There is no officially documented “best” Moonfrost preset yet. The current public information does not list the game’s graphics-menu controls, identify a recommended configuration, or publish controlled FPS tests. The only platform-specific performance note available says that Moonfrost’s default graphics configuration performs well on Steam Deck. That is a qualitative compatibility result, not a frame-rate guarantee.
For every other PC, the safest approach is to begin with the current build’s defaults, establish whether the problem is unstable performance or unclear presentation, and change one available option at a time. Record your build, hardware, resolution and result so you can reverse a change after an Early Access update.

What is actually known about Moonfrost performance
Moonfrost is an Early Access game from Oxalis Games. Its Steam presentation describes a pixel-art world with dynamic lighting, weather and wildlife. Those systems can affect the look and workload of a scene, but the Steam listing does not publish a setting-by-setting explanation or tell players which effect to reduce first.
Steam’s listing gives the following minimum PC requirements:

| Operating system | Windows 11 |
| Processor | 2 GHz processor |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM |
| Graphics memory | 3 GB video memory |
| Graphics API | DirectX 10 |
| Storage | 2 GB |
These are minimums stated by Steam, not a promise of a particular frame rate, resolution or visual quality.
Epic Games Store lists a different set of specifications. Its minimum listing names Windows 7, an Intel Core i3, 8 GB of memory and either an NVIDIA GTX 1660 Ti or AMD RX 580. Its recommended listing names Windows 11, an Intel Core i5, 16 GB of memory and either an NVIDIA RTX 2070 Super or AMD RX 5700 XT.

| Memory | 8 GB | 16 GB |
| Graphics card | NVIDIA GTX 1660 Ti or AMD RX 580 | NVIDIA RTX 2070 Super or AMD RX 5700 XT |
Do not merge those two tables into one universal requirement list. They are platform listings with different operating-system and hardware claims, and neither publishes a tested FPS target.
Why a universal “best settings” answer would be misleading
The available official store pages do not name Moonfrost’s current graphics controls. They do not establish whether the current build offers separate options for lighting, weather, shadows, effects, texture quality, anti-aliasing, resolution scaling, foliage or post-processing. They also do not identify which option has the largest performance cost.
That means an exact recipe such as “set shadows to medium and effects to low” would be guesswork unless it is checked in a specific game build. The same applies to claims such as “this gives 60 FPS” or “this setting fixes stutter.” Moonfrost remains in Early Access, and its systems and menus can change as content is added and community feedback is incorporated.
A useful recommendation therefore has to be conditional: use the controls the current build actually exposes, change only one variable at a time, and judge the result on the hardware and resolution you use to play.

The safest baseline for a new installation
- Note the build. Before changing anything, record the game version shown by your launcher or title screen and the date. Early Access updates can invalidate an older settings recipe.
- Start with the default graphics configuration. Do not lower every option immediately. A default run gives you a reference for image clarity, text readability, loading behavior and scene transitions.
- Use the game’s normal display resolution first. If the current menu offers a resolution or display-scale control, begin with the native resolution of your monitor or handheld screen. Record any change you make.
- Play a repeatable scene. Visit the same area under similar conditions, such as a busy settlement, a weather event or a scene with moving wildlife. Dynamic lighting, weather and wildlife are part of Moonfrost’s presentation, so a quiet area may hide a problem.
- Identify the symptom. Decide whether you are seeing a consistently low frame rate, brief stutters, slow loading, blurry art, unreadable small text or a combination of these. Each symptom calls for a different adjustment.
- Change one available option. Apply one change, return to the same scene and compare. If the image improves but motion becomes less stable, revert and try a smaller change.
- Keep a short change log. Write down the option, old value, new value, resolution and observed result. This is the quickest way to undo a change after an update.
This method does not assume that a particular control exists. It remains valid when the menu changes because it is based on observation rather than a fixed preset.

