There is no universal best V Rising host. Choose the service that matches your platform first, then your PvE/PvP rules, peak player count, region, administration needs, backup policy and budget. For a managed server, PocketHost is the clearest starting point in Stunlock Studios’ documentation; Stunlock’s December 1, 2025 PlayStation 5 FAQ also names G-Portal for private PS5 hosting. Those statements establish documented options, not a permanent performance ranking, so verify the current product page before paying.
PC groups can also run the official V Rising Dedicated Server application themselves. Self-hosting avoids a recurring rental bill but transfers responsibility for Windows, networking, updates, configuration, saves and recovery to the owner.

A suitable host is the one that can deliver your exact combination of platform, rules and operating expectations. A ten-player PvE world with occasional evening sessions has different needs from a public PvP community running raids every night. Slot count alone cannot tell you whether a plan will remain responsive during peak activity.
- Platform: PC and PlayStation 5 support are separate purchasing questions. Do not assume that a PC plan supports PS5, or that either supports cross-play.
- Ruleset: Decide PvE or PvP, raid rules, clan limits, rates, castle-decay behavior, access controls and wipe cadence before comparing plans.
- Capacity: Match concurrent slots and disclosed CPU or resource allocation to your expected peak, not merely your average headcount.
- Administration: Check for configuration-file access, logs, restart and update controls, admin permissions and the ability to delegate those permissions.
- Data protection: Evaluate backup frequency, retention, downloads and restoration separately from seasonal wipes.
- Location and cost: Choose a region near most players and calculate the complete billing period, renewal price and add-ons.
- Version and mods: Confirm how updates are handled and whether the current client/server version supports the mods you need.
These criteria matter in that order because a cheap server on the wrong platform or with an unsuitable ruleset cannot be fixed by adding slots.

Platform compatibility: PC, PS5 and cross-play
PC
PC players can rent a managed service or run the official dedicated-server application. A rental generally removes operating-system and network administration from the group, while self-hosting provides direct control over files and processes. Either route still requires the owner to understand server settings, saves and update timing.
PlayStation 5
Stunlock’s PlayStation 5 FAQ, dated December 1, 2025, names PocketHost and G-Portal as providers supporting private PS5 hosting at the time of publication. Treat that as a dated official statement. Provider support, available regions and plan catalogs can change, so check the provider’s current PS5 product page and the exact connection method before ordering.
Cross-play
The cited FAQ does not establish mixed-platform cross-play. A listing that says “console” or “PlayStation” is not evidence that PC and PS5 players can share one world. Ask the provider specifically whether your PC/PS5 combination is supported on the current V Rising version, and obtain the answer in writing if the group depends on it.
Define the world before choosing a plan
PvE or PvP
PvE groups usually prioritize reliable access, progression rates and a low-maintenance backup routine. PvP communities additionally need clear raid windows, clan limits, castle rules, moderation procedures and a predictable wipe policy. A host can expose settings, but it cannot make a ruleset coherent; write the rule set first and map each requirement to a setting the service actually exposes.
Private group or public community
A password-protected friends’ server can use a smaller slot tier if its peak is known. A public community needs headroom for simultaneous joins, administrators who can respond to disputes, logs for investigating incidents and a communication plan for restarts or wipes. Plan for the busiest realistic session rather than the number of people who say they might play.
Wipes and seasonal resets
Stunlock explains that an official reset removes land held by inactive users to provide a fresh experience. It also states that a reset deletes vampires, castles and other server data. That is a deliberate season mechanism, not a backup. Decide whether your group wants a scheduled wipe, no wipe, or a manual reset only after a preserved archive has been downloaded.

Compare advertised concurrent capacity with disclosed CPU or resource allocation and expected peak activity. A slot number describes how many connections a plan permits; it does not constitute a benchmark of simulation performance, save speed or latency. No controlled cross-provider performance test is established for the offers discussed here.

Administration and configuration controls
Stunlock’s PocketHost description is unusually specific: its management workflow covers status viewing, basic settings, logs, configuration files, restarting and updating the server, and granting permissions to other users. Those controls are valuable when the owner is not available every evening. For any other provider, confirm each item independently instead of inferring parity from a similar-looking control panel.
- Settings files: Can you edit the complete game settings or only a small form?
- Administrative access: Can trusted moderators receive limited permissions without sharing the billing account?
- Logs: Can you retrieve logs after a crash, moderation incident or failed update?
- Restart and update controls: Is there a scheduled-maintenance option, and is the save flushed before shutdown?
- File access: Can you download saves and configuration files for independent archiving?
A control panel is only useful if its actions are documented. Before inviting players, perform a test restart, download a save, change one harmless setting and restore the original configuration.

Backups, restores and wipes are different controls
Ask six separate questions: how often backups run, how long they are retained, whether you can download them, where they are stored, how restoration is initiated and whether a restore overwrites the current world. A provider may advertise “backups” without specifying any of those details.

A wipe that deletes vampires, castles and other server data cannot be undone merely because a provider offers routine snapshots; a usable recovery requires a retained snapshot and a tested restore path.

