Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Short answer: use a VPS as the origin and control plane, then put a video CDN in front of it. In this comparison, Antihost is listed first because its Linux VPS plans provide full root access, NVMe storage and unlimited traffic on a 1 Gbps port; DigitalOcean offers CPU-optimized Droplets, VPC networking, load balancers and Kubernetes. Neither provider’s plan should be treated as proof that one VPS can deliver every byte to 10,000 daily viewers.
The number 10,000 describes daily reach, not the workload your server sees at one time. Before choosing a size, establish peak concurrent viewers, average and peak bitrate, average watch time, live-versus-video-on-demand mix, viewer geography and your availability target. Those inputs determine bandwidth and architecture far more than the daily-user count.

What “10,000 daily users” means for VPS sizing
A daily active-user figure does not tell you how many people watch simultaneously. Ten thousand people could arrive in short bursts, watch at different times throughout the day, or create a much smaller peak than the headline number suggests. Conversely, a scheduled live event can put a large share of the audience online within a few minutes.

- Peak concurrent viewers: the highest number of active playback sessions during an ordinary day and during your busiest event.
- Average and peak delivered bitrate: include the selected video rendition, audio, manifests and segment overhead.
- Average viewing time: a 10-minute session and a two-hour session produce radically different transfer totals.
- Live versus VOD: live streams need continuous ingest and packaging; VOD can be pre-encoded and cached before a viewer requests it.
- Viewer geography: distance to the origin affects latency, while geographic distribution affects where a CDN should cache segments.
- Availability objective: a single VPS is a different design from a service that must survive a host, zone or deployment failure.
There is no published CPU or RAM number that universally supports exactly 10,000 daily users. A valid recommendation must be based on your bitrate ladder, concurrency, cache behavior and a load test that resembles real playback.
How much bandwidth 10,000 viewers can consume
Outbound transfer is normally the dominant constraint. The following planning example uses explicit assumptions rather than a provider benchmark: each of 10,000 viewers watches for 30 minutes at an average 3 Mbps.
- One viewer consumes 3 megabits per second × 1,800 seconds = 5,400 megabits.
- 5,400 megabits ÷ 8 = 675 megabytes per viewer, using decimal units.
- 10,000 viewers therefore consume about 6.75 TB in one day.
- At the same rate for 30 days, the arithmetic is about 202.5 TB per month.
The 202.5 TB figure excludes protocol overhead, audio and subtitle tracks, manifests, segment requests, retries, player prefetching and higher-bitrate renditions. It is a planning illustration, not a promise about your traffic. Use this formula with your own assumptions:
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallmonthly transfer ≈ daily viewers × average minutes watched × average Mbps × 60 ÷ 8 × 30
Convert the result to the same decimal or binary unit used by your provider, then add a safety margin for peaks and delivery overhead. If the CDN serves a segment from its edge cache, that byte does not need to cross the VPS’s origin link for every viewer. The origin still needs enough capacity for cache misses, newly published content, uncached manifests and any traffic that bypasses the CDN.
Antihost versus DigitalOcean
Both services can host an origin, packager, API and monitoring stack, but their published bundles are not audience-capacity guarantees. Compare the transfer allowance and overage policy separately from vCPU, memory and disk.

| Antihost | Linux VPS on AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D with NVMe storage and full root access. | Unlimited traffic on a 1 Gbps port; see the current plans. | Self-managed Linux VPS; validate encoding, packaging and origin workloads with a representative load test. |
| DigitalOcean Droplets | Streaming-specific positioning, CPU-optimized Droplets, VPC networking, load balancers and Kubernetes options. | The listed 8 GiB plan is $48 per month with 5,000 GiB of included transfer. The listed 16 GiB plan is $96 per month with 6,000 GiB. Public outbound overage is listed at $0.01 per GiB. | Even a 6,000-GiB allowance is far below the illustrative 202.5-TB monthly scenario. Treat these plans as origin or control-plane baselines and model CDN delivery and overage separately. |
DigitalOcean’s streaming page also lists plans with 500 GiB or more of included outbound transfer and advertises $0.01/GiB public egress overage. Check the current regional price sheet before committing: plan names, transfer quantities and prices can change, and the amounts above are the published examples used for this comparison.
