For a 24/7 pre-recorded YouTube channel, choose based on where playback runs and how much automation you need. 2. OBS Studio: local looping and control
OBS is a plausible alternative when you are comfortable running the stream from your own computer. Its official documentation describes two relevant playback choices: Media Source for an individual local file, and VLC Video for a playlist. Media Source can loop its file when looping is enabled; VLC Video has Loop Playlist enabled by default. These playback controls establish that OBS can repeat media, not that a system will run unattended indefinitely.
With OBS, the computer runs the media and encoding while your connection carries the outgoing stream. If the machine sleeps, restarts, loses power, or loses internet, playback or streaming can stop. A playlist that repeats is also not the same as a scheduler that builds a time-of-day program grid. Consult the OBS Media Sources documentation for the source controls; exact settings depend on how your scenes and files are arranged.

3. vMix: retain it when the channel is a production
vMix is not necessarily the wrong tool if the channel combines prerecorded loops with active production. Its product overview describes a Windows PC/laptop environment with video inputs, titles, guests, recording, and streaming; its streaming page covers sending streams to YouTube and other providers, including RTMP-compatible destinations. Those capabilities may matter for a hybrid channel, but they can be more than a simple unattended loop requires (vMix product overview; vMix streaming support).
The important distinction is scheduling. In its support article, vMix states: “vMix is primarily designed for live streaming single events and as such does not support time of day scheduling.” The same article describes PlayList and List for basic continuous playback, including back-to-back looping. In other words, a repeated playlist is possible; an automated broadcast schedule is not provided by that feature (vMix scheduling support).

4. Other cloud services: verify the exact 24/7 feature
YouTube Help lists a cloud-based service category for 24/7 live streaming of prerecorded videos. OneStream Live’s official material describes scheduling and multistreaming prerecorded and real-time video, which makes it a candidate to investigate. That description alone does not establish a current 24/7 YouTube loop feature, current pricing, recovery behavior, or plan limits. Confirm those details in the provider’s current product documentation before choosing a service. YouTube’s category listing likewise is not proof of any provider’s service-level guarantee.

- Choose hosted streaming if you do not want a local computer to run playback and encoding. Check the provider’s supported destinations, file and storage limits, looping behavior, recovery process, support, and billing before committing.
- Choose OBS if you want local control and can keep the computer, software, and internet connection operating. Allow for the cost of hardware, power, and connectivity; no specific computer model or minimum specification is established here.
- Keep vMix in consideration if you need its live-production controls and only need simple repeat playback. Do not assume that a looping playlist means you can schedule a day’s programming by time.
- For a program grid, verify that the chosen product explicitly supports time-of-day scheduling. The sources cited here establish vMix’s limitation, but do not establish scheduling in every alternative.
Keep a 24/7 prerecorded stream compliant and operational
A working loop is only one part of a dependable channel. Before going live, use content you have the rights to stream and review YouTube’s current rules for live streaming and reused content. A stream key lets an encoder connect to your channel; it does not grant rights to the video or guarantee that YouTube will keep a stream online. Protect the key as a credential, and follow YouTube’s setup guidance for the account and stream (YouTube: Create a live stream with an encoder).

For either a local encoder or a hosted provider, confirm what happens when a file ends, the connection drops, or the stream is interrupted. Check the provider’s or software’s actual controls rather than inferring recovery from the existence of looping. The official sources cited here do not establish independent continuous-operation test results or service-level uptime guarantees for the named alternatives.
