Best Settings for Smooth Performance in Vaultbreakers (What You Can Actually Tune)

By VGSources Team 11 min read

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

There is no officially tested “best settings” preset for Vaultbreakers. The developer’s Steam materials publish hardware requirements and patch notes, but no graphics-option values, target frame rate, or controlled benchmarks. The reliable approach is to verify your PC against those requirements, start from the game’s available defaults, and change one available quality or resolution setting at a time while repeating the same gameplay situation.

The full game is not yet available on the current Steam listing; its release date is listed as “To be announced.” A demo is available, and the listing includes an Alpha PvPvE test scheduled for October 15–22. Treat performance observations as version-specific and check the current demo and patch status before drawing conclusions.

What “best settings” means for Vaultbreakers right now

For this game, “best” cannot responsibly mean a fixed preset such as “low,” “medium,” or “high.” The official listing does not name the graphics options, recommend values for them, state a target resolution, or promise a particular frame rate for either the minimum or recommended hardware. No official material reviewed here publishes FPS averages, frame-time measurements, or benchmark runs.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A useful definition is instead: the highest image quality your computer can hold consistently in the situations that matter to you. A repeatable method is more dependable than copying an unverified preset. Begin with the defaults in your current build, establish a baseline in a repeatable scene, then alter one setting at a time. Keep a short note of what changed and whether motion feels steadier, not just whether a menu counter rises.

Why a published requirement is not an FPS promise

Minimum and recommended specifications are compatibility thresholds. Meeting the recommended tier does not guarantee a particular frame rate, resolution, or frame-time consistency. Performance can vary with the current demo build, background applications, drivers, thermals, and the number of effects or enemies on screen. The developer has reported fixes for severe spikes and freezes, but those statements are not independent measurements and do not establish that every PC now runs smoothly.

Check your PC against the official requirements

Before changing graphics options, identify your processor, graphics card, memory, operating system, and free drive space. Compare them with the current full-game Steam listing, which was accessed on October 13, 2026. The listing requires DirectX 12 and broadband internet for both tiers and marks SSD storage as recommended.

Component Minimum Recommended
Operating system Windows 10 64-bit Windows 10 64-bit
CPU Four cores at 3.2 GHz Eight cores at 3.6 GHz
Memory 12 GB RAM 16 GB RAM
GPU GeForce GTX 960 or Radeon R9 380 GeForce GTX 1660 or Radeon RX 590
Graphics API DirectX 12 DirectX 12
Storage 10 GB available 10 GB available; SSD storage recommended
Connectivity Broadband internet Broadband internet

These are the values on the current full-game listing. Search results have shown different DirectX requirements for other entries, so verify the listing for the build you are installing rather than assuming every Vaultbreakers package has the same requirement.

If your PC is below minimum

A settings change may reduce load, but it cannot make unsupported hardware equivalent to the listed minimum. If the processor has fewer than four cores at the stated speed, the graphics card is below the GTX 960/R9 380 class, or the system has less than 12 GB of RAM, expect that some stutter or instability may remain even after lowering available options. Test the demo if you can, and treat any result as a limitation of that build and hardware combination rather than a guaranteed full-release result.

If your PC sits between minimum and recommended

Prioritize consistency over maximum image quality. Start at the default resolution and quality values exposed by your build. If motion is uneven, reduce one available quality control or resolution control, test the same scene, and keep the change only if it improves consistency without making the image unacceptably soft. There is no official evidence identifying which individual option has the largest performance effect, so avoid assuming that a particular control is always the first one to lower.

If your PC meets or exceeds recommended

Use the defaults as a baseline rather than treating the recommended tier as a guaranteed high preset. If the game remains smooth in quiet areas but stutters during fights or enemy spawns, reproduce that busy situation while testing. A faster GPU may not address a CPU, memory, storage, or build-specific problem, and the official listing supplies no frame-rate target against which to claim success.