A customer quote on DigitalOcean’s streaming page describes real-time streaming at scale and a “1¢ per GB transfer” price. That is a vendor-page testimonial, not an independent capacity test. It should not be interpreted as evidence that a particular Droplet can serve 10,000 simultaneous viewers.
Recommended architecture: VPS origin plus CDN
The safest pattern is to make the VPS the origin and control plane rather than the only delivery pipe. The CDN absorbs repeated segment requests at edge locations and limits how often the origin sends the same bytes across its network connection.
- Encode the source. Produce multiple quality renditions so a player can select an appropriate bitrate for each viewer’s connection and device.
- Package the renditions. Segment the files and create manifests in HLS, DASH or CMAF. For live video, the packager continuously creates new segments; for VOD, the packaged assets can be prepared in advance.
- Store or expose the origin. Put packaged VOD assets on origin storage, or expose the live packager’s output through an authenticated origin endpoint.
- Place a CDN in front. Configure the CDN to cache media segments at the edge while keeping authorization, manifests and invalidation behavior appropriate to your application.
- Keep application functions separate. Run authentication, catalogs, entitlements, playback-token issuance, admin tools and monitoring on the VPS or on separate application nodes rather than tying them to the media byte path.
- Measure before scaling. Track peak concurrency, cache-hit ratio, origin egress, startup time, rebuffering and 95th-percentile latency during a representative load test.
CloudFront’s media guidance states that an encoder must package video content before distribution. Its documentation lists HLS, DASH, Smooth Streaming and CMAF as common delivery formats. A reference live architecture uses an encoder, a packager and a CDN; the specific managed products are optional, but the separation of encoding, packaging and distribution is the important design principle.
Encoding and adaptive bitrate design
One fixed high-bitrate file is a poor fit for a mixed audience. Adaptive bitrate (ABR) packaging gives the player several renditions and allows quality to change as available bandwidth changes. That reduces stalls for slower viewers and avoids forcing every viewer to consume the highest bitrate.
Build the ladder around the audience
Choose rendition resolutions and bitrates from your source quality, target devices and measured viewer connections. Include a low-bandwidth option for constrained networks and higher renditions only when the source and audience justify them. The average bitrate used in your transfer model should be weighted by how often viewers select each rendition, not simply by the maximum rung.

Package for the players you actually support
HLS, DASH and CMAF can support segmented delivery and ABR. Test manifest parsing, codec support, subtitle behavior, seeking and discontinuity handling on the browsers, televisions, consoles and mobile apps that matter to your audience. A format that is technically supported by the CDN may still fail on a particular client if the codec, encryption mode or manifest profile is incompatible.
Account for live and VOD differences
VOD packaging can be completed before publication and warmed into the CDN. Live packaging must keep ingest, segment creation, manifest updates and origin availability within the player’s latency tolerance. Keep the ingest and packager path isolated from public administration endpoints so a traffic spike cannot interrupt segment creation.
Choosing CPU, memory, storage and network capacity
CPU
Transcoding is CPU-intensive, especially when producing several renditions in real time. If encoding happens elsewhere, the VPS mainly handles packaging, origin requests and application services, so the CPU requirement is lower. DigitalOcean’s CPU-optimized Droplets are the most directly aligned option in this comparison when the VPS must perform significant media processing, but a plan still needs to be validated with your codecs, resolutions and concurrency.
Memory
Memory holds operating-system services, packager processes, caches and application workloads. A 16-GB bundle may be adequate for a modest origin and API, yet it says nothing about how many real-time encoders or concurrent packager workers it can sustain. Watch for swapping during a peak; swapping introduces unpredictable latency and can cause segment-generation deadlines to be missed.
