For Season 9, Insider Gaming’s July 1, 2025 guide named Blood Wave the best Necromancer build, presenting it as a route from leveling into endgame. That is a dated guide recommendation—not a proven winner for every activity or gear level. If you want a minion-centered endgame setup, Game8 also documented a Hand of Naz build, but labels its guide a Season 9 legacy build that is not updated for the current season.
What is the best Necromancer build in Diablo 4 Season 9?
Blood Wave is the direct answer if you are following Insider Gaming’s Season 9 recommendation. Its guide, published July 1, 2025, identifies Blood Wave as the best Necromancer build and covers progression from leveling into endgame: Insider Gaming’s Season 9 Necromancer build. The source does not establish that Blood Wave is best for every activity, character stage, or gear state.

That date matters: Blizzard’s Season 9 launch notes identify patch 2.3.0 as launching July 1, 2025, while a September 25, 2026 Blizzard notice refers to Season of Hell’s Legacy. Season 9 build advice should therefore be treated as historical, not as a current-season ranking. Blizzard’s Season of Hell’s Legacy notice
How to choose between Blood Wave and Hand of Naz minions
| Build | Best fit based on the guide | What the source establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Blood Wave | A Season 9 recommendation spanning leveling into endgame | Insider Gaming named it the best Necromancer build in its July 1, 2025 guide. The guide does not provide matched performance comparisons across activities or gear levels. |
| Hand of Naz minions | A minion-centered endgame playstyle | Game8 describes an endgame build centered on Skeletal Mages and the unique Hand of Naz. Its page marks the guide as a Season 9 legacy build, not updated for the current season. Game8’s Hand of Naz build |
Choose based on your character’s stage and the playstyle you enjoy. If you are leveling or want to follow the broad dated recommendation, Blood Wave is the cited choice. If you specifically want minions to supply the main damage, Hand of Naz is a documented endgame alternative. The available guides do not provide comparable measurements for bossing, Pit pushing, or speed farming, so they cannot settle which performs better in those activities.

What the Hand of Naz minion build does
Game8’s guide describes Hand of Naz as empowering minions after 25 attacks and identifies Skeletal Mages as the build’s primary damage source. Its listed combat sequence is:
- Cast Blight.
- Move into range and use Soulrift.
- Use Reap for attack speed after an enemy dies.
- Use Bone Prison to reduce cooldowns.
These details describe the guide’s setup and instructions; they are not independently tested performance results. The 25-attack effect is a guide-reported mechanic for this Season 9 build, not a general ranking statistic.

Why Season 9 advice does not automatically carry forward
Season 9’s Sins of the Horadrim included Horadric Spells as a seasonal customization system, according to Blizzard’s Sins of the Horadrim announcement. That seasonal context is part of how these builds were presented; mechanics and balance may not carry over to later seasons. Game8’s legacy label is an additional reason not to treat its Hand of Naz setup as current-season guidance.
