1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFor a practical starting point on PC, lower Background Swarm Size to Medium or Low if frame rates fall during large fights. If the GPU is the limit, try Shadows: Medium, Screen Space Reflections: Low, Volumetrics: Low and Effects: Medium. Keep textures high when your graphics card has enough VRAM. These are starting settings, not a universal best: Space Marine 2 can be CPU-limited, in which case lowering resolution or enabling upscaling may do little.
Start with these settings
Change one setting at a time in a demanding, repeatable scene. That makes it easier to tell whether a change improved frame rate or frame-time consistency enough to justify its visual cost.
| Setting | Starting point | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Background Swarm Size | Medium; try Low if large encounters dip | Can help when enemy simulation is contributing to a CPU limit. Smaller swarms may make the largest hordes look less populated. PC Optimized Settings reported a 3–5% improvement in its tests; Tier1Settings gives a similar estimate. Both figures are publisher-specific, not guaranteed gains. PC Optimized Settings; Tier1Settings. |
| Shadows | Medium | A reasonable GPU-load reduction to test. PC Optimized Settings measured only a 1–2% difference in its scenes, so the benefit may be modest on your system. PC Optimized Settings. |
| Screen Space Reflections | Low for performance; Default if you prefer the image | Recommendations differ by test system: Tier1Settings recommends Low, while PC Optimized Settings found Default barely slower than Off in its tests. Compare in a scene where reflections are visible. Tier1Settings; PC Optimized Settings. |
| Volumetrics | Low when GPU-limited | May cost more in large open battles. PC Optimized Settings reported up to a 5% frame-rate reduction in those test conditions; Low can also make fog, lighting and particles look less full. PC Optimized Settings. |
| Effects | Medium if combat causes dips | One guide identifies Effects as demanding in horde combat, while another reports a smaller average cost in its tests. Keep it higher if the visual difference matters more than the performance change on your PC. Tier1Settings; PC Optimized Settings. |
| Textures and filtering | High with 8 GB or more of VRAM at 1080p or 1440p; Medium is a sensible test on 6 GB cards if stuttering suggests memory pressure | Texture needs vary with resolution and scene. Tier1Settings advises High at 8 GB or more and Medium at 6 GB or less. PC Optimized Settings reported up to 6.25 GB of VRAM use at 1080p, 7 GB at 1440p and 10 GB at 4K on its tested setup; these are not universal requirements. Tier1Settings; PC Optimized Settings. |
| Upscaling | Try DLSS on supported RTX cards or FSR on a wider range of hardware; start with Quality | Upscaling renders below the output resolution and can help when the GPU is limiting performance, at some cost to image clarity. Try a lower-quality mode only if Quality does not meet your target. At 1080p, native rendering or DLAA may look preferable if your GPU has headroom; compare on your display. |
| Frame generation | Optional; test after checking base frame rate and latency feel | Supported implementations include DLSS and FSR frame generation, but the cited sources do not establish a universally best setting or a reliable gain across hardware. Generated frames do not by themselves resolve a CPU or GPU bottleneck. |
Find out whether the CPU or GPU is holding performance back
Do not change every option at once. Use the same demanding scene and compare average FPS as well as how consistent the frame times feel during combat; a single average can conceal short dips.
- Establish a baseline. Note your resolution, current settings and performance in a repeatable encounter.
- Test resolution or upscaling. If reducing resolution or enabling upscaling makes little difference, the GPU may not be the main limit. That is a clue, not a diagnosis: an independent analysis found CPU-bound behavior across resolutions on its test rig, but other PCs and scenes can behave differently. PC Optimized Settings.
- Try Background Swarm Size. If large fights are where performance drops, compare Medium and Low. Keep the setting higher if the less populated horde is not worth the gain.
- Test GPU-heavy options. If GPU use is high and lowering resolution helps, try Volumetrics Low, Shadows Medium and Screen Space Reflections Low individually. Restore any setting whose visual cost outweighs the measured benefit on your system. Tier1Settings; PC Optimized Settings.
- Address possible VRAM pressure. If you have a 6 GB card and see texture-related stuttering, test Medium textures and filtering. Check whether the result improves in the same scene before changing other settings.
Check whether your PC meets the game’s listed targets
Saber Interactive lists a minimum target of 30 FPS at 1920×1080 on Low, and a recommended target of 60 FPS at 1920×1080 on Ultra. These are vendor targets, not a promise of the same frame rate in every encounter or game update.

| Requirement | Minimum target | Recommended target |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | AMD Ryzen 5 2600X or Intel Core i5-8600K | AMD Ryzen 7 5800X or Intel Core i7-12700 |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics card | 6 GB Radeon RX 580 or GeForce GTX 1060 | 8 GB Radeon RX 6800 XT or GeForce GTX 3070 |
| Target listed by Saber Interactive | 30 FPS at 1920×1080 on Low | 60 FPS at 1920×1080 on Ultra |
| Storage and graphics API | SSD, 75 GB available storage; DirectX 12 | SSD, 75 GB available storage; DirectX 12 |
These specifications come from Saber Interactive’s PC requirements page. A graphics card with more VRAM can provide extra headroom at high resolutions, but it is not a fix for every stutter or CPU limit.
Choose DLSS, FSR or frame generation based on your hardware
Upscaling and frame generation address different parts of the experience. Upscaling can reduce GPU rendering work; frame generation can add generated frames, but you should judge the result by both perceived smoothness and input responsiveness.
