There is no single best PC preset for every Metro game or PC. Start by identifying your edition: Metro Exodus PC Enhanced Edition requires ray-tracing-capable graphics hardware and is designed to run with ray tracing enabled. From there, choose your display’s native resolution and a frame-rate target, then tune settings on your own system. For Enhanced Edition on an NVIDIA GPU, NVIDIA’s 2021 starting point was DLSS Quality at 1080p or 1440p and DLSS Performance at 4K.
Which Metro game and edition are you playing?
Check the title in your library before applying settings advice. The original Metro Exodus and Metro Exodus PC Enhanced Edition are distinct releases with different graphics requirements. Enhanced Edition introduces a fully ray-traced lighting pipeline; its lighting design is built around ray tracing rather than treating it as an optional visual extra. The February 2021 announcement describes ray-traced global illumination, emissive lighting, advanced ray-traced reflections, and DLSS 2.0 support on NVIDIA hardware. 4A Games’ Enhanced Edition announcement
Do not transfer that advice wholesale to Metro 2033 Redux or Metro: Last Light Redux. The available official material establishes Enhanced Edition’s behavior, not current per-setting performance guidance for the Redux games. The April 2021 official FAQ said the publisher had no plans at that time to add ray tracing to Metro Redux; that is a dated statement, not confirmation of later changes. Metro Exodus PC Enhanced Edition FAQ, April 28, 2021
Can you turn ray tracing off in Enhanced Edition?
Enhanced Edition is designed to run with ray tracing enabled. Asked whether ray tracing could be turned off, the official FAQ answered: “No, this version is designed for Ray Tracing to be on.” Official FAQ, April 28, 2021 This makes compatibility the first decision: PLAION says Enhanced Edition requires an NVIDIA RTX or AMD RX graphics card, while its announcement specifies ray-tracing-capable hardware. Check your exact GPU and the game’s requirements before choosing a target resolution or expecting a particular frame rate. PLAION’s Metro Exodus system requirements

What PC requirements does Metro Exodus publish?
PLAION’s support page lists these requirements for the base game. They are not a performance guarantee for Enhanced Edition.
| Requirement | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | 64-bit Windows 7/8/10 | 64-bit Windows 10 |
| Processor | Intel Core i5-4440 or equivalent | Intel Core i7-4770K or equivalent |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM | 8 GB RAM |
| Graphics | GeForce GTX 670, GeForce GTX 1050, or AMD Radeon HD 7870 | GeForce GTX 1070, GeForce RTX 2060, or AMD RX Vega 56 |
| DirectX | DirectX 11 | DirectX 12 |
| Storage | 59 GB | 59 GB |
The same support page separately notes Enhanced Edition’s RTX/RX graphics requirement. Because the listed minimum and recommended entries are for the base game, do not infer that meeting one guarantees a smooth Enhanced Edition experience.

How to choose settings without sacrificing more image quality than necessary
- Confirm the release and GPU. Establish whether you are running the original Metro Exodus or PC Enhanced Edition, then check whether your hardware meets the relevant requirements.
- Set a resolution and performance goal. Begin at your display’s native output resolution and decide what frame rate you want to sustain. The useful target depends on your hardware and preference; there is no official universal preset for all PCs.
- Choose an upscaling mode if available. For Enhanced Edition on NVIDIA hardware, use the historical DLSS recommendations below as trial settings, not guaranteed optimal choices.
- Retest in representative gameplay. If performance falls short, adjust one graphics option at a time and compare the result in the same kind of gameplay. This controlled approach helps identify which change improves performance without an unnecessarily large visual trade-off.
Official sources do not establish a verified universal ranking of every graphics option by performance cost across hardware. A GPU model alone also cannot promise a current frame rate: resolution, settings, the rest of the system, and the particular scene all matter.
Which DLSS mode should you try at 1080p, 1440p, or 4K?
| Output resolution | NVIDIA’s 2021 DLSS starting point for Enhanced Edition | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| 1920×1080 (1080p) | Quality | Compare clarity and performance with your native-resolution result. |
| 2560×1440 (1440p) | Quality | Use as a starting point, then judge image clarity and frame rate on your system. |
| 3840×2160 (4K) | Performance | Use as a starting point and check whether the image remains acceptable to you. |
These mode recommendations come from NVIDIA’s May 2021 feature article, not a current independent comparison across all GPUs. DLSS mode names describe different image-quality/performance trade-offs; the practical choice is the one that meets your target while keeping the image quality you want. What do the published performance figures mean?
NVIDIA’s 2021 article claimed DLSS 2.0 made Enhanced Edition “2X faster at 4K.” It also said RTX 3060, 3060 Ti, 3070, 3080, and 3090 cards—and previous-generation cards of equivalent speed—could run the game at 4K above 60 FPS with DLSS 2.0. The article further claimed GeForce RTX players could exceed 60 FPS at 1440p and 80 FPS at 1080p under its described conditions. These are historical NVIDIA claims, not current guarantees or an independent benchmark for your PC.
The same article retrospectively claimed DLSS 1.0 delivered “up to 30%” more performance in the original Metro Exodus. That figure applies to the original release and DLSS 1.0, not Enhanced Edition’s DLSS 2.0 performance. NVIDIA, May 6, 2021

What ray tracing changes in Enhanced Edition
NVIDIA’s 2021 feature description says Enhanced Edition’s ray-traced global illumination accounts for light from sources such as the sun, moon, sky, and man-made lights. It also describes emissive lights and advanced ray-traced reflections as part of the edition’s visual feature set. The important practical distinction is that this is not simply the original game with an optional ray-tracing switch: the edition was designed around its ray-traced lighting pipeline.
How should Redux players tune their settings?
For Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux, use the general tuning process rather than Enhanced Edition-specific ray-tracing or DLSS advice. Set a resolution and performance target that suit your display and system, then make measured changes and compare the results in gameplay. The official sources cited here do not establish current, item-by-item performance costs or a best universal preset for those Redux titles.
