Named Tier 4 thralls are generally the strongest followers in Conan Exiles. For combat, the names most often recommended are Relic Hunter Treasure Seeker, Dalinsia Snowhunter and Cimmerian Berserker. The right choice still depends on level scaling, role and how safely you can capture the NPC. This guide explains where thralls come from, how to capture and break them, which roles matter, and what has changed in the 2026 game versions.
What makes a thrall “the best”?
“Best” is not one universal ranking. A fighter, blacksmith and archer solve different problems, and a named Tier 4 NPC is not automatically the best choice for every base or level range. Compare candidates on four points:

- Tier and name: named Tier 4 NPCs are the usual top targets. They are rarer than ordinary workers and normally require a more dangerous capture.
- Scaling: some fighters have exceptional starting health and damage, while others overtake them after gaining levels. A low-level comparison can therefore produce a different result from a high-level one.
- Acquisition risk: a solo spawn is easier to knock out than a crowded camp or a Purge. A theoretically stronger thrall is not useful if you cannot extract it alive.
No primary source currently provides a complete, authoritative table of thrall strength, growth or capture rates. Treat community rankings as practical guidance rather than fixed game rules, and verify a candidate’s live-game attributes before committing resources.
Best fighter thralls
For most players, named Tier 4 fighters are the priority because they can survive difficult exploration, defend a base and absorb attacks that would otherwise reach the player. The following names recur most often in current recommendations, but their relative performance depends on level and patch behavior.

Relic Hunter Treasure Seeker
Relic Hunter Treasure Seeker is frequently described as the strongest long-term fighter. Reports say it can out-scale Dalinsia Snowhunter at high level, making it an attractive investment if you plan to train one follower over a long campaign. The important qualification is that this is a growth-based judgment, not a guarantee that every freshly captured Relic Hunter will outperform every other fighter immediately.
Dalinsia Snowhunter
Dalinsia Snowhunter is often credited with the highest base health and damage among the commonly compared fighters at lower levels. That makes her especially appealing when you need a powerful companion soon after capture rather than after extensive leveling. Do not confuse this name with “Dalinsia Treasure Seeker”: no reliable confirmation supports that separate name. The official listings instead identify Dalina the Shielded among Relic Hunters.
Cimmerian Berserker
Cimmerian Berserker remains one of the most consistently named high-end fighter options. It is a sensible target when you find a safe spawn and cannot reach a preferred Relic Hunter or Dalinsia. As with every fighter, inspect the individual NPC and its current attributes; a famous name does not remove level, perk or patch variance.
Daicas and Lian
Daicas and Lian are also cited as strong alternatives. Sources disagree on Daicas’s epithet, calling the NPC “the Sand-strewn” in one place and “the Sharp” in another. Use the name and appearance shown by your current game rather than relying on an old location guide or a copied list.

Which fighter should you pursue?
| Candidate | Why players pursue it | Best use of the information |
|---|---|---|
| Relic Hunter Treasure Seeker | Reported to overtake Dalinsia at high level | Long-term follower investment |
| Dalinsia Snowhunter | Reportedly very high starting health and damage | Immediate lower-level power |
| Cimmerian Berserker | Repeatedly recommended as a named elite fighter | Strong alternative when available |
| Daicas | Listed as a strong option, but epithet and data vary | Use only after checking the live NPC |
| Lian | Named among capable fighter choices | Practical substitute for rarer targets |
Best crafting thralls
For production, target named Tier 4 Blacksmith or Armorer thralls. Their value is not battlefield damage: they unlock recipes and crafting benefits that a fighter cannot provide. Place the correct specialist at the corresponding workstation, then check the station’s recipe list to confirm what the current game version makes available.
- Tier 4 Blacksmith: prioritize when your bottleneck is weapon or metal production.
- Tier 4 Armorer: prioritize when improved armor crafting is more important than weapons.
- Named status: a named Tier 4 crafter is generally the premium target, but the exact recipe set should be verified in-game because updates can alter workstation behavior.
Best archer thralls
Archer rankings are less certain than fighter rankings. A 2024 community list named Black Dragon Master Archer, Colvric the Blade and Accursed Berserker, but the list’s origin is not confirmed and it predates the current 2026 patch context. Treat those names as leads to investigate, not as a definitive tier list. Test an archer’s damage, survivability and line-of-sight behavior in your own base before replacing a reliable defender.

There are five practical acquisition routes. Capturing hostile NPCs gives you the broadest control over tier and role, while the other methods can be safer or more convenient when a suitable camp is out of reach.
Capture hostile NPCs
Knock out an NPC, bind it and transport it to a Wheel of Pain. This is the standard method for obtaining fighters and crafters from camps.

Free prisoners from cages
Prisoner cages appear in locations across the map. Freeing the occupant can provide a thrall without fighting through a full camp, although the available role and tier depend on the cage encounter.
Recruit at taverns
Taverns can offer recruits directly. This route is convenient when you are already travelling through a settlement, but the available selection is not under your control in the same way as a targeted camp capture.
Buy from merchants
Some merchants sell thralls. Merchant availability, cost and stock are dependent on the encounter, so check the current offer rather than assuming every merchant carries the same roles.
Complete companion quests
Companion quests provide named companions through progression instead of a conventional knockout. The current official listings identify Freya and Liu Fei as examples. Follow the quest requirements shown in your game and make sure you have space and the necessary base infrastructure before completing the recruitment step.

