Jingubang is the best all-purpose staff in Black Myth: Wukong, thanks to its 135 Attack, 6% Critical Hit Chance, and ability to preserve the fourth Focus Point. However, Qing Mallet is stronger for reliable See Through players, Adept Spine-Shooting Fuban Staff leads critical-hit builds, and Leeching Centipede Staff offers the best sustain.
This ranking reflects the current weapon lineup, including the three staffs added in the December 2024 Challenge update. The latest official Steam patch listed for the game is version 1.0.21.23831, released January 14, 2026, with no reported weapon-stat or staff-effect changes. Read the official patch history.

Attack and Critical Hit Chance are useful comparisons, but they do not determine the ranking by themselves. A lower-Attack staff can be better when its passive matches your stance, Focus generation, status effects, or defensive setup.

S-Tier staffs: strongest overall choices
Jingubang — best all-purpose endgame staff
Jingubang has 135 Attack and 6% Critical Hit Chance. Its defining passive prevents the fourth Focus Point from depleting over time. That makes it much easier to hold a fully charged fourth Focus Point while waiting for a boss opening, then spend it on a powerful charged Heavy Attack.
Jingubang is obtained in Water Curtain Cave in Mount Huaguo after acquiring the four pieces of the Great Sage’s armor and the Somersault Cloud. It is therefore an endgame reward rather than a staff available during the normal early or mid-game route.
Choose it if: you want the most dependable general-purpose endgame staff, especially for charged-heavy attacks and flexible boss encounters.
Qing Mallet — best for See Through players
Qing Mallet has 140 Attack, the highest listed Attack value for a staff in the current weapon data. After a successful See Through, it continuously grants Focus for a short period.
The passive is powerful but demanding. It rewards accurate timing and aggressive use of See Through, not passive Focus generation. If you rarely perform See Through, its practical value falls behind Jingubang despite the higher Attack.
Qing Mallet is earned through the “Collective Strength” battle challenge in Gauntlet of Legends and upgrades from Spikeshaft Staff.
Adept Spine-Shooting Fuban Staff — best critical-hit staff
Adept Spine-Shooting Fuban Staff has 120 Attack and a 25% Critical Hit Chance—the highest listed critical-hit value among the current staffs.

Its charged Heavy Attack restores a small amount of Health for each Focus Point spent and fires spines at nearby enemies. The healing is tied to successfully landing the charged Heavy Attack, so it is limited sustain rather than constant regeneration.
This staff is crafted in New Game Plus as an upgrade from Spider Celestial Staff. It is an excellent choice for critical-hit builds and players who regularly build and spend Focus through charged heavies.
Leeching Centipede Staff — best sustain staff
Leeching Centipede Staff has 130 Attack and 15% Critical Hit Chance. Every move that consumes Focus restores a small amount of Health when it hits an enemy, with healing greatly increased against Poisoned enemies.
Unlike earlier Centipede staffs, its base healing is not restricted to charged Heavy Attacks. Poison increases the amount restored; it does not enable the effect in the first place. The strongest version of this build combines the staff with reliable poison application and Focus-spending attacks.

It is crafted after completing the “Shadowy Assembly” challenge in Gauntlet of Legends and upgrades from Visionary Centipede Staff and Chitin Staff.
Fanged Cyan Staff — best all-stance elemental-bane option
Fanged Cyan Staff has 132 Attack and 12% Critical Hit Chance. A four-Focus-Point Heavy Attack applies a different bane based on the active stance:
- Smash Stance: Chill Bane
- Pillar Stance: Scorch Bane
- Thrust Stance: Shock Bane
This flexibility makes it valuable for players who deliberately change stances and can reliably reach four Focus Points. It is less attractive if you use one stance exclusively or seldom complete four-Focus-Point heavies.
Rank #3
- 8BITDO ULTIMATE 2C WIRELESS CONTROLLER - MINT
Fanged Cyan Staff comes from the “Relic Holders” challenge in Gauntlet of Legends and upgrades from Bishui Beast Staff.