A cautious, repeatable tuning procedure

The following process is general troubleshooting guidance, not a tested Vaultbreakers preset. It is designed for a demo or test build whose menu labels and available controls can change.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Record the starting point. Note your display resolution, the game’s default quality selection, whether a frame-rate counter is available, and the scene in which you notice the problem. Use the same scene for every comparison.
  2. Close avoidable background work. Pause downloads, recording jobs, browser tabs that are using substantial resources, and other programs that compete for CPU, memory, or storage activity. Do not treat this as a substitute for meeting the published requirements.
  3. Play long enough to reproduce the issue. A menu or an empty area cannot represent a high-load encounter. If the complaint is a freeze or spike during combat, test during comparable combat rather than in a quiet lobby.
  4. Change one available control. If the build exposes a quality preset, resolution, resolution scale, or individual quality controls, adjust only one of them. The official materials do not confirm a fixed set of option names, so use the labels shown in your version.
  5. Repeat the same situation. Return to the same map area or type of encounter and compare motion, hitching, and image clarity. Keep a change only when it improves the symptom you are targeting.
  6. Write down the result. A simple note such as “lowered one quality control; combat hitch was less noticeable; image remained clear” prevents you from making several changes and losing track of the cause.
  7. Stop when the trade-off is no longer worthwhile. Lowering every option can make the game look worse without solving a CPU- or network-related problem. Restore the last change if it did not help.

Choose a goal before you tune

  • Performance consistency: prioritize fewer pauses and steadier motion in the busiest encounter you can reproduce.
  • Image clarity: keep the highest resolution and quality combination that remains comfortable during that same encounter.
  • Fast diagnosis: make larger, temporary changes first to determine whether graphics load is involved, then refine one control at a time.

The available evidence does not quantify the image-quality/performance trade-off for any specific Vaultbreakers setting. Your own repeatable comparison is therefore the appropriate basis for a final choice.

How to decide which available control to test

Because the official materials do not publish a graphics-menu map, do not assume that a familiar option has a documented impact in this game. If your build offers a preset, use it only as a temporary diagnostic: moving from the default to a visibly lower level can show whether overall rendering load is involved. Once you learn that graphics load matters, return toward the original level and test individual controls one by one.

Resolution and resolution scale are image-clarity decisions as well as performance decisions. Lower one only far enough to make a meaningful comparison, then check text, edges, and motion in the same encounter. If a reduction makes the picture softer but does not change the hitch, restore it and test another available control. The absence of an improvement is useful information; it suggests that the problem may not be controlled by that setting.

Do not change several options together and then credit the last change you remember. A combined “everything low” test can answer only a narrow question—whether a broad reduction helps—not which control is responsible. Keep a record of the original values so you can return to them after diagnosis.

Diagnose the symptom before blaming settings

Low or uneven rendering performance

If the image itself slows, hitches, or becomes uneven while network indicators remain normal, test an available quality or resolution control using the procedure above. Compare a quiet area with a busy encounter. A change that helps only when many effects or enemies are present may be reducing rendering load; it is not proof that the same control is the universal best choice.

Freezes and major spikes

The developer’s October 2026 announcement feed reports: “Fixed major performance spikes and freezes during gameplay.” That is a developer-reported change statement, not a measured result for every configuration. If your current demo still freezes, confirm that the game is updated, reproduce the issue in the same situation, and note whether it occurs only during a particular encounter. If it persists after updating, report the exact build, hardware tier, and repeatable steps through the game’s current support channel rather than assuming a graphics preset will correct it.

Instability during enemy spawns or other heavy moments

The same official update feed says it “Improved stability during high-load situations such as enemy spawns.” This identifies a reported area of work, not a guarantee that all spawn-related hitching is gone. Test the current demo in a comparable high-load event. If lowering an available graphics control changes the symptom, keep that change; if it does not, the cause may not be a graphics-quality setting.

Online lag, rubber-banding, or delayed actions

Broadband internet is listed as a requirement, but the official materials provide no network-tuning steps and no evidence that upgrading an internet connection fixes local frame drops. Separate the symptoms:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Frame-rate or frame-time trouble affects the smoothness of the rendered picture on your screen.
  • Network trouble appears as delayed responses, teleporting players or enemies, or actions arriving late even when the picture is otherwise fluid.

Changing resolution cannot repair an internet path problem, and faster internet cannot automatically repair a GPU or CPU bottleneck. Diagnose the category first so that you do not lower image quality to solve the wrong fault.

