Its two complete story paths put the fate of existence in the player’s hands. Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux offers a science-fiction crisis with additional story content and endings, while Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a related, more qualified pick about resisting a system built on perpetual conflict.
Those ideas are not interchangeable: ending a corrupt order is not necessarily the same as literally destroying a world. The games below differ in how directly their official descriptions support that premise.

Which RPG most directly makes the world’s future your choice?
Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance
Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is the clearest fit for players looking for a world-fate decision rather than a straightforward restoration story. Nintendo’s official Nintendo Switch listing describes two complete story paths: the original Canon of Creation, set amid an angel-and-demon conflict over the world’s fate, and the new Canon of Vengeance, centered on revenge by the fallen. Nintendo says the player’s choices dictate the fate of all existence.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

The protagonist becomes a Nahobino and must choose a path in the war between angels and demons. That combination—competing visions of the future, two distinct routes, and choices tied to existence itself—makes this the best-supported recommendation for “JRPGs where you remake the world.” The routes should be treated as separate story paths, not collapsed into one account of what happens or assumed to share the same outcome.
#1 Best Overall
- Total Warfare Edition includes additional playable characters, mini-games, and content previously available as DLC
- Combines roguelike-style deckbuilding with turn-based SRPGs for a brand-new experience
- Over 100 cards to collect and build a deck with, all with unique designs
Nintendo lists the game as released for Nintendo Switch on 14 June 2024. The official description establishes choices over existence’s fate; it does not require reading every possible route as literal destruction of the world.
Which older RPG turns an apocalypse into a science-fiction expedition?
Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux
Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux begins with a spatial distortion called the Schwarzwelt appearing in Antarctica and threatening to engulf Earth. The player is a United Nations soldier sent to investigate with a team of advanced specialists, giving the crisis an expedition-and-survival frame rather than the contemporary urban setting of Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance.
Rank #2
- Asdivine Hearts II- Power, feelings, and wishes cross each other. A journey that would determinate the world’s fate begins!
- Revenant Dogma- Transform to get your victory in dynamic turn-based battles!
- Fernz Gate - Support your allies or unleash powerful magic in tag-team during battles!
- Alvastia Chronicles - More than 100 companions with up to 13 party members! Sound composed by Ryuji Sasai
- Languages - Subtitles in English and Japanese.
Nintendo’s official Nintendo 3DS listing says Redux adds story content, endings, and a dungeon to the science-fiction RPG. That makes it a good choice for readers who want an Earth-threatening anomaly and branching conclusions. The listing does not establish the details or meaning of each ending, so it is more accurate to recommend it for its crisis premise and added endings than to claim that a particular route destroys or remakes the world.

What if you want a story about resisting the old order?
Xenoblade Chronicles 3
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a thematic companion rather than an exact, verified match for a “destroy the old world” premise. Nintendo describes Aionios as a setting where the worlds of the first and second games link together, while noting that each of the three games’ stories stands alone. Its official framing supports the linked-world angle, not a claim that the ending saves the future by destroying the old world.
In a Nintendo developer interview, director and MONOLITHSOFT executive director Tetsuya Takahashi describes two hostile nations whose young people unite against an “unreasonable power” that forces them to fight daily. As Takahashi puts it, “Then, young people from these two nations band together against this ‘unreasonable power’ that forces them to fight on a daily basis.” That makes the game a strong adjacent choice if the appeal is challenging a system that keeps the world in conflict, even when the more specific world-destruction interpretation is not established by these official sources.

How do the three games differ?
| Game | How closely it fits | Choice or story focus | Platform and availability context |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance | Strongest direct fit: Nintendo says choices dictate the fate of all existence. | Two complete paths: Canon of Creation and Canon of Vengeance. Their outcomes should not be treated as identical. | Nintendo Switch; Nintendo lists a 14 June 2024 release. |
| Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux | Strong apocalyptic premise: the Schwarzwelt threatens to engulf Earth. | Redux adds story content and endings; the official English listing does not detail their outcomes. | Nintendo 3DS; Wii U and 3DS eShop purchases ended 27 March 2023. Current physical stock is not established. |
| Xenoblade Chronicles 3 | Adjacent fit: resistance to a coercive order and a linked-world setting, not a verified old-world-destruction ending. | Young people from two hostile nations unite against the power compelling them to fight. | Nintendo describes the linked-world setting and says the three games’ stories stand alone; the cited sources do not establish further availability details. |
Which one should you choose?
- Choose Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance if you want the clearest official promise of choices over existence’s fate and two full story paths.
- Choose Strange Journey Redux if an Earth-threatening science-fiction anomaly and additional endings appeal more than a modern-day setting—and you have access to the Nintendo 3DS game.
- Choose Xenoblade Chronicles 3 if you are most interested in characters resisting a system that perpetuates conflict, while treating it as an adjacent thematic recommendation rather than a confirmed world-destruction story.
