Steam’s Autumn Sale runs from October 1 through October 8, 2026, ending at 10 a.m. Pacific, according to Valve’s Steamworks schedule. GameGrin’s 73-item “Rare Deals” roundup is a useful place to find less-frequent price cuts, but “rare” describes price history—not game quality. Check the current price in your own Steam region before buying.
What “rare deal” means—and what it does not
GameGrin says its roundup uses SteamDB’s rare-deal definition: “Previous low was 1.5+ years ago OR 50%+ price drop.” It also filters for games with more than 500 reviews. These rules identify price events and establish a minimum review volume; they do not certify that a game is good or right for you. GameGrin explicitly notes that its list is not quality controlled and may include Mixed-rated titles.

Use the list as a discovery tool, then judge each game separately. A large discount can still leave a game above its previous low, and a historical low is not a recommendation. Genre, review sentiment, price history, and your own interest matter more than the discount percentage alone.

How to tell whether a discount is actually worthwhile
- Start with your local Steam price. Prices are regional and can change. Open the game’s Steam page in your own account or storefront and confirm that the sale is active there.
- Look beyond the discount percentage. SteamDB marks historical context, including new historical lows, current two-year lows, and prices matching previous lows. Its deal-history indicators help distinguish these cases; a steep percentage cut by itself does not show whether the offer is unusually low.
- Check reviews and review volume. A high rating can help assess reception, while the number of reviews provides context. Neither replaces checking whether the game’s genre and play style appeal to you.
- Use filters to narrow the catalogue. SteamDB supports filtering by discount, reviews, genre, and other tags. PC Gamer, reporting a SteamDB count, noted 44,048 games under $5 during the Autumn Sale in 2026. That sale snapshot illustrates why price alone is a poor discovery filter; narrow by genre, features, release date, rating, and review count.
- Verify practical details on the game page. Check system requirements, controller support, and multiplayer or co-op details if those affect your decision. Those details vary by title and should not be inferred from a sale roundup’s genre labels.
- Check the deadline before checkout. Valve schedules the Autumn Sale to end October 8, 2026, at 10 a.m. Pacific. Confirm the offer is still live in your region before relying on that price.
Which list should you use?
- Use GameGrin’s 73 Rare Deals to browse a curated set with a more-than-500-review threshold and a price-history-based rare-deal label. Its list does not filter out every Mixed-rated game.
- Use SteamDB’s sale table when you want to compare live US sale snapshots, ratings, discounts, and historical deal markers, or filter the broader catalogue.
- Use your Steam storefront for the final local price and the title’s current store details. The listed US prices and sale listings are time-sensitive and do not establish what every regional store will show.
