What changed in Risk of Rain 2’s settings
Version 1.3.9, dated June 3, 2025, focused on memory optimization across platforms. Its update notes described expected performance improvements, particularly for low-end PCs and consoles, but did not quantify them with frame-rate benchmarks. The notes also said anti-aliasing would work correctly rather than being forced on, and that SSAO, Sobel Lighting, and Gamma Boost should function correctly. How to make Risk of Rain 2 run smoother
Tune against your own system rather than copying a preset. The available evidence does not establish which individual graphics option produces the largest FPS gain, so treat each change as a test, not a guaranteed fix.

- Choose a frame-rate limit to try. The PC options listed by PCGamingWiki are 30, 60, 120, or unlimited. As a practical starting point, choose a cap your system can sustain consistently; this is not a tested game-specific optimum, and unlimited is not automatically better.
- Adjust one visual option at a time. If performance remains unsatisfactory, lower a visual setting, then play through a comparable kind of scene and observe whether the experience improves. Avoid changing several options together, since that makes it harder to identify what helped.
- Test VSync based on what you see. VSync is toggleable and listed as off by default. Try changing it if your display behavior gives you a reason to; the available sources do not establish it as a universal performance boost.
Steam’s Windows minimum and recommended specifications can help you check whether your PC meets the listed requirements, but they do not promise a particular frame rate at your resolution, settings, or during a late-game run. Check the Steam listing for the Windows system requirements.

Settings for better visibility and readability
Field of view
Field of view (FOV) is adjustable on PC. Treat it as a visibility and preference choice: a wider or narrower view changes what you see on screen, but no cited source identifies a universally optimal value. Use a setting that lets you follow the action comfortably on your display.
Anti-aliasing
The PC options listed are off, FXAA, and SMAA. Compare them on your own screen: the sources document the choices, not which one is clearest or fastest for every system. The version 1.3.9 notes specifically addressed anti-aliasing behavior, so older advice that assumes the setting is forced on may be outdated.

Resolution and display mode
Keep the resolution you currently use unless you have a reason to change it. If you do compare resolutions or display modes, check both performance and whether text, enemies, and effects remain easy for you to distinguish. The available sources list these as adjustable PC display controls but do not prescribe a best combination.

What to expect from hardware requirements and platform differences
Steam publishes Windows minimum and recommended hardware requirements. Those specifications are reference points, not guarantees for a particular resolution, graphics mix, late-game run, or PC configuration. The settings inventory in this guide is for PC. Although the June 2025 update notes apply to all platforms, they do not establish identical console menus or platform-specific settings advice.
