Best OBS Settings for a 24/7 YouTube Study Music Stream in India

A practical OBS starting point for a 24/7 study-music stream: 1080p30 H.264 at 10 Mbps, stereo AAC, a two-second keyframe interval, and a realistic stability test.

For a study-music stream, start by testing 1080p at 30 fps with H.264 video at 10 Mbps, CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, and stereo AAC at 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. Use SDR Rec. 709. If your connection or computer cannot sustain that setup, test 720p30 at 6 Mbps instead. These are YouTube’s published ingest recommendations, not a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming; the right choice depends on your actual connection and encoder.

Recommended OBS settings to test first

YouTube’s published settings are general live-ingest guidance, not an India-specific preset. Treat them as starting targets, then test them on the internet connection and computer you will actually use. A speed test can help assess upload capacity, but a realistic live test and YouTube’s stream-health indicators are more useful for checking whether the complete setup holds up.

Setting Starting value What to consider
Resolution and frame rate 1920 × 1080 at 30 fps Try 1280 × 720 at 30 fps if the connection or encoder struggles. For mostly static artwork, higher frame rates may add little visible value; that is a practical judgment, not a YouTube requirement.
Video encoder H.264 A conservative starting point. YouTube also lists H.265/HEVC and AV1; whether those are suitable depends on your software and hardware encoder.
Video bitrate 10 Mbps for 1080p30; 6 Mbps for 720p30 YouTube lists these as recommended H.264 ingest bitrates. Check sustained upload performance rather than relying on a brief peak.
Rate control CBR YouTube specifies CBR for RTMP/RTMPS ingest.
Keyframe interval 2 seconds YouTube recommends two seconds and says the interval should not exceed four seconds.
Audio AAC stereo, 44.1 kHz, 128 kbps Listen for clipping, silence, sudden level changes, and unwanted gaps using the actual music source.
Color SDR, Rec. 709, 8-bit A straightforward choice for a study-music stream. HDR adds requirements and complexity that are usually unnecessary for static or lightly animated visuals.
Ingest protocol RTMPS where supported Keep the stream key private: it authorizes an encoder to send video to your channel.
Latency and DVR Normal latency; enable DVR if viewers should pause or rewind YouTube warns that lower latency can increase buffering. It is less important for a non-interactive music stream. DVR gives viewers pause and rewind controls.

Set up OBS without guessing at hardware-specific options

OBS encoder names, presets, and available hardware choices vary by version, operating system, and computer. The settings below describe the targets to select where available; they do not prescribe a particular encoder preset or promise that a specific computer can sustain the load.

  1. Prepare the YouTube stream. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and use its stream settings to obtain the stream key and ingest details. Enable live streaming ahead of time; YouTube says first-time enablement may take at least 24 hours after the request.
  2. Choose the video output. In OBS, open Settings → Video and set the output resolution and frame rate to 1920 × 1080 and 30 fps for the first test. If that proves unstable, repeat the test at 1280 × 720 and 30 fps.
  3. Configure the encoder targets. Open Settings → Output, select the streaming output controls, and choose H.264 if available. Set rate control to CBR, the video bitrate to 10,000 Kbps for 1080p30 or 6,000 Kbps for 720p30, and the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. OBS versions and encoder interfaces differ, so confirm how your selected encoder expresses these values rather than assuming every field uses the same units.
  4. Set the audio format. In OBS audio/output settings, use AAC stereo at 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps where those controls are available. Play the actual study-music material and watch the audio meter; avoid clipping and confirm the audio continues through long passages and transitions.
  5. Keep the color path SDR. Use Rec. 709 and 8-bit SDR for an ordinary study-music visual. Do not select HDR unless your production specifically needs it and you have verified the full hardware, OBS-version, codec, and protocol requirements.
  6. Connect OBS to YouTube. In OBS Settings → Stream, select YouTube and enter the stream key, or use the applicable YouTube connection flow shown by your installed version. Treat the key like a password. Reset it in YouTube if it is exposed.
  7. Run a full test before launch. Test with the intended music and visual, not an empty scene. YouTube advises testing before going live and checking the stream’s health. Watch for dropped frames, connection interruptions, encoder overload, audio clipping, and stream-health warnings; lower resolution or bitrate and test again if problems appear.
  8. Choose viewer playback behavior. For a non-interactive music stream, normal latency is a sensible default. Enable DVR if viewers should be able to pause and resume or rewind.

Test for your own Indian connection

YouTube does not publish a separate India-specific bitrate table in the guidance used here. ISP, Wi-Fi, time of day, computer load, and the route to YouTube can all affect a long stream, so do not assume one bitrate suits every Indian creator.

  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  • Run a speed test, as YouTube recommends, but do not treat a single result as proof that an all-day stream will remain stable.
  • Test the same resolution, bitrate, music, and visual you intend to use. YouTube advises testing with audio and movement similar to the real broadcast.
  • Watch stream-health indicators during the test and after launch. If health is poor, try 720p30 at 6 Mbps before raising settings again.
  • Check the audio over extended playback: a stream can look healthy while a source file ends, a scene changes unexpectedly, or audio becomes silent.
  • For a local setup, a UPS for the computer and Wi-Fi router may help with brief power interruptions. It cannot protect against an ISP outage or a YouTube-side interruption.

Copyright, stream keys, and continuous operation

Use music and visuals you have permission to stream

A 24/7 format does not change the need to have the rights or permissions required for the music, artwork, animation, and other material in the broadcast. A track being available online or labeled “study music” does not by itself establish that you may rebroadcast it. Review YouTube’s current rules and the terms attached to every asset you use. Reused material can also affect channel eligibility or monetization; do not assume that looping content is automatically acceptable simply because you created the playlist.

Protect the stream key

The stream key is the credential that lets an encoder send a feed to your live stream. Do not publish it or share it in screenshots. If it is compromised, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder that uses it.

OBS settings are not an uptime plan

A correctly configured encoder does not by itself guarantee that a local computer will recover unattended from a power cut, operating-system update, OBS crash, Wi-Fi failure, or YouTube interruption. The exact restart and recovery settings depend on your machine and OBS setup; do not rely on an untested assumption that OBS will restart and resume on its own. Plan how you will notice interruptions and restore the stream.

Common problems and what to try

Symptom Likely area to check Next step
YouTube reports poor stream health or the broadcast disconnects Upload stability, Wi-Fi, or bitrate Check the connection and stream-health messages. Test again at 720p30 and 6 Mbps if you started at 1080p30.
Frames are dropped or the encoder struggles Network capacity or encoder load Check whether the warning points to dropped frames or encoding lag, then lower resolution or bitrate and retest. Available encoder choices depend on the computer.
The stream connects, but viewers hear silence or clipping Audio source, levels, or output format Confirm the intended source is active, check OBS meters, and listen to a realistic test at the target AAC settings.
The stream key is rejected or someone else appears to control the feed Incorrect or exposed key Verify the key in YouTube Studio. If it may have been exposed, reset it and replace the saved key in OBS.
First live broadcast cannot start Live streaming may not yet be enabled Request enablement in YouTube Studio well before launch; first-time activation may take at least 24 hours.
Viewers report buffering Playback conditions or latency choice Review stream health and avoid low-latency mode unless the stream needs interactive timing; YouTube warns lower latency may mean more buffering.
