Australian game-server hosts at a glance
The table uses the lowest figures found in current vendor or comparison listings. Currencies are left in the form advertised; they are not directly comparable until converted and checked at checkout. “Starting price” does not mean the same hardware, player count or billing term on every host.

|---|---|---|---|
| GTX Gaming | Sydney | Minecraft A$3.72/mo; Valheim 10-slot A$22.92/mo | Valheim tiers, Minecraft, 175+ games |

What matters more than the headline price
Server city and the route to your players
Sydney is the most frequently listed Australian location, but it is not automatically best for every group. A Melbourne node may reduce the route for Victorian players; Brisbane or Adelaide can be preferable when most players live near those cities. Empower Servers is the only host in this shortlist that lists all four cities. A server in Singapore can still be usable for northern Australian players, but it is not an Australian-located server and should not be treated as equivalent.
RAM, CPU and whether resources are shared
Two plans with the same player-slot limit can perform very differently. Shared RAM and oversubscribed CPUs keep prices low but can produce tick-rate drops when neighbouring customers become busy. Dedicated or reserved resources cost more but make performance more predictable. Ask the host whether the RAM is guaranteed, which CPU generation is used, and whether CPU limits are per-server or shared across a node.

Game edition, mods and backups
For Minecraft, confirm Java versus Bedrock support before ordering. Modded packs need substantially more memory than a small vanilla world. For Valheim, check crossplay, BepInEx or other mod-loader support, automated backups and restore access. ARK is generally more resource-intensive than a basic Minecraft server, so a low slot count does not necessarily mean a low-resource requirement.
What the price actually includes
Compare the complete checkout total in AUD, including tax, setup charges, extra storage, a reserved IP address, backups and a control-panel fee. A bare-metal dedicated server is a different product from a managed game plan: it may give you more control, but you are responsible for operating-system updates, firewalling and game-server installation.
Provider-by-provider guide
GTX Gaming: clearest Valheim option in Australia
GTX Gaming lists a Sydney location and says Valheim can be deployed in 16 locations, including Sydney. Its listed 10-slot vanilla Valheim plan includes 10GB of RAM for A$22.92 per month. Valheim Plus tiers are listed at A$67.95 for 24 slots with 16GB, A$97.13 for 32 slots with 24GB, and A$170.81 for 64 slots with 32GB. The figures are vendor-listed and should be rechecked at checkout.
The same host lists Minecraft’s 1GB Dirt plan at A$3.72 per month, a 4GB Iron plan at A$15.25, and modded Minecraft from 6GB at A$22.88. It advertises crossplay, BepInEx mod support and daily backups for Valheim. GTX also advertises more than 175 games in Sydney, useful if your group rotates between survival titles.

Shockbyte: low entry price and broad catalogue
Shockbyte is Melbourne-based and lists more than 70 games, including Minecraft, ARK, Valheim and Rust. Minecraft is listed from $2.99 per month; one comparison listing shows $2.50 with a Sydney location. Because the two figures and locations come from different listings, confirm both the currency and the node in the order screen.
Shockbyte makes sense when Minecraft price and multi-game breadth matter more than a documented RAM or CPU guarantee. For a modded world or an ARK cluster, obtain the exact memory allocation and CPU policy before relying on the lowest advertised tier.
BisectHosting: straightforward Sydney listings
BisectHosting’s Sydney location page lists Minecraft Java from $5.99 per month and Valheim from $5.99 per month. Those starting figures do not establish equal resources between the two games, so compare RAM, storage, backups and slot limits line by line. It is a practical candidate for a group that wants one Australian city and a conventional game-server control panel.
Empower Servers: widest choice of Australian cities
Empower Servers lists Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide, plus more than 30 games such as Minecraft, Rust, ARK, Palworld and Valheim. No price was available in the supplied listings. Its main advantage is geographic choice: select the city closest to the majority of players, then request a complete quote showing guaranteed memory, CPU limits, storage and backup terms.
MintServers: Sydney-only higher-tier range
MintServers lists a Sydney datacentre and says its Sydney plans are Unlimited, Unlimited+ and MAX rather than the smaller entry tiers available in some regions. The entry listing is $9.99 per month in USD. The provider says players in Brisbane and Melbourne should receive low ping, but that statement should be validated from your own networks. The USD price must be converted and checked for taxes or payment surcharges.
Dedicated Gaming: tiny Minecraft plans through bare metal
Dedicated Gaming lists Equinix Sydney facilities SY3 and SY4. Its Minecraft range starts at $4.00 per month for 2–5 players with 512MB of RAM and reaches $57.00 per month for 100 players. The currency is not stated in the listing, so do not assume that these are Australian dollars. It also lists dedicated servers from $99 per month; those are bare-metal servers, not a comparable managed game plan.
512MB can suit only a very small, lightly modified Minecraft world. Expect to need more memory for multiple players exploring new chunks, large view distances or modpacks.