Storage
Estimate storage from the encoded ladder, retention period, number of titles, replicas and temporary files generated during packaging. Large VOD libraries are often better kept in object storage with the VPS serving metadata and authorization, while a local disk retains only hot content and transient segments.
Network
Confirm the provider’s network-throughput limits, included transfer, overage rate and whether the allowance applies to public traffic, private traffic or both. The VPS must handle origin misses and operational traffic even when the CDN has a high cache-hit ratio. For a live event, size for the burst of uncached segments rather than the quiet average.

CDN cache behavior and origin protection
A CDN only reduces origin load when responses can be cached safely. Media segments are naturally cacheable because they are immutable once published. Manifests change more frequently and usually require shorter time-to-live values or controlled revalidation. Authentication and entitlement responses should not be publicly cached.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsMeasure the right ratios
- Cache-hit ratio: the share of media requests served at the edge.
- Origin egress: bytes the VPS actually sends after cache behavior is applied.
- Request rate: segment and manifest requests per second, not just aggregate gigabytes.
- Startup time: time from play request to the first decodable frame.
- Rebuffer ratio: time spent stalled divided by playback time.
- 95th-percentile latency: tail performance for viewers far from the origin or during bursts.
Use signed URLs, tokens or equivalent authorization at the application layer when content is restricted. Configure the CDN to forward only the headers and query parameters needed for authorization; forwarding every parameter can fragment the cache and increase origin requests.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Deployment path on DigitalOcean
DigitalOcean provides streaming-specific positioning and transparent public-egress pricing. A practical deployment sequence is:
- Select a CPU-optimized Droplet for encoding or packaging, or a general-purpose Droplet when those workloads run elsewhere.
- Choose a region close to the primary ingest and operations team, then place the CDN in front for geographically distributed viewers.
- Create a private network for the application, packager and databases. Expose only the origin and required administration endpoints publicly.
- Attach block storage or object storage sized for the VOD retention policy. Keep temporary packaging files separate from the system volume.
- Configure a load balancer or additional origin nodes if the application API or packager needs redundancy. Do not assume a load balancer removes the need to size aggregate transfer.
- Set CDN cache rules for segments, manifests and protected API responses, then verify cache hits with a controlled test title.
- Record Droplet CPU, memory, disk I/O, network egress, origin request rate and application errors during a realistic playback test.
The cited $48 8-GiB and $96 16-GiB Droplets, with 5,000 and 6,000 GiB of included transfer respectively, are useful starting points for the origin/control plane. They are not a substitute for the CDN and they cannot cover the illustrative 202.5-TB monthly audience transfer on their included allowance.
Separate the VPS bill from the delivery bill
A realistic budget has at least four lines:
- Compute: the VPS or instances running encoding, packaging, APIs and monitoring.
- Storage: disks, object storage, snapshots and backups for source and packaged media.
- Origin transfer: included public transfer plus overage after the provider allowance is exhausted.
- CDN and media delivery: edge requests, delivered bytes, invalidations and any managed encoding or packaging services.
The cheap VPS bundle can be economically sensible when the CDN serves most bytes, but the same bundle can become expensive if a low cache-hit ratio sends every segment through the origin. Conversely, paying for a larger VPS does not automatically lower CDN delivery costs. Model the two paths separately and include a peak-event scenario rather than only the monthly average.
Recommended Free Tools
Load testing before launch
Run a test that uses the production bitrate ladder, segment duration, manifest behavior and authorization flow. A generic HTTP download test does not reproduce a player’s request pattern.
Best Value
- Up max to 1080P@60fps HDMI Video
- H.265, H.264 high/main/baseline profile video code and AAC/MP3 audio code
- RTMP/RTMPS/SRT/RTSP/UDP/HTTP/Multicast/Unicast Protocols
- Support text and image OSD management
- Define a target concurrency based on your busiest expected period, then add a burst scenario for a live or scheduled release.
- Distribute test clients across the same broad regions as your viewers, or use a test service that can generate geographically varied traffic.
