist workflow advances between them. Do not assume a playlist or restart behavior is working until you have watched it run through a full cycle.
- Preview before going live. Check the video, audio meters, lesson order and stream health in OBS and YouTube. Confirm that spoken instruction is audible and that no private desktop notifications or unrelated windows are being broadcast.
- Start and monitor a test. Go live for a short test and check the viewer-side playback as well as OBS’s dropped-frame indicators and YouTube’s stream health. Test the full lesson loop, not just the opening seconds.
Choose video and audio settings that your connection can sustain
YouTube’s current H.264 encoder guidance recommends 3 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps and 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps. Those are platform recommendations, not guarantees that a particular computer or internet connection will perform well. For a lesson dominated by slides, try 720p/30 fps first and check text readability. Move to 1080p only when fine text or camera detail benefits and your connection remains stable. YouTube transcodes incoming streams for viewers, so a high-resolution source is not required just to provide viewers with playback choices.

| Setting | Starting guidance | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution and frame rate | 720p at 30 fps | Good first test for slides and standard talking-head lessons; confirm text is readable. |
| H.264 video bitrate | 3 Mbps at 720p/30 fps | YouTube’s recommended live ingest bitrate for this format. |
| Higher-resolution option | 1080p at 30 fps; 5 Mbps H.264 | Use if smaller text or more image detail needs it and upload capacity is sufficient. |
| Rate control | CBR | YouTube recommends constant bitrate for live encoding. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds; no more than 4 seconds | Set this in OBS’s output/encoder settings. |
| Audio format | AAC or MP3 | YouTube’s guidance lists these audio codecs. Confirm the audio source and levels in a test. |
Leave upload headroom above the total stream bitrate. YouTube recommends roughly 20% extra, with additional room for other network traffic or a backup stream. As planning arithmetic, 3 Mbps at 720p/30 fps calls for at least 3.6 Mbps of measured upload capacity before other household use; 5 Mbps at 1080p/30 fps calls for at least 6 Mbps. These figures are minimum planning examples based on the recommended bitrate plus 20%, not guarantees of stability. Run a speed test at the intended time and place, and preferably connect the computer by Ethernet where practical.
Protect the replay and plan for streams longer than 12 hours
Do not depend on one uninterrupted 24-hour YouTube broadcast to create a complete replay. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while longer streams may not be captured at all. Its archive guidance warns: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” If replay access matters, schedule shorter sessions, verify each archive in YouTube Studio, and make a local recording.

- Enable and monitor local recording in OBS. Before the long run, record a test locally and check that the file grows while recording.
- Play the test file back. Confirm video, audio and lesson order before relying on it as your backup.
- Check available storage. The required disk space varies with recording settings and how long you retain recordings; the right capacity cannot be determined without those details.
- Plan session boundaries. If you need YouTube archives, end and restart the broadcast in shorter planned sessions, then check that each archive is available.
YouTube’s August 12, 2026 Creator Liaison explanation distinguishes qualified watch hours from archived livestreams and streams that are not archived. Check the channel’s status in Studio rather than assuming a continuous day-long stream will produce an archive or qualified watch hours.
Check copyright and monetization before looping lessons
Only broadcast material you have the rights to use, including music, video clips, images and course materials. A live wrapper does not itself establish that a recording is original, cleared for broadcast or eligible for monetization. YouTube’s monetization policy covers repetitive or mass-produced material under its “inauthentic content” policy; repeated coaching recordings may therefore face monetization review risk. The result depends on the channel and content, so no channel-specific outcome can be promised. Make the stream substantively useful and original, and review YouTube’s current policy before relying on ad revenue.

Troubleshoot the common failure points
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Stream drops frames or looks unstable | Upload capacity is insufficient, shared traffic is consuming bandwidth, or the computer cannot encode reliably. | Recheck measured upload speed at stream time; reduce the bitrate or return to 720p/30 fps; use Ethernet if practical; close competing network use; inspect OBS dropped frames and system load. |
| YouTube does not receive the stream | Incorrect or stale stream key/URL, a channel eligibility issue, or OBS is not sending the configured stream. | Confirm the stream is selected in Live Control Room, carefully re-enter the current key and URL in OBS, and verify channel live-stream eligibility. |
| Lesson ends and playback goes blank or stops | The source is not set to loop, or the playlist’s end-of-list behavior is not configured as expected. | Review the media source’s loop setting and test the complete lesson sequence while monitoring the viewer-side output. |
| Audio is silent, too quiet or distorted | The wrong audio source is selected, a source is muted, or its level is unsuitable. | Check OBS audio meters and mute controls, then listen to a local test recording and the YouTube preview. |
| There is no complete YouTube replay | The stream ran longer than 12 hours or the archive was otherwise not available. | Check YouTube Studio; use local recording and shorter planned sessions when replay access matters. |
| Stream stops during a power or internet interruption | The local computer or router lost power, the connection failed, or the encoder did not resume. | Test the actual restart process before unattended use. Consider a UPS only if brief local outages are a real issue. The cited guidance does not guarantee OBS will recover from every network or power failure. |
Keep the setup low-cost without mistaking cheap for dependable
If you already own a suitable computer and have enough upload capacity, OBS has the lowest additional cost because there is no new streaming computer requirement in this setup. The trade-off is that the computer, power, network and restart process remain your responsibility. Buy a microphone only to improve live speech; consider backup power only after identifying the outage you need it to bridge. No fixed rupee budget is reliable here because equipment prices, broadband plans, electricity costs and required recording storage vary and were not established.
