Where to search for the Rotary Encoder
The Rotary Encoder is a rare recyclable item associated with Exodus scavenging on Stella Montis. Guides describe its availability as randomized rather than tied to a guaranteed spawn. Medical/Medical Research and Assembly are the strongest places to prioritize, but no published spawn rate or current official loot table establishes a definitive best location.
- Medical / Medical Research: GameSpot says its writer had the most luck at Medical Research, and PC Gamer reports finding an Encoder in an upper-floor Medical drawer. Treat this as a high-priority area, not a promise. GameSpot’s With a View guide; PC Gamer’s guide.
- Assembly / Assembly Workshops: Assembly appears in PC Gamer’s search areas, while another guide names Assembly Workshops. The Assembly Line is also where you will use the item for the quest. PC Gamer; All Things How.
- Lobby security office: PC Gamer lists this as another possible search area.
- Business Center: All Things How includes this location in its list.
Check loot containers such as drawers, cabinets, and tool tables rather than expecting the item to sit at one fixed point. Those container suggestions come from guide reports; their individual reliability has not been established. Guides differ on which areas to include, so a missing Encoder in one room does not mean the quest is blocked.
How to use the Rotary Encoder for With a View
With a View is a quest from Shani. After obtaining the Encoder, the recorded objective sequence is to visit a control room near the Assembly Line, activate its server switch with the Encoder, interact with a nearby computer, and then deliver an Ion Sputter to Shani. There is no confirmed fixed spawn or measured drop-rate ranking in the available guides. Search the reported Exodus areas across Stella Montis, starting with Medical/Medical Research and Assembly, then broaden to the Lobby security office and Business Center.
