There is no monitor model Jagex identifies as best for RuneScape, and its published specifications do not require 4K or a high refresh rate. Choose a screen size and native resolution that suit your desk, then check that the game’s interface remains readable at your preferred viewing distance. RuneScape lets you match fullscreen resolution to your monitor and adjust interface scaling from 70% to 300%.
What matters most in a RuneScape monitor
For RuneScape, the most useful starting point is the balance between display size, native resolution and comfortable interface readability. A higher resolution can make an image sharper, but it can also make interface elements look smaller. The game provides a scaling control so you can compensate rather than defaulting to the highest resolution available.
- Resolution and size: Choose a native resolution that looks sharp at your normal viewing distance. In fullscreen mode, Jagex advises matching the game’s selected resolution to the monitor’s resolution.
- Interface readability: Check text and interface elements in the game, then adjust interface scaling if they appear too small.
- Refresh rate: Consider a higher refresh rate if you also value smoother motion in other games, but the cited Jagex guidance does not make it a RuneScape requirement.
- PC capability: Confirm your computer meets the current requirements for the RuneScape client you use; a monitor’s resolution alone does not determine whether the system can run the game well.
Set RuneScape’s resolution and interface scaling
RuneScape supports both windowed and fullscreen sizing. Jagex says fullscreen uses the monitor size at the resolution selected in the game’s drop-down, and recommends matching that selection to the monitor’s resolution. If high-resolution display settings make the interface feel too small, the game’s interface scaling range is 70% to 300%.
- Open the game’s graphics settings.
- For fullscreen play, choose the resolution that matches your monitor’s native resolution.
- Adjust interface scaling until text and interface elements are comfortable to read.
- If you prefer to resize the game window instead, use windowed mode and set a size that works for your screen.

Does RuneScape need a high-refresh monitor?
No specific refresh-rate requirement is stated in the official materials cited here. Jagex explains that VSync synchronizes the game’s frame rate with the monitor’s refresh rate; this can reduce screen tearing but may affect FPS. That describes how the setting interacts with a display, not a reason every RuneScape player needs to buy a high-refresh monitor.
Jagex’s graphics settings guide also discusses rendering scale and other graphics controls. If you are adjusting settings, treat refresh rate and VSync as part of the overall setup rather than as a substitute for matching resolution or making the interface readable.

Check your computer before choosing a resolution
Jagex’s recommended specifications cover the computer hardware and software for RuneScape and Old School RuneScape, including processor, graphics, memory, operating system, storage and graphics API guidance. They do not name a monitor model or specify a monitor refresh rate. Check the requirements for the client you play on Jagex Support before settling on a demanding resolution.
For framerate troubleshooting, Jagex notes that a monitor generally has a higher refresh rate than a TV. Choosing between monitor options
