If performance still falls short, reduce demanding effects such as ray tracing and consider a frame-rate cap. There is no universal preset: the best settings depend on the game, GPU, display, and the image quality you are willing to trade for consistency.
Start with your display and performance target
Note your display’s resolution and refresh rate, then decide what frame-rate range feels right for the game. Treat that as a personal target, not a universal standard. A stable rate that suits your display may feel better than a higher but erratic one.
Resolution is an early adjustment point because it determines how many pixels the GPU must render. NVIDIA’s Control graphics and performance guide says 2560×1440 contains 77% more pixels than 1920×1080. That is a pixel-count comparison, not a prediction that frame rate will drop by 77%; actual performance varies by game and hardware.
Try supported upscaling before sacrificing more visual detail
If the game offers DLSS or FSR, compare its available modes in the actual game. Upscaling renders internally at a lower resolution and reconstructs the output; modes generally trade image clarity for performance, and results depend on the game’s implementation and your hardware. These options only work where the game supports them.

AMD says FSR 3.1 options can be enabled in the graphics or video settings of supported games, where available. Its FSR technologies overview describes supported features, not an independent comparison across games.
NVIDIA’s DLSS game and feature guidance gives example mode recommendations by output resolution. Use those as a starting point only: the mode that looks best in motion can vary with the game, GPU, and scene. Check edges, fine detail, and moving objects for softness or artifacts as well as judging the frame-rate counter.

Prefer in-game FSR when it is available
If a game has an FSR option, use that before trying Radeon Super Resolution (RSR), AMD’s driver-level upscaler. AMD recommends the game-integrated FSR option where supported, because game-specific integration may produce better upscaling results. See AMD’s Radeon Super Resolution setup guidance.
Lower demanding effects if performance still misses your target
Test costly visual effects after you have chosen a resolution and tried supported upscaling. Ray tracing is one reasonable setting to reduce or disable: NVIDIA’s Control guide explains that ray tracing becomes more demanding at higher resolutions and discusses hardware recommendations for that specific game. This does not establish that ray tracing is always the most expensive setting in every dark fantasy game, so compare changes in the title you are playing.

Lower one setting at a time, then revisit the same area or type of scene. This makes it easier to tell whether an effect meaningfully improves the image for you and whether changing it improves frame-rate consistency. If an option has several levels, try the next lower level before turning it off entirely.
Use a frame-rate cap when it fits your display and game
A cap can prevent a game from rendering far above the display’s useful range. AMD documents Frame Rate Target Control (FRTC) as a way to set a maximum in applicable full-screen games, and notes it may reduce GPU power use, heat, and fan speed when frame rates otherwise exceed the display’s refresh rate. The feature and its controls are described in AMD’s Radeon gaming settings documentation.

Do not assume one cap is right for every setup. Choose a limit in relation to your display and the rate your system can sustain, then check whether gameplay feels consistent. A cap cannot fix performance that regularly falls below the chosen limit.

- Record a baseline. Note the game’s current resolution, settings, and performance in a representative scene.
- Set your target. Keep your display’s resolution and refresh rate in mind, and choose a frame-rate range that suits your play.
- Test supported upscaling. Compare the available DLSS or FSR modes for both image quality in motion and performance.
- Reduce effects selectively. If needed, lower demanding options such as ray tracing one at a time and check the same kind of scene.
- Try a cap if useful. Set a maximum appropriate to your display and the game’s performance, then assess consistency.
Compare output resolution and internal rendering resolution, image clarity and artifacts in motion, frame rate and its consistency, the visual value of ray-traced effects, and compatibility with your GPU and the game’s implementation. No common independent benchmark establishes a best setting across dark fantasy games, so your in-game comparison is more useful than a genre-wide preset.

Consider hardware only after tuning
If these changes do not bring the game close to your target, investigate whether the GPU is the limiting component before shopping for an upgrade. NVIDIA’s Control guide offers game-specific GPU and ray-tracing recommendations, but it does not identify a card that is right for every dark fantasy game or show that a new GPU resolves every cause of stutter. Diagnose the limit and compare it with the requirements of the particular game before making a hardware decision.
