For most groups, the practical shortlist is Apex Hosting, BisectHosting, Sparked Host, GTX Gaming, Shockbyte, PebbleHost, Mint Servers, Space-Node and Play Your Way. Start with a plan that can provide roughly 6–8 GB of RAM, then confirm that the server is actually in Sydney, the installer supports your modpack, and the measured ping from your city is acceptable.

Modded Minecraft is more demanding than an unmodified vanilla server because the server must load additional code, world-generation rules, entities and configuration files. The most useful comparison is therefore not the lowest headline price. It is the amount of usable RAM at your target pack size, the distance to the data centre, and how reliably the host can install, back up and support the exact pack you intend to run.
RAM at the pack size you actually need
Crafty’s Australian hosting guide says a modpack typically needs approximately 6–8 GB of RAM. Treat that as a starting tier, not a promise that every pack or player count will fit. Large automation packs, heavy world generation and many simultaneous players can require more; a small pack with a few friends may use less. Compare plans at the same RAM amount instead of comparing a 1 GB entry plan with a rival’s 8 GB offer.

Australian location and real latency
Sydney is the only Australian data-centre city that the sources explicitly list for multiple providers. No retrieved source confirmed a Melbourne data centre. Mint Servers markets Sydney-hosted servers to Melbourne players, but that is a marketing claim rather than independent latency evidence. A Sydney location can still feel different from Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth or Adelaide because your ISP’s route and evening congestion matter, so test from the connection your players will use.
Installation, protection and support
Look for a one-click modpack installer that names the distribution you need, such as CurseForge or Modrinth, and that lets you select the exact Minecraft and loader version. Backups, DDoS mitigation and support availability reduce the impact of a failed update or a damaged world. Confirm what is included: “backups available” might mean a manual snapshot rather than an automatic off-site schedule.
Shortlist: Australian options worth checking
The table separates what the cited sources actually establish from assumptions you should verify. “Sydney listed” means a source named Sydney; it does not guarantee that every plan or every game node uses that city.
| Host | Location evidence | Modded-server evidence | Indicative pricing reported | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Apex Hosting | Sydney listed by Crafty | Tech Guide describes one-click pack installation, regular off-site backups, DDoS protection, instant setup and 24/7 help | $7.49/month in Space-Node’s comparison table | No current per-GB rate was found; verify the plan’s included RAM and Australian node at checkout |
| BisectHosting | Sydney listed by Crafty and Space-Node | Space-Node lists modpack support | $3/GB monthly in Tech Guide; $2.99/month in Space-Node’s table | The figures conflict and may describe different plans or dates |
| Sparked Host | Sydney listed by Crafty and on its Australia page | Australia-focused Minecraft plans; confirm the pack installer and loader before purchase | 1 GB $1.00/month; 2 GB $2.00/month; 16 GB $16.00/month | The listed examples imply linear per-GB pricing, but check whether taxes, storage or extras change the total |
| GTX Gaming | Sydney/Australian data centres listed; Sydney also appears in Crafty’s comparison | One-click modpack installers; plans labelled for modding from 4 GB | 1 GB A$3.72/month; 16 GB A$61.21/month; 20 GB A$86.28/month | An 8 GB price was not stated, so calculate only from a current quote |
| Shockbyte | Sydney listed by Space-Node | Space-Node lists modpack support | $1.99 budget and $2.99 standard in Tech Guide; $2.50/month in Space-Node’s table | These conflicting figures require especially careful checking of RAM, billing term and currency |
| PebbleHost | DatHost’s ranking says it has Sydney infrastructure | Presented there as suitable for a modded community | £1/GB budget in Tech Guide | The Sydney claim comes from one ranking page and was not independently confirmed in the other cited lists |
| Mint Servers | Sydney listed; its page markets the service to Brisbane and Melbourne players | Confirm the specific modpack and installer in the plan details | Flat plans from $9.99/month | “From” pricing does not identify the RAM allocation |
| Space-Node | Sydney node listed by Space-Node and Crafty | Modpack support and DDoS protection listed | Minecraft from €0.90/GB | Currency conversion, taxes and the exact Australian capacity can change the total |
| Play Your Way | Australian city not established in the retrieved material | Minecraft plans priced per gigabyte | From $3.75/month; an 8 GB server is four times the price of a 2 GB server | Confirm the physical location and the RAM tier behind the starting price |
Crafty also names MCHostingPro and Qonzer as having Sydney locations, but the available material does not establish their current modpack plans, pricing or installer support. They are therefore leads to investigate rather than recommendations.

