Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFor the best picture your setup can actually deliver, start at Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output on PS5 Pro. Set Resolution to Automatic, HDR to On When Supported, and leave Video Transfer Rate on Automatic. Turn on 120 Hz Output, VRR and ALLM when your TV and the game support them, then check the TV’s settings for the specific HDMI input you use. The connected display and port—not a universal “best” preset—determine which features are available.
Set the console to match your TV
Open Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output and check Current Video Output Signal and the connected HDMI device information. These show what the console detects from the TV and the current signal. If a feature you expect is missing, check the TV’s selected input and its HDMI settings before changing unrelated picture controls.

- Set Resolution to Automatic to let the console select the highest resolution reported by the display. If you need to test 4K explicitly, choose 2160p and verify the resulting signal.
- Enable 120 Hz Output if the TV supports it. This allows compatible displays and games to use 120 Hz output; it does not make every game render at 120 frames per second.
- Enable VRR if the TV supports it. Apply to Unsupported Games is optional: Sony says it can help stabilize frame rate, but advises turning it off if a game behaves unexpectedly.
- Enable ALLM where supported to let the TV switch automatically to a low-latency mode.
- Keep Video Transfer Rate on Automatic unless troubleshooting flicker.
On the TV, choose an HDMI input that supports the features you want and enable its gaming or enhanced HDMI format if required. Menu names and port capabilities vary by TV; check the manual for the exact model. HDMI 2.1 branding alone does not guarantee that a given port supports VRR or ALLM.

Choose the right HDR behavior
Set HDR to On When Supported if you want HDR games and apps to use HDR while non-HDR content remains in SDR. Always On converts non-HDR games and apps to HDR output, which may not match your preference.

Understand resolution, refresh rate and game modes
Resolution and frame rate are separate. A 4K/120 Hz signal requires a compatible TV input and suitable cable, and the game itself must offer a 120 FPS mode to render at that rate. Sony states that PS5 supports HDMI 2.1 and 4K 120 Hz output in its resolution and 4K/120 Hz support guide.

When a game offers graphics or performance modes, the choice is game-specific. PlayStation describes quality modes as generally prioritizing detail and performance modes as generally targeting smoother 60–120 FPS play, sometimes with reduced detail. A 120 Hz-capable TV therefore creates an opportunity, not a guarantee that every game will use it.

PSSR image quality
Leave Enhance PSSR Image Quality at its default On setting for compatible games unless you are investigating an issue in a particular game. Sony identifies this option as applying to supported CFI-7000 model-group consoles and compatible PSSR games; it is not a general image toggle for every PS5 title.

8K output
Allow 8K Output is conditional, not a baseline setting. PS5 Pro requires an 8K/60 Hz display with DSC for 8K output, and VRR is disabled while outputting in 8K. Enable it only if your display meets those requirements and you prefer that trade-off.
Troubleshoot missing 4K/120 Hz, VRR or a blank signal
If the console does not offer an expected mode, or the screen goes blank, check the signal path in order. Sony’s troubleshooting guidance recommends verifying the TV’s capabilities, firmware, cable, port and HDMI settings.

- Confirm the exact TV model and selected input support the desired signal, such as 4K at 120 Hz. Some TVs support features on only certain HDMI ports.
- Install current TV firmware and enable the manufacturer’s gaming or enhanced-format setting for that input if necessary.
- Connect the console directly to the TV while troubleshooting, bypassing receivers or other intermediate equipment.
- Use the cable supplied with the console or an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable rated for 4K/120 Hz. A replacement cable is not necessary if the existing connection works reliably.
- Set console resolution to Automatic or, for a 4K check, 2160p. Keep Video Transfer Rate on Automatic while diagnosing.
- Recheck Current Video Output Signal and the connected HDMI device information after each change.
If flicker is the problem
Sony lists Video Transfer Rate settings -1 and -2 as troubleshooting limits for flicker. They can restrict supported output formats, including 4K/120 Hz. Try them only to test whether the signal stabilizes; return to Automatic if the limitation removes the mode you want.
If VRR or ALLM seems unavailable
Check support for the exact TV model and input rather than relying on HDMI 2.1 labeling. VRR behavior also varies by TV. When VRR output is active, the TV may switch to low latency even if the PS5’s ALLM setting reads Off; Sony says VRR must also be Off to fully disable this ALLM behavior.

What to check before buying a TV for PS5 Pro
Compare the exact model and port against the features you will use, rather than treating one HDMI label or picture preset as proof of compatibility.
- For high-frame-rate 4K gaming, verify 4K at 120 Hz on the specific input you plan to use.
- Check HDR, VRR and ALLM support individually; HDMI 2.1 alone does not establish all three.
- Look for any required enhanced HDMI format or gaming setting in the TV manual.
- For an 8K setup, confirm 8K at 60 Hz and DSC support, and account for VRR being disabled during 8K output.
