This is an editorial shortlist, not an objective ranking or a complete 2024 chart. Because 2024 is now a historical frame, current store listings should not be treated as proof that a particular edition was available that year.
How to choose an Xbox One RPG
Start with the individual game’s product page and confirm that it lists Xbox One. A broad Xbox RPG catalogue is useful for discovering titles, but it does not establish that every listed edition runs on Xbox One—or that it was available in 2024. Native Xbox One support, backward compatibility, cloud play, and Xbox Series X|S support are distinct things.

- World: Decide whether you want a broad world to explore or a more directed adventure.
- Combat: Consider whether you prefer real-time action, turn-based battles, or tactical encounters; check the specific game’s description rather than assuming a style from its catalogue category.
- Role-playing: Look for the features that matter to you, such as character builds, player choices, party dynamics, or a strong narrative focus.
- Play arrangement: Check whether a game is single-player or offers local or online co-op, and make sure the product page describes the mode you want.
A verified Xbox One action-RPG pick
Elden Ring
Xbox lists Elden Ring for Xbox One, identifies it as an action RPG, and gives its release date as 25 February 2022. FromSoftware developed the game, and Bandai Namco published it. Xbox’s description emphasizes open areas and dungeons, customizable character builds, and online play. Its product copy calls it “THE NEW FANTASY ACTION RPG” and says, “Create your Own Character.”
Choose it if you want action-oriented combat, room to shape a character build, and exploration across open areas and dungeons. The official page also describes online capabilities, so check its current listing for the specific online options relevant to how you plan to play.
#1 Best Overall
- Save Morrowind: Stop a meteor from crashing into Vivec City by helping a demi-god regain his lost powers.
- Become the Warden: Harness the nature-based magic of an all-new class with a War Bear battle companion at your side.
- Partner with an Assassin: Aid a legendary elite member of the Morag Tong who will guide you through deadly political intrigue.
- Fight Together in PvP Battlegrounds: Take the battle to the Ashlands with new 4v4v4 player vs. player combat set in competitive arena-style environments.
Other RPGs to investigate carefully
Microsoft’s Xbox RPG catalogue names Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition, Fallout 4, Persona 5 Royal, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, and Dragon Quest XI S, among other titles. Use the catalogue as a discovery list, not as confirmation of Xbox One compatibility for every edition or historical availability in 2024. Verify the specific product page before choosing a game; the catalogue alone does not support assigning these titles particular combat systems, modes, or other game-specific features.
For period context, a Gameranx list framed around 2024 discussed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Skyrim, and Dragon Age: Inquisition as open-world RPG candidates. That list is editorial guidance, not an objective ranking, a consensus measure, or proof that a particular edition was available to every Xbox One owner during 2024.
Rank #2
- One person is all that stands between humanity and the greatest threat it’s ever faced.
- Relive the legend of Commander Shepard in the highly acclaimed Mass Effect trilogy with the Mass Effect Legendary Edition.
- Includes single-player base content and over 40 DLC from Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3, including promo weapons, armors, and packs - remastered and optimized for 4k Ultra HD.
Why Baldur’s Gate 3 is not on this Xbox One shortlist
Xbox’s Baldur’s Gate 3 product page lists Xbox Series X|S, PC, cloud, and handheld platforms, but does not list Xbox One. The page describes party-based role-playing and co-op, but those features do not make it a native Xbox One recommendation.