1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsDark Iron Staff — best Defense-scaling staff
Dark Iron Staff has 110 Attack and increases Attack based on Defense. It has no listed Critical Hit Chance bonus, so its performance depends on how much Defense your armor, curios, and other equipment provide.
It is especially strong for high-Defense New Game Plus setups, but it is not automatically the best staff for every build. A low-Defense character will not receive its full benefit. Dark Iron Staff upgrades from Staff of Blazing Karma in New Game Plus.
A-Tier staffs: excellent, but more specialized
Golden Loong Staff
Golden Loong Staff is the clearest Pillar Stance choice. It increases the damage of all Pillar Stance moves and can summon a loong to strike during Pillar Stance Heavy Attacks costing three or four Focus Points. It is a better fit for a committed Pillar build than a neutral setup.
Stormflash Loong Staff
Stormflash Loong Staff has 140 Attack and 9% Critical Hit Chance. While charging, it draws Thunder, and while an enemy is in a Shocked State, every staff attack deals Thunder damage. It is the natural New Game Plus upgrade from Kang-Jin Staff for shock-focused builds, but its specialization makes it less universal than Jingubang.
Staff of Blazing Karma
Staff of Blazing Karma has 100 Attack and is the strongest normal-playthrough choice for Smash Stance charged heavies. It adds Defense and Burn Resistance and creates a lava effect when a Smash Stance charged Heavy Attack costs more than three Focus Points.
In New Game Plus, Dark Iron Staff can overtake it when your build has very high Defense. Otherwise, Staff of Blazing Karma remains the more direct Smash Stance option.

Spider Celestial Staff and Visionary Centipede Staff
These are strong poison-oriented choices before the later Gauntlet staffs become available. Spider Celestial Staff has 85 Attack and 12% Critical Hit Chance, while Visionary Centipede Staff has 90 Attack and 10% Critical Hit Chance. Both are useful stepping stones toward Leeching Centipede Staff.
Spikeshaft Staff
Spikeshaft Staff has 80 Attack and is a See Through-focused option before Qing Mallet becomes available. It is worth using when your build consistently lands See Through attacks, but Qing Mallet is the superior endgame version of that playstyle.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Bishui Beast Staff
Bishui Beast Staff has 105 Attack and a listed 1% Critical Hit Chance. Its passive makes it a strong neutral option late in the first playthrough, before the Challenge weapons and New Game Plus upgrades enter the picture. It is less specialized than the stance, poison, or shock alternatives.
B-Tier staffs: useful progression weapons
- Chitin Staff: 80 Attack and 8% Critical Hit Chance; useful for early poison setups and charged-heavy healing.
- Kang-Jin Staff: 70 Attack and 6% Critical Hit Chance; the earlier shock-oriented option before Stormflash Loong Staff.
- Rat Sage Staff: 66 Attack and 7% Critical Hit Chance; supports light-combo play and gives staff-spin attacks useful range.
- Loongwreathe Staff: 70 Attack; a practical early Pillar Stance choice.
- Cloud-Patterned Stone Staff: 60 Attack and +30 Defense; supports defensive builds and charged Heavy Attacks.
- Wind Bear Staff: 50 Attack and 4% Critical Hit Chance; improves Cloud Step’s Unveiling Strike and works well for early critical-hit setups.
C-Tier staffs: transitional and niche options
- Twin Serpents Staff: 40 Attack; improves light-combo finishers, with a stronger effect in water.
- Bronze Cloud Staff: 36 Attack and 2% Critical Hit Chance; an early-game Deluxe Edition exclusive claimed through “Trailblazer’s Gift” at a Keeper’s Shrine.
- Willow Wood Staff: 30 Attack; the starting weapon and an early replacement once crafting options open.
Best staff by playstyle and progression point
Best staff for a first playthrough
Bishui Beast Staff is the strongest practical late-game generalist before the Gauntlet weapons become available. Use Golden Loong Staff for Pillar Stance, Staff of Blazing Karma for Smash Stance, or Spider Celestial Staff and Visionary Centipede Staff for poison builds. Once you reach the Chapter 6 endgame requirements, switch to Jingubang if you want the most flexible overall option.
Best staff before endgame
For the late story before New Game Plus or Gauntlet of Legends, the best choices are Staff of Blazing Karma, Golden Loong Staff, and Bishui Beast Staff. Pick based on your build rather than Attack alone:
- Smash Stance charged heavies: Staff of Blazing Karma.
- Pillar Stance: Golden Loong Staff.
- Neutral damage: Bishui Beast Staff.
Best staff for Pillar Stance
Golden Loong Staff is the direct answer because it improves every Pillar Stance move and adds a loong Thunder attack to three- and four-Focus-Point Pillar Stance Heavy Attacks.
Best staff for Smash Stance
Use Staff of Blazing Karma during a normal playthrough. In New Game Plus, Dark Iron Staff may produce more damage if your equipment provides substantial Defense; otherwise, Blazing Karma’s direct charged-heavy bonuses are more reliable.