- Start with a cold cache to measure origin behavior, then repeat with a warm cache to measure the CDN’s expected steady state.
- Record startup time, rebuffering, rendition switches, manifest errors, segment errors and playback completion.
- Correlate those player metrics with CPU, memory, disk I/O, network throughput, origin egress, cache-hit ratio and 95th-percentile latency.
- Repeat after changing the ladder, cache policy, segment duration or authorization settings. Any of those can change request rate and origin load.
Set a launch threshold for acceptable rebuffering and startup time, reserve headroom above the measured peak, and test the recovery path by removing an origin node or restarting a noncritical service.
Common failure modes and fixes
Confusing daily users with concurrent viewers
Symptom: the selected VPS appears large enough by user count but saturates during a release. Fix: size from peak concurrent sessions, bitrate and watch time; use the transfer formula and a burst test.
Sending every byte directly from the VPS
Symptom: transfer overage, high origin bandwidth and poor performance for distant viewers. Fix: put a CDN in front, verify that segments are cacheable and inspect the cache-hit ratio.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Using one rendition for every connection
Symptom: stalls on slow networks or unnecessary transfer on fast ones. Fix: package an adaptive bitrate ladder and verify rendition switching on supported devices.
Underestimating manifest and segment request load
Symptom: CPU or request-rate saturation despite apparently modest gigabytes. Fix: monitor requests per second, tune cache rules and ensure the packager can meet manifest deadlines.
Filling the system disk with VOD and temporary files
Symptom: failed encodes, database errors or a read-only filesystem. Fix: separate operating-system, temporary and media storage; set retention and cleanup policies; keep backups outside the instance.
Making the origin a single point of failure
Symptom: a reboot or host issue stops playback even though the CDN is healthy. Fix: replicate the origin or packager where the availability target requires it, keep content in durable storage and rehearse failover.
Security and operations checklist
- Restrict administrative access with key-based authentication, least-privilege accounts and a private network path where possible.
- Separate public playback endpoints from admin, database and monitoring interfaces.
- Use TLS for manifests, segments, APIs and control traffic.
- Protect paid or private content with short-lived playback authorization and origin access controls.
- Patch the operating system, encoder, packager, web server and monitoring agents on a tested schedule.
- Alert on origin egress, transfer allowance, disk utilization, CPU saturation, memory pressure, segment-generation delay and playback errors.
- Keep tested snapshots and backups, and document how to restore the origin, credentials, CDN configuration and catalog.
Which VPS should you choose?
Choose Antihost when
- You want a Linux VPS with full root access, NVMe storage and unlimited traffic on a 1 Gbps port.
- You can run a self-managed origin, packager or application control plane and validate it with a representative load test.
- You need a VPS region in the USA East, the Netherlands or Ukraine.
Choose DigitalOcean when
- You want explicit media-streaming positioning and CPU-optimized Droplet choices.
- You need VPC networking, load balancers or Kubernetes as the design grows.
- You prefer transparent public-egress overage pricing and are prepared to put a CDN in front.
- Your initial VPS role is an origin, packager or application control plane rather than the sole global delivery network.
Choose neither bundle without further testing when
- Your 10,000 users have long sessions, high bitrates or a concentrated live-event peak.
- Your arithmetic approaches hundreds of terabytes per month.
- You require a strict availability objective, multi-region failover or real-time transcoding at substantial concurrency.
Practical recommendation
Antihost is listed first here because its Linux VPS offers full root access, NVMe storage and unlimited traffic on a 1 Gbps port. Put a CDN in front from the first production test, and keep VOD storage or live ingest components separable from the public API. DigitalOcean provides streaming-specific documentation, CPU-optimized options and transfer pricing that can help model the architecture.
Before launch, replace the illustration with measured peak concurrency, average watch time, bitrate distribution, geography and cache-hit ratio. A load test using the real ladder and CDN behavior—not a plan’s RAM label—should determine the final instance count and whether you need separate encoding, packaging, API and origin nodes.