How to capture a thrall step by step
- Unlock the basics. One early progression route unlocks the Thrall Taker feat at level 10, along with a lesser Wheel of Pain. You also need a truncheon and bindings.
- Prepare a safe extraction route. Clear nearby enemies where possible, carry healing items and avoid starting a knockout in a group that can interrupt you. A solo spawn, such as the Stargazer’s Crest example used for Dalinsia, is easier to manage than a crowded camp.
- Equip a blunt weapon. Use a truncheon, blunted arrows or blunted javelins. These deal concussion damage rather than normal lethal damage. Watch the target’s health and unconsciousness meters so you do not kill the NPC.
- Knock the NPC unconscious. Continue applying blunt damage until the NPC falls. Stop attacking once the knockout is complete.
- Bind the unconscious NPC. Use bindings on the downed target. The bound NPC follows while you drag it, so return by the route you prepared instead of taking unnecessary fights.
- Place the captive on a Wheel of Pain. Add the bound NPC to an available slot and supply food. Gruel is the usual fuel for breaking thralls.
- Assign a Taskmaster. A Taskmaster at the wheel reduces the breaking time. Higher-tier Taskmasters provide larger bonuses, so assign your best available one when a valuable Tier 4 captive is waiting.
- Collect the broken thrall. When the process finishes, remove the thrall from the wheel and place it in the correct role: follower, guard or workstation specialist.
Wheel of Pain time, food and Taskmasters
There is no single reliable “thrall takes exactly X minutes” answer. Breaking time changes with the NPC’s tier and with the wheel and Taskmaster setup. Higher-tier NPCs take longer, while a Taskmaster shortens the process. Keep the wheel supplied with Gruel for the entire queue and check its progress rather than planning around an unverified universal timer.
- Small or lesser wheel: useful for early captures and initial progression.
- More wheel capacity: valuable when you are processing several captives, but it does not replace food or a Taskmaster.
- Better Taskmaster: the clearest way to reduce waiting time once you can obtain one.
- Protection: place the wheel inside a defensible base; losing an unfinished captive wastes the capture trip.
Where named Tier 4 thralls spawn
Named Tier 4 NPCs are associated with named camps and faction strongholds rather than ordinary random wilderness encounters. Frequently mentioned areas include the Volcano, the Black Galleon, Sepermeru, the Mounds of the Dead and other faction camps. Purges can also produce Tier 4 thralls.
One guide reports that Tier 4 thralls obtained during a Purge have higher stats than equivalent world spawns. Treat that as a version-sensitive community observation, not a guaranteed rule: confirm the attributes of the individual NPC after the encounter. Purges are also substantially more dangerous, so bring enough defenses and a retreat plan.
Choosing a safer capture site
- Solo spawn: best when you are learning the knockout process or targeting a valuable named NPC.
- Small named camp: offers more opportunities but requires clearing guards without damaging the target.
- Large stronghold: can contain desirable roles, yet extraction is harder and reinforcements can kill a bound captive.
- Purge: potentially better stats according to one guide, but the highest logistical and combat risk.
Common capture problems and fixes
The target dies instead of falling unconscious
Switch to a truncheon, blunted arrows or blunted javelins and stop using lethal attacks. Reduce incidental damage from pets and other followers before the final hits.

The wheel is not progressing
Check that Gruel is in the wheel’s inventory, the captive occupies a working slot and the wheel has not been damaged or disabled. Assign a Taskmaster if available; it changes the duration but does not remove the food requirement.
You cannot find the advertised NPC
Spawn points and names can change with patches, and some online pages are more than 1,000 days old. Search the named camp in the live game, check nearby variants and verify the NPC’s displayed name before assuming a guide is current.
2026 patch considerations
The Enhanced Edition fixed a problem in which some Tier 4 crafting thralls spawned with zero attributes and zero percent growth. The fix applies only to newly placed thralls. If an older crafter in your base still shows the faulty values, replacing it with a newly placed, correctly generated thrall may be necessary.
The first chapter of The Legacy of the Giant-Kings, reported for July 2026, added better death notifications for downed thralls. Those messages can help you identify when a follower was killed away from your view. Part Two is listed as released on October 6, 2026, but complete notes for any thrall changes were not available here; do not assume it altered fighter rankings or spawn tables without checking the in-game patch information.

- Level to the early capture unlock. Obtain the Thrall Taker feat at level 10, then craft a lesser Wheel of Pain, truncheon and bindings.
- Capture a safe, serviceable fighter. Do not risk a premium named target before you understand knockout damage and the route home.
- Secure Gruel production. A wheel without food turns a successful capture into an idle prisoner.
- Upgrade to a Taskmaster. The time reduction matters more as you begin breaking Tier 4 NPCs.
- Target a named Tier 4 specialist. Choose a fighter for exploration, a Blacksmith or Armorer for production, or an archer for a defensive position.
- Recheck every new placement. Inspect attributes, growth and perks after placement, especially on a recently updated edition.
Bottom line for choosing the best thrall
Start with a named Tier 4 fighter when combat is your priority: Relic Hunter Treasure Seeker is the strongest long-term candidate in many lists, Dalinsia Snowhunter is prized for early base power, and Cimmerian Berserker is a dependable named alternative. For production, use a named Tier 4 Blacksmith or Armorer. For archers, treat older community rankings as provisional. Capture with blunt damage, bindings and a Gruel-fed Wheel of Pain, then let a Taskmaster shorten the wait. Finally, verify the live NPC name and attributes before travelling across the map for a target whose guide may be out of date.
