Black Desert: Traveler Edition is the game at the center of the reported policy. GamingBible reported on 3 April 2025 that anyone who bought the PS4 version—or claimed it through PlayStation Plus—would qualify for a free PS5 version. The report also said save data and purchases made later would carry over, while PS5 owners would receive an automatic update.
“No PS Plus needed” does not mean the game is being given away to every PlayStation owner. It means a qualifying license is required, but that license could come from a purchase or a previous PlayStation Plus claim; the upgrade itself reportedly does not require an active subscription.

What the reported Black Desert upgrade includes
The reported move is from the PS4 edition of Black Desert: Traveler Edition to a PS5 version. According to the 3 April 2025 GamingBible report, both ownership routes below qualify:
| How you obtained the PS4 game | Reported PS5 entitlement | What reportedly carries over |
|---|---|---|
| Bought the game | Free PS5 upgrade | Save data and additional purchases |
| Claimed it through PlayStation Plus | Free PS5 upgrade | Save data and additional purchases |
The report describes the PS5 release as an upgrade for existing license holders, not as a new free-to-play entitlement. A player who never owned or claimed the PS4 edition should not assume the report grants access to the game.

Do PlayStation Plus claimants get the free PS5 version?
Yes, according to the report. Players who redeemed Black Desert: Traveler Edition through PlayStation Plus were described as eligible for the free PS5 upgrade, alongside people who purchased it.
That distinction matters because PlayStation upgrade rules can differ by game. GamingBible’s report quoted a subscriber reacting to the policy: “So the folks that claimed it through PS Plus get the free upgrade? I’m excited to try the new version, the PS4 one looked really blurry and awful.” The commenter was identified only as a subscriber, not as an official representative.

What happens to your save and purchases?
Save data
The report says save data carries from the PS4 version to the PS5 version. It does not specify a manual transfer procedure, cloud requirement, regional limitation or whether every type of account data is included. Before deleting the PS4 installation or changing consoles, keep any available backups and confirm the transfer prompt shown by your system.
Additional purchases
Purchases made after the original game acquisition were also reported to carry over. The article does not enumerate which items qualify, so treat that statement as applying to the purchases covered by the game’s account and entitlement system rather than assuming every unrelated PlayStation transaction transfers.

Do you need a PS5 to use the upgrade?
Yes. The reported free version is specifically a PlayStation 5 edition. A PS4 owner can retain the entitlement, but cannot run a PS5 build on PS4 hardware. To play it, you need access to a PS5 console and the account that owns or claimed the game.
For someone who already owns a PS5, GamingBible reported that the game would update automatically. Automatic updating can depend on console settings, available storage and an internet connection, so check the game tile and download queue if no update appears.

What happens to the PS4 version?
The report says the PS4 version would no longer be available to download or play when the PS5 version arrived. That is more consequential than a normal cross-generation upgrade: it suggests players should not plan on switching back to the PS4 build after the change.

How this differs from another reported PS5 remaster policy
The Black Desert report stands out because it includes PlayStation Plus redemptions. GamingBible used Days Gone Remastered as a contrast in a 14 February 2025 article: its reported $10 PS5 upgrade applied to purchased digital or physical copies but excluded copies redeemed through PlayStation Plus.

| Game policy described in reporting | Purchased copy | PlayStation Plus redemption | Upgrade cost reported |
|---|---|---|---|
| Black Desert: Traveler Edition | Eligible | Eligible | Free |
| Days Gone Remastered | Eligible for the reported upgrade | Excluded | $10 |
The Days Gone wording was reproduced from a Reddit statement attributed to user kabirsingh84, not to Sony or another official spokesperson. It is therefore a comparison of reported policies, not a universal PlayStation rule.
What remains unconfirmed
The available reporting is secondary and does not establish an exact rollout date, regional eligibility, the final PlayStation Store wording, current availability or whether the policy has changed since April 2025. Players should check the listing and account entitlement on their own regional PlayStation Store and consult official information from PlayStation or Pearl Abyss before relying on the upgrade.
In practical terms, the reported path is straightforward: own or have previously claimed the PS4 game, sign in with that account on PS5, install the PS5 update, and verify your save and purchases. The “no PS Plus needed” part concerns the upgrade requirement; it does not remove the need to have a qualifying game license.