Best staff for poison builds
Leeching Centipede Staff is the strongest poison option overall. It heals on successful Focus-consuming attacks and significantly improves that healing against Poisoned enemies. Spider Celestial Staff and Visionary Centipede Staff are the earlier alternatives.
Best staff for shock builds
Stormflash Loong Staff is the specialized choice. It is designed around applying or maintaining Shocked State, then adding Thunder damage to staff attacks. Kang-Jin Staff is its earlier progression option.
Best early-game staff
Wind Bear Staff is the best early critical-hit and Cloud Step option. Cloud-Patterned Stone Staff is preferable for Defense and charged-heavy builds, while Twin Serpents Staff suits players who rely on light-combo finishers. Deluxe Edition owners can claim Bronze Cloud Staff through “Trailblazer’s Gift,” but it is still a transitional weapon.

Qing Mallet, Fanged Cyan Staff, and Leeching Centipede Staff are not ordinary story-progression rewards. They come from Gauntlet of Legends challenges, and the mode requires at least one completed game.
- Complete the main game at least once.
- Visit any Keeper’s Shrine.
- Select Challenge.
- Choose Gauntlet of Legends.
- Complete the relevant battle challenge:
- Collective Strength: Qing Mallet.
- Relic Holders: Fanged Cyan Staff.
- Shadowy Assembly: Leeching Centipede Staff.
If a gauntlet remains unavailable, check whether its corresponding opponents have been defeated in the main game. The official update notes explain the completion requirement and the related boss-unlock condition. Consult the official Challenge and Gauntlet announcement.
Common mistakes when choosing a staff
Choosing Jingubang for raw Attack
Jingubang is not the highest-Attack staff. Qing Mallet and Stormflash Loong Staff are listed at 140 Attack, compared with Jingubang’s 135. Jingubang ranks first overall because its fourth-Focus-Point passive is broadly useful.
Assuming all Gauntlet staffs are available on the first playthrough
They are not. Challenge becomes available at Keeper’s Shrines only after completing the game at least once.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Assuming Dark Iron Staff is always best in New Game Plus
Dark Iron Staff is a scaling weapon, not an automatic upgrade. Its value rises with Defense, so compare it with Staff of Blazing Karma and other options after considering your complete equipment setup.
Thinking Leeching Centipede Staff only heals against Poisoned enemies
Its base effect restores Health when a Focus-consuming move hits. Poisoned enemies substantially increase the healing, but poison is not required for the basic effect.
Assuming Fanged Cyan Staff applies one bane in every stance
The bane changes with the active stance, and the effect requires a four-Focus-Point Heavy Attack: Chill in Smash, Scorch in Pillar, and Shock in Thrust.