How to use an SSD recommendation correctly

The developer recommends SSD storage and lists 10 GB of available space. The listing does not say that an SSD increases FPS, and no official benchmark establishes such a gain. An SSD can therefore be a sensible installation choice when your PC supports the drive and you need faster storage behavior, but it should not be presented as a guaranteed frame-rate upgrade.

Check your computer’s drive interface, physical size, free capacity, and operating-system compatibility before buying anything. If the game is already installed on an SSD and you still experience spikes, moving it again is unlikely to be a proven fix by itself. Continue with the one-change test and the current-build check instead.

Demo, Alpha test, and release-status caveats

The current official Steam listing says the full game is not yet available and gives a release date of “To be announced.” It offers a demo download and lists an Alpha PvPvE test for October 15–22. The developer’s official announcement dated October 8, 2026 says the demo is live. Builds in this stage can change their defaults, options, asset streaming, and performance behavior, so a setting that feels good in the demo should not be treated as a permanent full-release recommendation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When you compare results over time, record the date and build context. Recheck the current listing and patch notes after an update, especially if a problem appeared suddenly or a previously useful adjustment stopped helping.

When a hardware change is justified

Use the published tiers as a decision boundary, not as a shopping list. If your system is below 12 GB of RAM or below the listed GTX 960/R9 380 graphics class, a hardware change may be more meaningful than progressively lowering image quality. The official listing does not endorse a particular replacement model, and it does not quantify the performance gain from any upgrade.

  • Memory: compare installed RAM with the 12 GB minimum and 16 GB recommendation. Confirm that an upgrade is compatible with your motherboard and operating system.
  • Graphics: compare your GPU with both listed pairs. A card below minimum is a compatibility concern; a card between the tiers may require a more conservative quality/resolution balance.
  • Processor: compare core count and stated clock tiers. A graphics upgrade alone may not resolve heavy-encounter stalls when the CPU is the limiting component.
  • Storage: treat the SSD note as a storage recommendation, not an FPS promise, and verify your PC’s interface before purchasing.

No official prices or measured upgrade gains are published. Before spending money, compare the total cost of a compatible component with the value of simply testing the demo at lower available settings. Do not buy a component solely because a generic preset guide claims it will deliver a particular frame rate; the official materials publish no such guarantee.

Practical checklist before each performance test

  • Confirm that you are testing the current demo or test build.
  • Write down your CPU, GPU, RAM, Windows edition, and installation drive.
  • Compare those components with the minimum and recommended tiers.
  • Use the same resolution, scene, and type of encounter for each comparison.
  • Change one available quality or resolution control at a time.
  • Judge both motion consistency and image clarity.
  • Separate rendering symptoms from online delay.
  • Check for current patch notes when freezes or spikes persist.
  • Keep the last change only if it improves the symptom you set out to fix.

The defensible answer to the title

There is no sourced, universally best Vaultbreakers settings preset today. The most reliable starting point is the game’s available defaults, followed by controlled one-at-a-time adjustments after you compare your PC with the official requirements. The current materials establish the minimum and recommended hardware, an SSD recommendation, a live demo and unannounced full-game release, and developer-reported fixes for spikes, freezes, and high-load stability. They do not establish exact option values or a frame-rate result. Treat every setting choice as a version- and hardware-specific troubleshooting decision until measured guidance is published for a stable release.

Will an SSD increase my FPS?

The developer recommends SSD storage, but the listing does not claim that an SSD raises frame rate and provides no benchmark proving such a gain.

Why do I still get freezes after lowering settings?

Confirm that the current demo is updated and reproduce the same situation. The developer reported fixes for major spikes, freezes, and high-load stability, but those statements are not guarantees for every PC. Record your build and hardware and contact the current support channel if the issue persists.

Can faster internet fix stuttering?

Not automatically. Broadband is a listed requirement, but no official material provides network-tuning steps or evidence that an internet upgrade fixes local rendering drops. Separate delayed online actions from an uneven rendered image.

Is the full game released?

The current Steam listing says the full game is not yet available and gives a release date of “To be announced.” A demo is available, and an Alpha PvPvE test is listed for October 15–22.

The Bottom Line

Start with your build’s defaults, compare your CPU, GPU, RAM, and storage with the official tiers, and test one available graphics or resolution control at a time in a repeatable high-load scene. No official preset or FPS guarantee exists yet, so treat the demo’s results as version- and hardware-specific.
