If you want a phone game with Monster Hunter Rise’s real-time hunts and gear-crafting loop, Monster Hunter Now is the closest currently available match. It adapts hunting to real-world exploration and short, tap-controlled encounters rather than offering a conventional Rise-style campaign. Monster Hunter Stories is a different, RPG-focused option, while Monster Hunter Outlanders is scheduled to launch on October 29, 2026, and is not yet playable as of October 7, 2026.
Which mobile game is most like Monster Hunter Rise?
Monster Hunter Now is the strongest verified choice for players seeking action hunts followed by weapon and armor crafting. Capcom describes the series as “hunting action games that pit players against giant monsters in beautiful natural environments”; Now brings that core idea to phones, but anchors exploration to the real world. Capcom said it launched worldwide for iOS and Android on September 14, 2023, as a free-to-play real-world hunting action RPG with in-app purchases. Capcom’s launch announcement also reported more than 3 million preregistered players at launch—a historical preregistration figure, not a current player count.

How the three Monster Hunter phone options compare
| Game | Status on October 7, 2026 | What carries over from Rise | Main difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monster Hunter Now | Available on iOS and Android; check your local store for availability and device requirements. | Real-time monster hunts, solo and group play, and crafting weapons and armor from materials. | Location-based exploration, tap controls, and short encounters. |
| Monster Hunter Stories | Current smartphone listing; check local availability and device requirements. | Monster Hunter setting and monsters. | RPG focused on recruiting and bonding with monsters, not a direct action-hunt replacement. |
| Monster Hunter Outlanders | Announced for October 29, 2026; upcoming as of October 7. | Capcom describes it as mobile hunting action with exploration and monster hunts. | It has not launched yet; availability and compatibility need checking after release. |
Monster Hunter Now: best for quick mobile hunts
The current Google Play listing describes large-monster hunts as having a 75-second target and supports solo and group play, with materials used for crafting. Treat 75 seconds as the listing’s design target, not a measured average or a guarantee that every hunt ends at that time. The official Monster Hunter Now site currently says there are over 50 monsters to hunt; the roster can change.
This format suits players who want to fit a hunt into a short break and do not mind going out into the real world to find encounters. It is less suitable if you want a self-contained campaign or expect the longer, more deliberate controls and combat flow of Rise. The phone version simplifies controls for touch, and its hunting loop is built around location-based play.
#1 Best Overall
- The debut of the new “wirebug” mechanic allows for wire-based grappling actions that can be used to scale cliffs and other hard-to-reach areas, providing new traversal and aerial attack options.
- The game will introduce magnamalo, a menacing new flagship monster, as well as other new monsters like the shape-shifting aknosom, the amphibious tetranadon, and more.
- New hunting partners called palamutes can be personalized and used to ride across the terrain, providing players with all-new traveling and attack options.
- In addition to the plethora of solo and multiplayer quests, the immersive story mode will task aspiring hunters with discovering the secrets behind the puzzling “rampage” events that threaten kamura village.
- Play solo, or join up to three other hunters in local or online co-op play. The Nintendo Switch system also allows for hunting anywhere, anytime and with anyone!
Monster Hunter Stories: choose it for an RPG, not Rise-style combat
Monster Hunter Stories offers a mobile way into the franchise, but its appeal is role-playing, recruiting monsters, and building bonds with them—not replacing Rise’s real-time action hunts. The Google Play listing says the smartphone edition carries the handheld version’s story while omitting some features. It also states that Network Battle ceased to be available on March 31, 2020.
Monster Hunter Outlanders: wait for the announced launch
Capcom announced Monster Hunter Outlanders for iOS and Android on October 29, 2026. Its description calls it “Survival Hunting Action” and highlights exploration, monster hunting alongside companions, and controls optimized for mobile. Since that date is after October 7, 2026, it is an upcoming option, not a game readers can download today. Capcom says the mainland Chinese version is scheduled from 2027 onward; other regional availability and device compatibility should be confirmed after launch. See Capcom’s announcement.

How to choose
- Pick Monster Hunter Now for currently available phone-based action hunts, crafting, and solo or group play, provided you are comfortable with location-based outdoor play.
- Pick Monster Hunter Stories if you want a Monster Hunter RPG centered on monsters and their bonds, rather than direct action combat.
- Watch for Monster Hunter Outlanders if its announced mobile hunting-action approach appeals to you, but wait until launch to confirm availability in your country and compatibility with your phone.
Availability and pricing can vary by country. The evidence here confirms these three relevant mobile options, not a complete list of every hunting game in every regional store. Capcom reported more than 131 million Monster Hunter series units shipped worldwide as of June 30, 2026; that franchise-wide cumulative figure is not mobile-game sales.