Apex Hosting: Sydney Minecraft with regional pricing
Apex Hosting is listed with a Sydney datacentre and a Minecraft starting price of $7.49 per month in a comparison listing. The vendor says regional pricing is included without a surcharge. Confirm the currency, included RAM, player limit and whether the Sydney location is selectable on the plan you purchase.
Space-Node: inexpensive Sydney hardware listing
Space-Node lists a Sydney node built on an AMD Ryzen 9 5950X with NVMe storage and DDoS protection, from €2.70 per month. The euro price is not directly comparable with an Australian-dollar quote, and the listing does not establish the RAM or player limit attached to that starting tier. Ask for those details before choosing it for a busy or modded server.
Best choices by game
Minecraft
Minecraft has the broadest Australian selection. The lowest advertised entry points are roughly $2.50–$4 per month among Shockbyte, Dedicated Gaming and GTX Gaming, but their currencies, locations, memory and player limits differ. For a small vanilla Java group, compare the actual RAM and CPU allowance rather than choosing solely by price. For modded Minecraft, start by identifying the modpack’s recommended memory, then add headroom for world generation and backups; GTX’s listed modded tier begins at 6GB, illustrating how quickly the requirement rises.
Confirm whether you need Java, Bedrock or both, whether automatic restarts can be scheduled, and whether you can download a full world backup. A plan that is cheap for four vanilla players may become poor value once you add a modpack, larger view distance or frequent backups.
Recommended Free Tools
Valheim
GTX Gaming is the clearest Australia-located Valheim choice with published slot, RAM and price tiers. Its 10-slot vanilla listing provides 10GB; the Valheim Plus tiers increase both slots and memory, reaching 64 slots and 32GB at the highest listed tier. Check that the mod loader and crossplay mode you need are supported before migrating an existing world. Daily backups matter because a corrupted save or accidental world change can otherwise be irreversible.
BisectHosting also lists Valheim from $5.99 per month in Sydney, but the listing does not provide the same detailed tier information. Compare the included memory, backup retention and mod support before treating its lower entry number as like-for-like.
ARK
Empower Servers and Shockbyte list ARK, but no Australian ARK price was retrieved. ARK generally demands more memory and CPU than a small Minecraft server, particularly with large maps, mods, many structures or several simultaneous players. Ask for a recommended RAM level for your map and mod set, whether CPU time is capped, and how often the host snapshots saves. Do not infer suitability from a cheap Minecraft plan on the same provider.

