If you want more long-haul freight driving, Euro Truck Simulator 2 is the closest match to American Truck Simulator (ATS). For a different kind of drive, choose SnowRunner for demanding off-road hauling, Forza Horizon 5 for open-world car racing, or BeamNG.drive for vehicle experimentation. The right pick depends on whether you want freight and career progression, difficult terrain, racing, or a sandbox—not on a universal ranking.
One update to the premise: ATS itself now has a car mode. SCS Software says its Road Trip: Ford DLC released on 29 September 2026 and unlocked Car Mode with four Ford vehicles. A dedicated car game still puts cars and their distinct driving loops at the center.

Euro Truck Simulator 2: the closest match for ATS players
If the appeal of ATS is planning long trips, driving a semi, and building a trucking business, start here. SCS Software describes ETS2 as a regularly updated driving simulator with licensed trucks, European territories, career progression, and company management. The core freight-simulation loop is familiar, while the setting changes from the United States to Europe.
That makes ETS2 the most natural next step if you want more of the same broad genre rather than a change to racing or off-road driving. Its appeal is the shift in routes and driving context, not a promise that it duplicates ATS.

SnowRunner: for difficult off-road hauling
Choose SnowRunner if the truck is still important but you want the ground beneath it to be the main obstacle. A comparison of the game with ATS describes mud, snow, water, and painstaking off-road driving as central to its challenge. It is a demanding terrain-focused alternative, not a direct substitute for highway freight and business progression.
Forza Horizon 5: for open-world car driving and racing
Forza Horizon 5 is the car-focused pick if you want to explore an open world and race rather than haul freight. The official Forza page describes a Mexico setting and says more than 40 content updates have introduced hundreds of cars, races, features, and gameplay experiences. Those are publisher-described quantities from the current official page; they are not an independent count or a guarantee that every platform or store listing presents identical content.

ATS now includes a car mode
SCS Software’s Road Trip: Ford DLC page dates the release to 29 September 2026 and lists four vehicles for Car Mode:
- 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback
- 2023 Ford F-150
- 2023 Ford Bronco
- 1998–2012 Ford Crown Victoria
This gives ATS players a way to drive cars within the game, but it does not make the recommendations interchangeable: ETS2 remains the closest fit for long-haul trucking, while the other games center off-road challenges, open-world racing, or vehicle experimentation.