How the leading choices differ
Best fit when installation convenience is the priority
Apex Hosting is the option most directly associated with a complete modpack workflow in the available coverage. Tech Guide names it its best overall modpack pick and specifically cites one-click installation, off-site backups, DDoS protection, instant setup and 24/7 support. That is a useful feature combination for an owner who does not want to upload files manually. The $7.49 figure shown by Space-Node is not enough to judge value by itself because the corresponding RAM amount and billing conditions are not stated.
Best fit for comparing per-gigabyte plans
BisectHosting, Sparked Host, GTX Gaming, PebbleHost and Space-Node publish figures that can be examined against a 6–8 GB requirement. Sparked’s listed 1 GB, 2 GB and 16 GB examples are easy to scale mathematically, while GTX gives concrete 1 GB, 16 GB and 20 GB Australian-dollar tiers. Space-Node’s €0.90/GB starting figure is the lowest-looking unit price in the material, but a euro price is not directly comparable with an Australian-dollar total and may exclude extras.

Best fit for a low headline price
Shockbyte appears in budget comparisons, with reported prices ranging from $1.99 to $2.99 and another table showing $2.50. Those figures are not interchangeable: the sources do not establish whether they refer to the same RAM, currency, billing term or promotion. Play Your Way starts at $3.75 per month and explicitly scales by gigabyte, while Mint Servers starts at $9.99 on a flat-plan basis. Compare the RAM behind each starting point before treating any as cheap for a real modpack.
Best fit when a Sydney claim needs extra scrutiny
PebbleHost is described by DatHost as having Sydney infrastructure suited to modded-community latency, but that location was not confirmed by the other retrieved comparisons. It can remain on a test list, yet you should request the exact node address and run a latency check before moving an established world.

How to choose a plan step by step
- Write down the exact pack. Record the pack name, Minecraft version, Forge/Fabric/NeoForge loader, Java requirement and whether you will add server-side mods. A host cannot reliably confirm compatibility from “modded Minecraft” alone.
- Set a RAM floor. Use 6–8 GB as the initial target indicated by Crafty’s guide. If the provider sells only 1–4 GB tiers, do not assume a low price will run your pack; ask what RAM is reserved for Java and what remains for the operating system and panel.
- Filter for a Sydney node. Ask support to identify the city for the exact plan, not merely the company’s Australian presence. A provider may sell several games or tiers from different facilities.
- Verify the installer. Check that the panel lists your pack or supports a compatible CurseForge/Modrinth import, and that you can pin the required version. Ask whether custom server-side files can be uploaded if the pack is not in the catalogue.
- Price the complete configuration. Put the same RAM, storage, backups and billing period into each cart. Record the currency and whether the displayed number is promotional, monthly recurring or a one-time setup charge. The published comparisons contain conflicting figures, so do not rely on a third-party table as the final price.
- Confirm recovery features. Ask how often automatic backups run, where they are stored, how many restore points are retained and whether you can download a copy. Confirm the process for restoring a world after a failed mod update.
- Measure the route from your players. Obtain a test server address or use a trial if the provider offers one; no trial or money-back policy was established for the hosts in the supplied material. Run the commands below from representative Australian connections, preferably at the evening time when your group plays.
- Run a short compatibility test. Install the pack, let the world generate new terrain, connect with the intended client versions and watch memory use and tick performance for at least one busy session before inviting a larger group.
Testing ping from Australia
Ping measures round-trip network time, not server performance. A low number cannot compensate for a server that runs out of RAM, and a moderate number may be perfectly playable for a cooperative group. Test the actual hostname or IP supplied for your chosen node; testing a company website measures a different route.
Windows
ping -n 20 your-server-hostname
macOS or Linux
ping -c 20 your-server-hostname
Record the average and the highest result, plus any packet loss. Repeat from at least one Melbourne, one Brisbane and one other player connection if those cities are represented in your group. In Minecraft, the multiplayer server list also shows a connection-bar indicator after the server responds, but it should supplement rather than replace repeated command-line measurements.
Budgeting the 6–8 GB tier
Per-GB pricing makes the apparent cheapest host different from the cheapest suitable host. For example, Sparked Host’s published 16 GB price is $16 per month and its 1 GB and 2 GB examples are $1 and $2; that suggests an 8 GB configuration would be $8 if the same linear schedule applies, but the provider’s current cart is the authority. Space-Node’s €0.90/GB starting rate would equal €7.20 at 8 GB before any currency conversion or add-ons, while PebbleHost’s £1/GB budget figure would equal £8. These are arithmetic illustrations, not confirmed quotes for a particular pack.
GTX Gaming publishes 16 GB at A$61.21 and 20 GB at A$86.28, alongside a 1 GB price of A$3.72. Because no 8 GB figure is stated, do not interpolate between tiers; hosts often use non-linear discounts or different plan families. Play Your Way states that 8 GB costs four times its 2 GB server, but the supplied material does not state the 2 GB price separately from the “from $3.75/month” headline. BisectHosting and Shockbyte have conflicting third-party prices, so their totals need a live checkout check.

