SteamDB reported that The Outlast Trials reached 94,507 concurrent players on October 4, 2026, during a 90% Steam discount. SteamCharts’ captured page showed a lower peak of 71,799 for the same period, so the exact record depends on which tracker is cited. The timing makes the sale a notable audience-reach moment for publishers—but it does not prove the discount caused the surge or generated a profit.
What happened during the Steam sale?
On October 5, 2026, iXBT Games reported that The Outlast Trials had set a new Steam concurrent-player record the previous day, while discounted in Steam’s Autumn Sale. Steam’s listing showed a 90% promotion scheduled to end October 8, 2026. The offer was regional: iXBT reported a US price of $3.99 and a Russian price of 130 rubles, while SteamDB’s price history identified $3.99 as the lowest recorded US price. Those figures describe specific regional pricing, not a universal price.

Trials of Tempus Board Game - Standard Edition | $84.99 | Buy on Amazon |
The game was released on March 5, 2024, making the reported peak a post-launch high rather than a launch-week result. iXBT put its launch peak at 36,689 players, citing SteamDB. The same report said the game was fourth among Steam best sellers at the time and had 92% positive reviews; those are dated snapshots, not measures of current rank or review sentiment.
Why do SteamDB and SteamCharts show different peaks?
SteamDB was cited for a peak of 94,507 concurrent players on October 4, 2026. SteamCharts’ page, captured during the same period, showed an all-time and 24-hour peak of 71,799. These tracker snapshots conflict; neither figure should be silently substituted for the other or treated as a universally verified count. The 94,507 figure is the one reported by iXBT and an indexed SteamDB curator post.

Is The Outlast Trials still active?
The reported Steam peak indicates substantial concurrent activity on October 4, 2026. The Steam store describes the game as playable alone or in online co-op with teams of two, three, or four. A single peak cannot guarantee that matchmaking will be equally active later, in every region, or in every mode.
Steam’s official listing identifies Red Barrels as both developer and publisher, gives the March 5, 2024 release date, and lists single-player and online co-op features. It describes the game as a horror experience set during the Cold War.

The defensible takeaway is that a steep, time-limited discount coincided with a large rise in Steam activity for a game released more than two years earlier. That makes discounting one plausible way to bring a title back to players’ attention. It does not establish that the sale alone caused the spike: the available reports do not isolate the discount from other factors or provide a controlled comparison.

A 90% discount changes the price paid per copy, and the cited figures do not reveal how many sales were incremental or what Red Barrels received after platform fees and other costs. Without sales and revenue data, the record is an engagement result during a promotion—not proof that the discount paid off financially.