How to test Australian latency before committing
Vendor phrases such as “low ping” and “under 20ms” are not guarantees. Latency varies by state, ISP, Wi-Fi, time of day and the route to the datacentre. Use a trial, an address supplied by the host or its latency test where available.
- List each player’s city, ISP and usual connection type. A server that is excellent for Sydney may be less consistent for Perth or regional areas.
- Ask support for the exact city and a test IP or hostname for the intended node. Do not test a generic website endpoint and assume it represents the game machine.
- Run repeated pings at busy evening hours and again during the day. Record average latency, the highest spikes and packet loss rather than looking at a single minimum.
- Join a trial server and perform the actions that stress your game: generate new Minecraft chunks, sail between Valheim regions or load the ARK map with your normal mod set.
- Repeat after enabling voice chat, mods and scheduled backups. A stable idle ping does not prove stable tick rate under load.
- Keep the result as your baseline. If the purchased server is materially worse, provide the timestamps and packet-loss figures when requesting a node move or refund under the host’s policy.
Ping is only one part of responsiveness. CPU contention can cause delayed entity updates even when network latency is low, while packet loss can make a moderate ping feel worse than a stable higher value.
Budget planning without false comparisons
Make a worksheet with these columns before ordering: advertised currency, converted AUD total, billing term, setup fee, tax, RAM, CPU policy, storage type and size, player or slot limit, backup retention, DDoS protection, mod support and cancellation terms. Fill “not stated” when a listing does not provide a value; an unknown specification is not evidence that it is included.
Separate one-time and recurring charges. A promotional first month can look cheaper than a recurring monthly rate, while an annual commitment can hide the cost of leaving early. Also check whether extra RAM, a larger disk or an additional database is billed separately.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFor small Minecraft groups, 512MB may be enough only for a minimal world and a handful of players. Modpacks, high simulation distance and rapid exploration increase memory use. Valheim and ARK worlds also grow over time, so leave storage and backup headroom instead of sizing exactly to day one.

- Choose the city that minimizes the players’ measured latency, not merely the host’s country label.
- Confirm the game edition, version and mod-loader compatibility.
- Read the plan’s guaranteed RAM and CPU limits; identify whether resources are shared.
- Check storage, automatic backups, restore procedure and retention period.
- Enable DDoS protection and account-level two-factor authentication where offered.
- Set an automated restart schedule outside your group’s normal play hours.
- Upload a test copy of the world and verify that players can connect before migrating the live save.
- Measure CPU, memory and tick-rate behaviour with the expected number of players online.
- Keep an independent copy of the world file. A provider backup is not a substitute for a backup you control.
- Record the renewal price and cancellation deadline in your calendar.
Common problems and fixes
Players still see high ping
Verify that the server actually resides in the selected Australian city; some panels default to an offshore node. Test by cable where possible, compare multiple ISPs and request a route check from support. If only one player has a problem, investigate that player’s local Wi-Fi or ISP path before moving the whole server.
Low ping but severe lag
Check CPU throttling, memory pressure, disk I/O and server tick rate. Reduce view or simulation distance, pause heavy farms and disable unneeded mods as a diagnostic. If the node is oversubscribed, ask for a less-contended machine or move to a plan with guaranteed resources.

Questions readers ask
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Sydney always the best Australian server location?
No. Sydney is the most commonly listed location, but Melbourne, Brisbane or Adelaide may provide a better route for your players. Measure latency from the actual cities and ISPs in your group.
Are the listed prices guaranteed monthly rates?
No. They are indicative vendor or comparison listings in mixed currencies, and checkout totals may include tax, setup fees or different renewal terms. Verify the recurring AUD total before paying.
How much RAM does an ARK server need?
There is no single figure in the available listings. ARK is generally more resource-intensive than basic Minecraft, so ask the host for a recommendation based on your map, mods and player count and confirm whether CPU time is guaranteed.
Do these listings include official Minecraft Realms or Valheim services?
No official Mojang Minecraft Realms or Iron Gate Valheim pricing was verified in the available listings. The comparisons here are third-party hosted game servers.
The Bottom Line
Choose GTX Gaming first for a clearly documented Sydney Valheim or Minecraft plan, Shockbyte when the lowest Minecraft entry price and a broad game catalogue are priorities, and Empower Servers when selecting among Australian cities matters most. In every case, verify the node, resources and final AUD checkout price, then test latency with your own players.
