If you want to use an original Nintendo 64 controller on a USB-equipped computer, look for an adapter that converts the N64 controller plug to USB. The clearest documented option here is raphnet’s N64 controller-to-USB V3; its maker lists both a single-player model and a two-player version. If you do not need to keep your original controller, Retro-Bit’s Tribute64 wired USB and wireless models are alternatives—but they are replacement controllers, not adapters for your existing N64 pad.

Which type of N64-to-USB connection do you need?

The phrase “N64 to USB” can describe two different directions. For an original controller, you need an adapter that takes the N64 controller plug and connects it to a computer’s USB port. A USB controller made in an N64 style is different: it is a new controller, not a way to connect an original N64 pad.

  • Keep your original controller: choose an N64-controller-to-USB adapter, then verify compatibility with your exact controller model.
  • Buy an N64-style USB controller: consider a wired USB Tribute64.
  • Use one controller with multiple kinds of hardware: the wireless Tribute64 package includes separate N64 and USB receivers.

For the direct adapter route, raphnet describes its V3 as a way to use an N64 controller on a USB-equipped PC. The manufacturer lists model ADAP-N64-USB_V3 as a single-player adapter and links to a two-player version. Its product page showed a US$24.49 price when accessed and warned that prices may change: raphnet N64 controller-to-USB adapter V3.

Compare the practical options

Option What it connects Best fit Check before buying
raphnet N64-to-USB V3, single-player An existing N64 controller to a USB-equipped PC One player who wants to keep using an original controller Exact controller compatibility, computer and emulator configuration, and live price and stock
raphnet two-player version Two controller connections, according to the manufacturer’s linked product listing A setup intended for two players Port count, compatibility of both controllers, and current availability
Retro-Bit Tribute64 Wireless A replacement wireless N64-style controller using separate N64 and USB receivers Someone willing to use a different controller on N64 and USB devices Receiver included, supported device, input mode, and controller revision
Retro-Bit Tribute64 Wired USB A replacement N64-style controller with a wired USB connection Someone who wants a USB controller rather than an adapter for an original pad Supported device, cable and button needs, and live availability

Retro-Bit describes the wireless model as including N64 and USB receivers. Its manual lists PC, Mac, Steam, PS3, Android, and Switch support for the USB receiver. The wired USB Tribute64 is described for PC, Mac, Steam, Super Retro-Cade, and Switch; Retro-Bit also lists Raspberry Pi and other USB-enabled devices on its product page. See the Tribute64 product information and Tribute64 Wired USB product information for the maker’s current descriptions. These products are alternatives for buyers open to a replacement controller, not substitutes for an adapter when retaining an original pad is the priority.

Check compatibility with your exact N64 controller

Raphnet’s compatibility page lists the standard Nintendo N64 controller as tested and supported, along with some third-party models. It also names models marked unsupported. The list is explicitly incomplete: an omitted controller may simply not have been tested or reported, so absence is not proof of incompatibility. Check the exact model against the raphnet adapter compatibility list, and seek confirmation if it is not listed.

Compatibility is only one part of the setup. The computer must recognize the adapter, and the game or emulator may need its own input mapping. Raphnet links management and update tools, firmware, testing instructions, and direct-access plugins for Project64 and mupen64plus; that does not mean every setup requires a plugin. Configure controls in the target game or emulator and consult its instructions if the controller is detected but buttons or the analog stick do not behave as expected.

Tribute64 wireless: receiver modes and safety notes

The following directions apply to Retro-Bit’s Tribute64 wireless controller, not to the raphnet adapter. The Tribute64 Wireless manual says to switch between D-Input and X-Input by holding Start and B for five seconds. It notes that some devices and programs require X-Input. For Switch use with the USB receiver, the manual says to enable “Pro Wired Controller Communication.”

  • With the Tribute64 N64 receiver, the manual says only Controller Paks are compatible; do not attach other accessories.
  • Do not connect a powered Micro-USB cable to the N64 receiver. The manual warns this may damage the console or receiver.
  • Retro-Bit’s manual describes wireless range of up to 30 ft / 10 m and a full-charge playing time of 15–20 hours with rumble or up to 30 hours without rumble. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results.

Check stock, price, and revision before ordering

The raphnet page’s US$24.49 figure was a manufacturer-site snapshot, not a guaranteed current price, retailer listing, or delivery promise. The page also said the adapter was in stock with an ordinary ship-within-five-business-days note at access; neither availability nor that shipping estimate should be treated as current. Check the live listing for the exact model and destination before ordering.

Retro-Bit lists MSRP values for Tribute64 products and notes that some colors may not be available or in production. Confirm the seller’s current stock and the receiver included in the package, especially if you need USB or N64 connectivity.

If you are considering a Retro-Bit firmware update, first identify the receiver revision. Retro-Bit says its updater requires a Windows 7, 10, or 11 PC, and warns that V1 firmware is not compatible with V2 devices or vice versa. The support page says V2 controllers have “V2” printed on their receivers. Use the updater and instructions on Retro-Bit support only after checking that the firmware matches your hardware.
