The best PS5 accessory depends on the interruption you want to remove. Buy an extra DualSense first for local multiplayer or a backup, add the DualSense Charging Station if controllers are often empty, choose a PlayStation wireless headset for positional audio and chat, and install a compatible officially licensed SSD when storage is the problem. The Media Remote is worthwhile mainly for streaming; Portal, camera, VR and accessibility hardware are more specialized choices.

1. Add a second DualSense controller

How to use it
- Connect the station’s power cable and place it on a stable surface near the console.
- Seat each controller on a charging contact after play.
- Leave both controllers docked between sessions so the next player starts with a charged pad.
The dock is most valuable with two controllers. If you own only one and already have an accessible USB-C cable, it is a convenience purchase rather than a requirement.

4. Expand storage with a compatible PS5 SSD
Modern games can fill the console quickly. PlayStation’s current accessory catalog lists an officially licensed Western Digital SN850P SSD with capacity of up to 8TB. An internal expansion drive lets you keep more PS5 titles installed instead of repeatedly downloading them.
Check these requirements before purchase
- Console model: verify that the drive is supported by your exact PS5, including slim and Pro variants.
- Interface and performance: use an M.2 drive meeting Sony’s current PS5 speed and size requirements.
- Heatsink: confirm that the SSD includes a compatible heatsink or add one that fits the console bay.
- Capacity and license: check the exact model, capacity and official compatibility; names and bundles can change.

It does not improve frame rate, loading, image quality or game controls. For a PS5 used only for games, spend the money on a controller, charging solution or storage instead.
6. Consider specialized accessories only for a specific use
PlayStation Portal remote player
Portal is designed for compatible PS5 games through Remote Play over home Wi-Fi. Treat a stable wireless network and game compatibility as prerequisites; it is not a replacement for a PS5 and does not make every title playable away from the console.
PlayStation Access controller
Access is an accessibility-oriented controller option. Its value depends on the player’s control needs, preferred mounting or input arrangement and any other compatible accessories. Plan the complete setup rather than assuming it is a universal replacement for DualSense.

Camera and VR hardware
These are worthwhile only for games and experiences that support them. They should follow a particular use case, not a generic accessory checklist.
Energy-saving charging behavior
Sony’s adaptive-charging announcement reports that, under its stated slim-PS5 and PS5 Pro conditions, completed-accessory charging can reduce console energy use by up to 80 percent. The figure is a maximum under those conditions, not a guaranteed saving for every console, accessory or charging pattern.
