For a local OBS recording of a Hindi music playlist, start with Advanced Output, record to MKV, use an available hardware encoder, and choose High Quality. Move to Indistinguishable if larger files and the extra system load are acceptable. For a live stream, choose resolution and frame rate for the destination and content; set video bitrate only after checking the platform’s current limits and your stable upload capacity. Hindi-language content does not need different video settings, but you must have the necessary rights to broadcast the specific music.
First decide: record a file or go live?
OBS recording settings control a file saved on your computer. Streaming settings control what OBS sends to a live platform. They can use different output settings, and a suitable live bitrate cannot be chosen without knowing both the destination and your upload capacity.
- For a local recording: use the recording recommendations below, especially MKV for resilience if a recording is interrupted.
- For a live stream: configure the platform’s stream key and output settings separately, then use the platform’s current requirements for resolution, frame rate, and bitrate.
The playlist’s language does not change the video configuration. The actual tracks do matter: OBS settings do not grant permission to stream or publish music.
Recommended OBS settings for a local playlist recording
Choose Advanced Output when you need control
In OBS, open Settings → Output and set Output Mode to Advanced if you want recording and streaming settings managed independently or need to select audio tracks. In the Recording section, choose which audio tracks should be included in the file.

Separate audio tracks can help you omit copyrighted music from a recording, but audio routing is not rights clearance. It does not make it permissible to broadcast or publish tracks you are not authorized to use.
Record to MKV, then remux if needed
Set Recording Format to MKV. OBS recommends MKV because an unexpected interruption is less likely to corrupt the entire recording. If your editor or upload workflow needs MP4, use File → Remux Recordings in OBS after recording. OBS also documents compatible fragmented MP4/MOV workflows for applicable cases.

Pick a quality preset to fit the recording
| OBS recording quality | Use it when | Trade-off |

| Lossless | You have a specific lossless workflow and substantial storage and processing capacity. | Usually impractical for a long playlist. OBS estimates around 7 GB per minute; this is an approximate OBS figure, not a machine-specific measurement. OBS says this preset uses the CPU encoder. |
These presets are not interchangeable: higher quality can mean larger files and more resource demand.
Use a suitable encoder and codec
When available, a modern hardware encoder can move encoding work off the CPU with minimal performance impact on modern encoders, according to OBS. Choose based on your hardware and where the file must play. H.264 is broadly playable. AV1 and HEVC can offer recording-efficiency advantages, but check that your editor and target devices support the selected codec before committing to a long recording.

OBS’s 2023 audio/video formats guide recommends the best available hardware encoder for high-quality local recording, with AV1 ahead of HEVC and H.264, alongside high-bitrate AAC or lossless audio such as ALAC. Compatibility with your workflow still matters.
Set resolution, frame rate, and live bitrate
Resolution and frame rate
In Settings → Video, set the canvas resolution to arrange your visual sources and the output resolution to match the recording or stream destination. Choose an output resolution your assets and computer can handle. For a mostly static cover image or visualizer, 30 fps is a reasonable starting point when the destination permits it; 60 fps is usually unnecessary for static visuals and can be more demanding. OBS advises matching the common FPS setting to the intended output.

Live bitrate depends on the destination and connection
Do not copy a bitrate number without checking the platform and your stable upload capacity. OBS says bitrate depends on both upload speed and the service limit, so destination-specific requirements take priority. Its general overview gives around 160 kbps as typical streaming audio guidance, or lower if upload speed is limited.
Numbers in OBS guides are examples tied to their context, not universal presets. OBS’s 2021 overview uses 6000 kbps as an example Twitch video bitrate maximum; that is not a current universal recommendation. OBS’s 2022 hardware-encoding guide lists 3000 kbps at 1280×720/30 fps, 6000 kbps at 1280×720/60 fps, 8000 kbps at 1920×1080/30 fps, and 16000 kbps at 1920×1080/60 fps for a specific Intel Mac recording procedure. None should be treated as a platform-independent live setting.

Check music rights and platform rules before going live
Whether a playlist can be streamed depends on the rights for each specific track and the destination’s current rules—not on the language, OBS preset, or stream key. Confirm you have permission for the intended live broadcast and any recording or replay. A stream key connects OBS to an account; it does not establish music rights.
Troubleshoot common recording and streaming problems
- The recording is damaged after an abrupt stop: record to MKV, then remux to MP4 in OBS if needed.
- The file is too large: use High Quality instead of Indistinguishable or Lossless, and verify the codec works in your editor before recording the full playlist.
- OBS struggles during recording: try an available modern hardware encoder, reduce the output demands, or use High Quality rather than a more demanding preset.
- The live stream buffers or drops frames: reassess bitrate against stable upload capacity and the destination’s current limit; a figure from another platform or OBS example may not fit.
- The platform rejects the stream: check its current resolution, frame-rate, codec, bitrate, and stream-key requirements rather than relying on generic examples.
- Music is muted, blocked, or claimed: review the rights and platform rules for the specific tracks. Changing audio tracks or video settings does not create permission.