Look beyond the introductory price: compare taxes where applicable, monthly versus longer commitments, renewal pricing, extra backup charges, additional slots, cancellation timing and whether a plan change keeps the existing world.
Provider-by-provider assessment
PocketHost
PocketHost has the strongest official documentation connection in this comparison. Stunlock’s November 27, 2024 “How to Host a Server” guide explains renting and managing a server there, and the December 1, 2025 PS5 FAQ names it for private PS5 hosting. It is therefore a sensible first quote for players who want a managed service and for PS5 owners checking the officially named options.
That endorsement does not prove that every PocketHost plan has the same region, slot count, backup retention or mod support. Confirm those details for the exact product and current game version.
G-Portal
Stunlock’s December 1, 2025 PS5 FAQ also names G-Portal for private PS5 hosting. If your group is on PS5, verify that the current plan still supports the platform and that its region, configuration access, backup process and billing terms suit the group. The official FAQ does not establish cross-play or a performance ranking.
NitroServ and Minestrator
The August 27, 2026 comparison lists NitroServ from €12.99 per month for 10 players and Minestrator from €13.99 per month for 8 players, along with larger-tier and platform claims. The page discloses affiliate links and directs readers to verify offers with the providers. Treat its relative-value language as that publisher’s recommendation, not independent testing.
Supercraft
Supercraft’s page, reviewed September 2, 2026, presents 8-, 16- and 32-slot tiers, CPU-priority levels, settings access, backups, DDoS protection and four regions. Those statements describe the operator’s displayed offer. They do not establish uptime, latency, support quality or a performance winner. Confirm what “backup” means, how CPU priority is allocated and whether the chosen tier supports your platform and version.

Mods and version management
Community BepInEx mods are version-sensitive. A mod that worked on one client and server build may fail after an update, prevent startup or leave players on incompatible versions. Ask the host whether you can install and remove the required files, whether the panel supports a rollback, and who is responsible when a game update invalidates a mod.
Keep a written inventory of the server build, mod versions, configuration files and load order. Schedule updates when players are offline, make a backup first and test on a copy if the host permits it. Never assume that a plan’s generic “mod support” applies equally to every V Rising release.
Self-hosting with the official dedicated-server application
Stunlock’s official guide describes the V Rising Dedicated Server application in Steam’s Tools section. Selecting the library entry opens detailed GitHub instructions rather than starting the server directly; the executable must be launched from its installation directory. A newly launched server uses default game settings, and players can connect by server name or external IP. Stunlock also warns that a recently launched server may take a few minutes to appear in the server list.
Self-hosting is appropriate when one technically confident person can maintain the machine and network. It is not a zero-cost, zero-maintenance option: you must keep the process running, protect saves, apply updates, configure access and troubleshoot connectivity.
Practical self-hosting sequence
- Install Steam and open the Tools section of the Steam library.
- Install V Rising Dedicated Server. Use the detailed GitHub instructions opened from that library entry for the current executable and configuration procedure.
- Start the server executable from its installation directory, not by pressing Play on the Steam library page.
- Start once with defaults, then stop it cleanly before editing configuration files.
- Set the server name, password, rules, rates, clan limits and wipe-related settings in the appropriate configuration files.
- Configure the operating-system firewall and router according to the current official instructions. A community-maintained V Rising Wiki lists game UDP port 9876 and Steam query UDP port 9877, with TCP noted for RCON on the game port; verify these values against Stunlock’s current GitHub instructions before opening ports.
- Launch the server, wait several minutes for listing propagation, then test a local and external connection.
- Copy saves and settings to a separate backup location before every update or ruleset change.
Community documentation also advises preserving settings outside example files that updates may overwrite. Treat that as secondary guidance and recheck the official instructions whenever the server version changes.

Troubleshooting common failures
The server is not visible
Wait several minutes after launch, as Stunlock notes that a recently started server may take time to appear. Confirm the process is running, the name and password are correct, and the required firewall or provider network settings are active. Test direct connection by external IP when the host supports it.
Players cannot connect from another platform
Stop treating “PS5 hosting” as proof of cross-play. Reconfirm platform support and the exact PC/PS5 arrangement with the provider. If cross-play is not explicitly supported, the group may need a single-platform server.
Performance degrades at peak time
Record when the problem occurs and how many players, castles or combat events are active. Compare that peak with the plan’s resource allocation, not just its slot limit. Reduce unnecessary simultaneous activity only as a diagnostic; upgrade or move regions after confirming the bottleneck.
An update breaks a modded world
Stop the server, preserve the current save and configuration, and check that every client and server mod matches the new game version. Restore the last known-good files only after making a separate copy of the broken state.

A wipe was mistaken for a backup
Resets intentionally delete world data. Restore only from a dated snapshot that you know contains the desired world, and confirm the provider’s restore action before executing it.
Decision guide
Choose a managed host when
Your group wants a predictable control panel, does not want to maintain a Windows process and values delegated administration, provider-managed restarts and a documented rental workflow. Start by checking PocketHost, then compare any alternative against the same platform, rules, resource, backup and renewal criteria.
Choose self-hosting when
You have a reliable machine, a person willing to maintain it, control over router and firewall settings, and a disciplined backup and update routine. The saving is the absence of a hosting subscription, not the absence of operational work.
Delay purchase when
The platform or cross-play answer is unclear, the provider cannot explain restore behavior, the advertised slot count has no resource context, or the quoted introductory price omits renewal terms. Those uncertainties affect whether the server can serve your group at all.

For a managed V Rising server in 2026, use Stunlock’s documented options as your shortlist rather than treating “best” as a universal award: PocketHost is the clearest official rental starting point, and Stunlock’s December 1, 2025 FAQ names G-Portal alongside it for private PS5 hosting.