Common failure modes and fixes
The server crashes while loading a pack
First confirm that the server and every client use the same Minecraft version, loader and pack release. Read the console for a missing dependency or Java-version error before increasing RAM. If the log shows memory exhaustion after compatibility is correct, move from the lower end of the 6–8 GB starting range to a larger tier and test world generation again.

Separate network latency from server tick lag. Compare the command-line ping with the panel’s CPU, memory and tick statistics while the problem occurs. Stable ping with delayed actions usually points to server load, world generation or a mod conflict; fluctuating ping or packet loss points to the route between players and the node. Capture timestamps and console warnings before contacting support.
The panel’s one-click installer does not contain the pack
Ask whether the host supports a manual CurseForge or Modrinth import, a supported server-pack ZIP, or direct file access. Do not upload a client-only pack unchanged: remove client-exclusive mods and follow the pack author’s server instructions. Take a backup before each manual update so you can restore the previous working files.
A world becomes unusable after an update
Stop the server rather than repeatedly restarting it. Restore the last known-good backup, record the changed mod versions and test the update on a copy. This is why the backup schedule, off-site location and retention period matter more than a generic “backup included” label.

Players in Melbourne see inconsistent results
Do not infer a Melbourne data centre from a provider’s Australian branding. Re-run tests at peak time, compare several ISPs and ask support which Sydney facility serves the selected plan. If packet loss persists, request a different node or choose a provider that can demonstrate a better route for your group.
What is confirmed—and what is not
- Sydney is repeatedly listed as an Australian location; a Melbourne data centre was not confirmed in the retrieved sources.
- Crafty’s guide puts a typical modpack around 6–8 GB of RAM, but it does not define a universal player count or pack size for that range.
- Third-party price tables disagree for Shockbyte and BisectHosting, and the available figures for several hosts lack a stated date or complete plan specification.
- No trial period or money-back guarantee was verified for any host in the available material.
- Current Apex Hosting and BisectHosting per-GB rates were not established.
- The current modpack offerings of MCHostingPro and Qonzer were not checked beyond their Sydney listings.
- No measured latency result from Melbourne or another Australian city was supplied; your own tests remain necessary.
A practical decision rule
Choose Apex Hosting first if its current Sydney plan gives your pack the required RAM and its one-click, backup and support features are included at a price you accept. Put BisectHosting, Sparked Host, GTX Gaming and Space-Node into the same comparison when per-GB economics or explicit modpack tooling matters. Check Shockbyte and Play Your Way for budget pricing only after matching RAM and location, and treat PebbleHost’s Sydney claim as something to verify. Mint Servers is worth testing when a flat monthly plan suits your group, while MCHostingPro and Qonzer require more information before a meaningful comparison is possible.
Whichever host you select, make the final decision from a current quote, a confirmed Sydney node, a successful installation of your exact pack and ping results collected from your players’ real connections.