When motion is consistently slow
If the game feels slow in every area, reduce the most visually complex options that the current build actually provides, one at a time. Use the same repeatable scene after each change. Do not assume that a setting named “quality” or “effects” has the same cost in every build; Moonfrost’s public documentation does not provide that mapping.
Resolution is usually the clearest diagnostic because rendering fewer pixels can reduce GPU work, but only use a lower resolution or scale if the current menu provides it and the resulting pixel-art image remains readable on your display. Compare character edges, interface text and small environmental details rather than judging only a quiet menu screen.
When you see brief stutters
Short pauses are not necessarily solved by lowering every visual option. Check whether the stutter happens during loading, when weather changes, when many characters or animals enter view, or at regular intervals. Record the location and trigger. Close unnecessary background programs, make sure the game is installed on a drive with adequate free space, and then test a single in-game change. If the symptom appeared immediately after an update, test the default configuration again before assuming your previous settings are still appropriate.
When frame pacing matters more than a peak number
A stable experience is preferable to a higher but erratic frame-rate reading. If the current build offers a frame-rate limit, choose a ceiling your system can sustain in the busiest scene you regularly visit rather than the highest number it briefly reaches. If no limiter is exposed, judge smoothness by repeated movement through the same scene and avoid treating an occasional high reading as a reliable result.

When the GPU or CPU is the limiting part
Use your system’s monitoring tools, if available, to observe utilization while reproducing the problem. A graphics processor near full utilization suggests that resolution or visual effects may be the relevant tests; a processor that is saturated while the graphics processor has headroom suggests that lowering image quality may have little effect. This is a diagnostic principle, not a Moonfrost benchmark, and it cannot identify a specific menu option without testing the current build.

How to improve clarity without wasting performance
Keep the pixel-art presentation intact
Moonfrost is presented as a pixel-art game. A lower render resolution, non-integer scaling or aggressive sharpening can make edges shimmer or details look muddy even when motion is smooth. Compare the same static objects at your normal viewing distance. If the game offers separate display-resolution and scaling controls, change only one and keep notes on which produces the cleaner result.
Check interface readability
Do not judge clarity only by scenery. Read inventory labels, menus and any small on-screen text after every resolution or scaling change. A setting that preserves frame rate but makes text difficult to read is not a practical improvement. SteamDB’s Steam Deck compatibility record specifically notes that some text is small, so handheld players should treat legibility as a primary test rather than an optional refinement.
Separate visual blur from performance
If the game looks soft while movement is already smooth, first inspect display resolution, scaling and any image-processing controls exposed by the current build. Do not lower unrelated visual effects simply to fix blur. Conversely, if the image is sharp but motion is unstable, prioritize the performance diagnosis instead of adding sharpening that may increase visual noise.

SteamDB rates Moonfrost as Playable on Steam Deck. Its compatibility record, tested on 23 September 2026, says the default graphics configuration performs well on Steam Deck. That is the strongest platform-specific guidance currently available, but it is qualitative: it is not an FPS benchmark and does not compare individual settings.
For a Deck owner, begin with the default configuration rather than importing a desktop preset. Test in a busy scene and during changing weather, then make one adjustment only if you can identify a specific problem. SteamDB also notes small text and functions that may require touch input, the virtual keyboard or a community configuration. Those interaction limitations are separate from rendering performance, so lowering graphics quality will not necessarily solve them.
Use the Deck’s own display and controls when judging clarity. A change that looks acceptable on an external monitor may make interface text less comfortable on the handheld screen. Keep a copy of any community configuration you use so you can restore it after a game update.

Windows PC guidance by hardware position
Systems near the Steam minimum
A computer close to Steam’s listed minimum should begin at defaults and test carefully. If performance is poor, prioritize the least damaging change available in the current build, then retest in a demanding scene. Keep expectations realistic: meeting a minimum requirement does not establish a target resolution or frame rate.

