What’s actually slowing this PC down?

For Rainbow Six Siege, choose a monitor refresh rate your PC can feed with a sustained frame rate—or, on console, one that matches the platform’s published performance target. For PC, that usually means comparing 144 Hz, 240 Hz, and 360 Hz against the FPS your system can actually deliver. On PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X, Ubisoft lists 120 FPS Performance modes, so a 120 Hz display matches the cited target. There is no verified, universally best monitor model in the available evidence.
What refresh rate should you choose for Siege?
Refresh rate is the maximum number of times per second a display can update its image. A higher rate can make motion look smoother when the game is producing enough frames to take advantage of it. Intel’s Siege settings guide names 144 Hz, 240 Hz, and 360 Hz as options, and advises matching the monitor tier to the frame rate the PC can achieve. It also emphasizes that both CPU and GPU capability matter: Intel’s Rainbow Six Siege settings guide.
A 240 Hz or 360 Hz monitor is not automatically the better choice if your system cannot sustain frame rates near that range. Conversely, a player whose PC consistently delivers higher frame rates may have reason to consider a faster display. Treat these tiers as a way to narrow your search, not as a guarantee of a competitive advantage.
Which monitor makes sense for your platform?
| Platform or use | Published Siege target | Practical monitor direction |
|---|---|---|
| PC, competitive play | Intel identifies 144 Hz, 240 Hz, and 360 Hz tiers based on achievable FPS; no single target applies to every PC. | Choose a refresh rate in line with the frame rate your CPU and GPU can sustain. |
| PC, Core Siege at 1080p | Ubisoft’s May 2025 recommended specification lists 120 FPS. | A high-refresh display can accommodate frame rates above 60 FPS; check actual performance before paying extra for 240 Hz or 360 Hz. |
| PC, Core Siege at 1440p | Ubisoft’s May 2025 recommended specification lists 120 FPS. | Consider 120/144 Hz or higher if your hardware can deliver the frames; weigh resolution and refresh rate together. |
| PC, Core Siege at 2160p (4K) | Ubisoft’s May 2025 recommended specification lists 120 FPS; its support page also describes a recommended Ultra 4K configuration at 120 FPS. | Prioritize whether your GPU can support the chosen resolution and frame rate before selecting a faster monitor. |
| PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series S, or Xbox Series X | Ubisoft lists 120 FPS in Performance mode and 60 FPS in Quality mode. | A 120 Hz display matches the published Performance-mode target. A 240 Hz or 360 Hz display is not needed to match that cited console target. |
Ubisoft’s platform figures are specifications, not independent benchmark results or a promise that every player will see that frame rate in every situation. Its May 18, 2025 Siege X specifications announcement lists PC Core Siege targets of 120 FPS at 1080p, 1440p, and 2160p, with Dual Front at 60 FPS. For PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X, it lists 120 FPS for Performance mode and 60 FPS for Quality mode.

How resolution and hardware affect the choice
Resolution and refresh rate compete for the same finite system resources: rendering more pixels can make it harder for a PC to maintain high frame rates. Ubisoft’s May 2025 PC specifications distinguish 1080p, 1440p, and 2160p configurations and recommend progressively different GPU tiers across them. Use the resolution you want to play at as part of the refresh-rate decision, rather than assuming a graphics card that handles one tier will deliver the same FPS at another.
Ubisoft also lists 60 FPS as the minimum PC specification for 1080p and 120 FPS as the recommended Core Siege target at 1080p, 1440p, and 2160p. These are official targets for the stated configurations, not guarantees for every machine or evidence that a particular monitor performs best. See Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Siege system requirements for the 4K Ultra configuration and other tier details.

What competitive players should—and should not—take from FPS differences
In Intel’s article, Supr, identified there as Soniqs’ current general manager and former in-game leader, describes a gunfight between a player receiving 144 frames and an opponent receiving 360 as smoother for the latter. That is his perspective, not a controlled test establishing how much a faster monitor improves performance. The practical point is to avoid buying a display tier your PC cannot use; no monitor by itself guarantees an advantage.
A simple buying checklist
- Identify your platform. On the listed current-generation consoles, use 120 Hz as the display target if you want to match Ubisoft’s Performance-mode specification.
- Pick your resolution. For PC, decide between 1080p, 1440p, and 2160p before settling on a refresh tier.
- Check sustained FPS at that resolution. Base the choice on the frame rate your PC can maintain in Siege, not only its peak in a menu or another game.
- Compare refresh tiers against that FPS. For PC, 144 Hz is a reasonable tier to assess first; consider 240 Hz or 360 Hz when your system can deliver correspondingly high frame rates.
- Verify model-specific details separately. The sources here do not compare monitor response times, panel types, HDR, variable-refresh performance, prices, or individual models. Do not treat a refresh-rate label alone as a quality ranking.
Is there a single best Siege monitor?
No model-by-model monitor testing or comparative evidence establishes a universal winner. The defensible recommendation is a selection framework: match refresh rate to achievable PC FPS, or to the console’s published target, and choose resolution in line with your hardware. For PC buyers, the relevant tiers in Intel’s Siege guide are 144 Hz, 240 Hz, and 360 Hz; for the consoles listed by Ubisoft, 120 Hz matches the cited Performance-mode target.
