For Palworld 1.0, start with the volcanic Mount Obsidian route around (-630, -440). If you want a permanent mining base instead of a harvesting run, the area south of the Foot of the Volcano fast-travel point around (-744, -442) is the strongest cited option. Both coordinates are approximate: map datasets use different coordinate sets, and some older guides describe pre-1.0 locations. Confirm the landmark and map pin in a current atlas before traveling or placing a Palbox.
Sulfur matters because it feeds gunpowder, which in turn supports firearms and explosives. That makes a dependable sulfur route an ammunition plan, not just another resource stop.

| Location | Approximate coordinates | Best use | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mount Obsidian summit route | (-630, -440) | Fast-travel mining run | Exact summit pin and current node placement |
| Foot of the Volcano, south side | (-744, -442) | Late-game sulfur-and-ore base | Flat buildable ground, node spread and danger level |

| Current interactive atlas | 663 sulfur placements in 10 clusters, according to PalMods (2026) | Finding the nearest cluster from your current fast-travel point | Whether the selected pin matches the in-game landmark |
The two volcanic options answer different needs. Mount Obsidian is a practical waypoint: arrive, mine, and leave. The Foot of the Volcano area is better suited to a dedicated base with local storage and automation space, provided the terrain works for your build.
Why sulfur becomes an ammunition bottleneck
Current 1.0 guidance treats sulfur as a limiting input for ammunition because it is used to make gunpowder for firearms and explosives. A shortfall can therefore stop more than one crafting chain. Players who use guns heavily, produce explosives, or supply a combat-focused party will usually benefit from planning sulfur trips before ammunition runs out rather than reacting after the crafting queue stops.

Before the Sulfur Quarry is available, deposits in the overworld are the dependable source. The current base-location guide places the quarry at technology level 46; until that unlock, your practical choices are a route, a dedicated base near a cluster, or a combination of both. The level-46 placement is documented at Palworld.tools’ base-location guide.
Mount Obsidian route: the best quick mining stop
What the coordinate means
Palguides’ 1.0 route guide identifies approximately (-630, -440) near the Mount Obsidian summit as a sulfur location. Treat the number as a navigation reference, not a guarantee that a deposit occupies the exact point on every map. Use the summit landmark and the visible atlas pin together.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
How to run it
- Open your current world map and identify the Mount Obsidian fast-travel point closest to the summit route.
- Before leaving, assign a Pal capable of mining and carry enough tools, food and inventory space for the deposits you expect to collect.
- Travel to the summit-area waypoint, then compare the terrain with the current atlas pin. If the pin is offset, follow the landmark rather than forcing the old number.
- Mine the sulfur deposits, check that the material reached your inventory, and leave through the same fast-travel network.
- Record the actual in-game position that worked in your own notes. This is more reliable for your world than copying a coordinate from a different atlas.
This route is attractive when you need sulfur immediately or when you do not want to spend a base slot. It is also a useful test: if the terrain is too dangerous, too steep or too dispersed for your party, you can reject the area without relocating a Palbox.
Foot of the Volcano: the strongest cited base area
Why it suits a permanent base
A current guide lists approximately (-744, -442) as a late-game sulfur-farming base option. The recommended area is south of the Foot of the Volcano fast-travel point, where a player can position a sulfur-and-ore mining base instead of repeatedly flying to deposits. This is the clearest cited choice for players who value local storage and labor over the shortest one-time trip.
Base-placement checks
Do not place a Palbox solely because the number looks ideal. Walk the area first and assess:
- Node density: Count the sulfur deposits you can reach without a long detour. A compact group is easier to assign and defend than scattered nodes.
- Buildable ground: Look for a sufficiently flat footprint for the Palbox, storage and work areas. A rich cluster is not useful if the base cannot be laid out safely.
- Fast-travel distance: The south-of-Foot-of-the-Volcano position should be reachable from its named fast-travel point, but verify the actual approach in your map version.
- Environmental conditions and danger: Volcanic terrain can impose conditions that affect travel and workers. Bring the protection and combat support your current progression allows rather than assuming the route is safe.
- Nearby secondary resources: The area is described as suitable for sulfur and ore. Confirm that the particular cluster you choose contains the combination you need before committing the base slot.
The resource-map documentation distinguishes a dedicated mining base from route farming and notes that some sites combine several resources. That distinction is important: a site can be excellent for a sulfur run while being mediocre as a long-term base, or vice versa.