A system matching Epic’s recommended processor, memory and graphics-card listing has more headroom than a minimum-spec machine, but the listing still does not guarantee a particular result. Start at defaults, retain your monitor’s normal resolution if motion is stable, and adjust only when a repeatable symptom appears.
Systems that exceed the listed specifications
Extra hardware does not remove Early Access variability. A scene update, new weather effect or content addition can change workload independently of your PC. Use the same version-and-scene testing method after major updates instead of assuming that an older configuration remains optimal.
A practical troubleshooting sequence
The game is blurry after an adjustment
- Restore the previous resolution or display-scale value from your change log.
- Check interface text and pixel-art edges at the normal viewing distance.
- If the current build exposes a separate image-processing control, test it independently rather than changing resolution again.
- Keep the sharper configuration only if motion remains stable in a demanding scene.
Performance worsened after a game update
- Record the new build number and update date.
- Reset to the current default configuration.
- Repeat the same scene test used before the update.
- Reapply changes one at a time, because a former setting may have changed meaning or cost.
Only one area performs badly
Document the location, weather state, number of visible characters or animals and any transition that precedes the slowdown. Test there rather than in an empty field. A location-specific result should not be presented as a universal Moonfrost benchmark.
Controls or text are difficult on Steam Deck
Consult the compatibility notes for the affected function and try touch input, the virtual keyboard or a community configuration when appropriate. These are usability workarounds, not graphics settings, and they should be evaluated separately from frame-rate changes.

- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
- Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
- Game build and test date.
- Store version or platform.
- CPU, GPU, RAM and display or handheld model.
- Resolution, scaling and every graphics option changed.
- The scene used for testing, including weather or crowd conditions when relevant.
- Whether the result improved average motion, reduced stutters, improved text readability or only changed appearance.
- Any trade-off, such as blur, shimmering, small text or reduced visual detail.
Do not turn one device’s observation into a guaranteed FPS claim for all PCs. No controlled settings comparison or named performance benchmark is currently published for Moonfrost in the available official material.
How Early Access changes the answer
Oxalis Games describes community feedback as important to Moonfrost’s development, and the Steam Early Access description says content will continue to be added. Graphics controls, default values, optimization and platform behavior can therefore change. Treat a settings guide as build-specific, not permanent.
After a significant update, first test the defaults, then repeat your recorded scene. If the game adds a new control, test it independently before changing several existing options. Keep the old configuration available until you have confirmed that the new build behaves consistently.
Bottom line for choosing Moonfrost settings
For Steam Deck, the documented starting point is the default graphics configuration, which SteamDB reports as performing well in its Playable compatibility assessment dated 23 September 2026. For Windows PCs, there is no source-backed universal preset: Steam and Epic publish different requirements, while neither publishes a graphics menu guide or FPS target.
The most defensible “best settings” process is therefore defaults first, repeatable scene testing second, and one controlled change at a time. Preserve the resolution and image clarity your display can show comfortably, limit performance only when your hardware cannot sustain the workload, and retest after Early Access updates.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Moonfrost have an officially recommended graphics preset?
No. The available Steam and Epic listings do not document a recommended preset, named graphics controls or a tested FPS target. SteamDB’s statement about default settings applies specifically to its Steam Deck compatibility assessment and is qualitative rather than a benchmark.
What FPS should I expect from Moonfrost?
No reliable FPS figure is established by the available sources. Results depend on the build, device, resolution, scene and settings, so a number should not be treated as universal without a documented test.
Recommended Free Tools
Should I lower settings on Steam Deck?
Start with the default configuration. SteamDB’s 23 September 2026 compatibility record says it performs well on Steam Deck. Change a setting only after reproducing a specific problem, and evaluate small text and touch-related functions separately from graphics performance.
Why do Steam and Epic show different requirements?
They are separate store listings with different minimum and recommended specifications. Attribute each table to its store rather than combining the figures into a single requirement claim.