| Your situation | Choose | Reason | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| You need ammunition now and have no spare base slot | Mount Obsidian route | Immediate access without relocating infrastructure | Every stockpile requires another trip |
| You craft firearms or explosives continuously | Foot of the Volcano base area | Local mining and storage reduce repeated travel | Consumes a base slot and requires a workable layout |
| Your current fast-travel point is far from both volcanic options | Nearest atlas cluster | Travel time may outweigh the theoretical richness of a famous spot | Node count and terrain must be checked in person |
| You are below technology level 46 | Overworld route or dedicated base | The Sulfur Quarry is not yet available in the cited progression guide | Manual harvesting or early automation is still required |
| You are at or above level 46 but have not built the quarry | Compare quarry output with your base plan | Unlocking the structure can change the value of a remote sulfur site | The cited guide establishes the technology level, not a universal output rate |
“Best” is therefore a decision about your current fast-travel network, base slots, ammunition consumption and tolerance for environmental danger—not a single permanent pin.
Use an interactive atlas to find the nearest current cluster
PalMods reports 663 static sulfur placements grouped into 10 clusters in its 2026 Palworld 1.0 files. Palworld.tools also exposes an atlas listing 663 sulfur locations. Those totals are useful for route planning, but they do not make every listed coordinate interchangeable: a cluster may be far from your current base, difficult to build on, or represented with a different coordinate transform.
Atlas workflow
- Open a current sulfur layer and filter for sulfur rather than relying on a general resource view.
- Locate your present base or the fast-travel point you can reach most cheaply.
- Compare several nearby clusters. Favor a cluster with a short approach, enough buildable space and any secondary resource you need.
- Open the cluster’s landmark details and note the surrounding named location, not just the numeric coordinate.
- In game, travel to the landmark and use the terrain to identify the deposits. A pin that is offset by a coordinate transform can still point to the correct region.
- Only after confirming the nodes should you place a Palbox or designate the area as a repeatable route.
If two atlases disagree, do not average their numbers. Check which map version each dataset represents, then follow the landmark and the in-game pin that matches your 1.0 world.
Legacy coordinates worth checking as backups
A January 28, 2024 video lists the following sulfur waypoints:
| Waypoint | How to treat it now |
|---|---|
| (-453, -308) | Backup only; verify in a current 1.0 atlas |
| (-764, -286) | Backup only; verify in a current 1.0 atlas |
| (-739, -337) | Backup only; verify in a current 1.0 atlas |
| (-500, -509) | Backup only; verify in a current 1.0 atlas |
| (-470, -403) | Backup only; verify in a current 1.0 atlas |
| (-590, -401) | Backup only; verify in a current 1.0 atlas |
| (-599, -520) | Backup only; verify in a current 1.0 atlas |
| (-157, -114) | Backup only; verify in a current 1.0 atlas |
These numbers are not presented as guaranteed 1.0 locations. The source predates Palworld 1.0, while Palworld Companion says its own coordinates were re-checked for v1.0.4 on September 25, 2026. That difference explains why a legacy pin can appear empty or land away from the expected deposit.
Coordinate and map-version pitfalls
Older data can describe a different world state
The resource-map documentation labels some entries as pre-1.0. A pre-1.0 coordinate may still lead you to the right volcanic region, but it should not be treated as proof that a deposit remains at that exact point.
Rank #2
Coordinate systems can be transformed
Different atlases can use different coordinate sets or transforms. When numbers conflict, compare the named fast-travel point, biome and nearby landmarks. The landmark match is stronger evidence than a number copied between tools.
Nodes and pins are not the same thing
An atlas may count a static placement while your approach reveals only some of the nodes because of terrain, visibility or route choice. Confirm the actual deposits on foot before judging a cluster’s usefulness.
Do not commit a base before scouting
A sulfur-rich pin can fail as a base because the ground is uneven, the approach is exposed or the nodes are too spread out. Scout with your intended Palbox footprint in mind, then return with construction materials after the site passes your checks.

Before departure
- Choose a current map pin and write down its landmark name.
- Bring a mining-capable Pal, since the recommended Mount Obsidian route assumes one.
- Leave enough inventory capacity for sulfur and any ore collected at a combined-resource site.
- Plan for the volcanic area’s environmental conditions and possible combat instead of treating it as a neutral travel zone.
- Set a return point or identify the nearest fast-travel destination so a full inventory does not strand you.
At the deposits
- Mine the cluster systematically, moving from the outer edge toward the center so you do not miss a node behind terrain.
- Check your inventory after the first deposit; this catches tool, capacity or pickup problems before you spend the whole trip.
- Mark any node that is awkward to reach. A route that is technically rich may be inefficient if several placements require long detours.
After the run
- Store sulfur near your ammunition or explosive production area.
- Record the actual landmark and route that worked in your world.
- Compare the haul and travel effort with your consumption. If repeated runs interrupt crafting, rescout the Foot of the Volcano base area or the nearest atlas cluster.
What to do when a listed coordinate fails
The pin is empty
Check the map’s version label first. If it is pre-1.0 or undated, switch to a current atlas and search by the surrounding landmark. Do not assume the resource was removed solely because the old number failed.
The pin lands in the wrong terrain
Look for a coordinate transform mismatch. Use the fast-travel name and biome to orient yourself, then search the immediate cluster rather than walking to an arbitrary numerical endpoint.
You found sulfur but cannot build there
Separate route value from base value. Keep the location as a harvesting waypoint and evaluate another nearby cluster for flatter ground, safer access or a better secondary-resource mix.
The route takes too long
Use the atlas to compare clusters from your current fast-travel network. The nearest workable cluster can outperform a famous location when your ammunition demand is steady and travel is repeated.
Practical progression plan
Before technology level 46
Build your supply around overworld deposits. Start with the Mount Obsidian route if it is reachable, or choose the closest verified cluster to your existing base. A dedicated base is worthwhile only when the node density and travel savings justify using a base slot.
At technology level 46
The cited base-location guide places the Sulfur Quarry at this technology level. Reassess your production plan when it becomes available: compare the quarry’s place in your technology progression with the cost of maintaining a remote mining base. The level unlock itself does not establish a universal production rate, so keep a verified overworld route as a fallback until your own setup meets demand.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhen ammunition demand rises
Move from occasional route farming to a scheduled loop or local base. Use your actual gunpowder consumption to decide how often to restock; the right cadence depends on how much you craft and how many combat activities you run.
Final recommendation
Use (-630, -440) near Mount Obsidian as the first waypoint for a fast sulfur run. Use approximately (-744, -442) south of the Foot of the Volcano fast-travel point when you are ready to test a permanent sulfur-and-ore base. In either case, confirm the current atlas pin and in-game landmark first. Legacy coordinates are useful leads, not guarantees, and the Sulfur Quarry does not appear in the cited progression guide until technology level 46.
